OG Viking
Norton popped up a warning about a threat called "WS.Reputation.1", rated as "medium risk". I clicked the button to solve the problem, and got surprised: San Andreas which was paused and ran in the background, quit. The file Norton removed was gta_sa.exe.... I didn't see that at first, I just saw WS.Reputation.1 and thought that was something bad in my Internet cache. But it's the name of a classification. Norton have not found the game to be a security risk before, so the exe file must have gotten a bad reputation very recently. Girish
This is most likely to happen if you're using a cracked exe. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/760407-norton-detecting-gta_saexe-as-threat/?do=findComment&comment=1066793838 Share on other sites
OG Viking
Yes probably, but it can evidently happen on a legal disc version too. Edit I did a reinstall of the game, but it wanted to uninstall first and I did. And now the user files and all saved games are gone too?! Windows 8 system restore can't get it back? Edit 2 I let Norton scan again and it removed gta_sa.exe again, this time without asking. I'll have to whitelist it. sivispacem
Reputational AV ratings can safely be ignored most of the time. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/760407-norton-detecting-gta_saexe-as-threat/?do=findComment&comment=1066798210 Share on other sites
OG Viking
Yes it should be safe to ignore it. But what I don't understand is why the Norton community would vote this file as dangerous? It's not pirated, and even if it was pirated, pirates wouldn't flag it as bad. The DVD can't get infected, so when I had freshly installed the game I knew for sure that the file wasn't infected. I've uploaded it to Norton and reported it as a false positive. The first thing that happened when I started the game for the first time after reinstalling it, was that Norton "attacked" one of the vorbis dll files. I had to whitelist that one too. I'm not sure if it was one of the original files or a file from the Silent patch. I have everything in Norton set to "aggressive". But I've never had false positive before, and I've used Norton (with the most aggressive settings) for many years.
