Same mission, different glitches

Recommended Posts

I've got to the mission following either Roman or Kate's death. I've saved so I can follow either path, but I can't complete either mission.

If I chase Pegorino when I jump onto the copter pressing the space bar just makes the screen glitch, I never climb in and eventually fall off and fail the mission.

If I chase Dmitri I either hit the boat when I'm kicked off his copter and die from the impact or simply cannot catch up to his chopper as the boat is nowhere near fast enough.

Any ideas how to get past this, anyone?

Are you playing on PC?

The space bar bug has been a common thing since release.. I've heard of a few fixes but the main one was this -

During the chase, right before you hit the ramp to get on the Annihilator pause the game and alt+tab back to your desktop.

Open your task manager (CTRL + ALT + DELETE)

Click on the "Details" tab

Look for GTA IV, right click on it and click on "Set Affinity.."

Deselect all of the options (or click on the check next to <All Processors>) and then click on the check box on CPU 0 (Which means all of them should be empty EXCEPT for CPU 0)

Click ok and resume the game again (Alt+Tab back to GTA IV)

Now you should be able to hit the jump and spam the space bar and it should work.. once you're in the Annihilator go back to your desktop by Alt+Tabbing and this time enable all of the CPUs again (Just like you first saw it before making the changes)

Go back to the game and enjoy.

Others have tried installing and running FRAPS during the jump which causes their frames to drop to around 30, which usually is enough for the game to detect your spacebar spamming easier.

Good luck and hope that helped.

Grrr!

I had a look at my settings for the game and they were all horribly low with a warning about how I was near the limit my system could cope with and I should turn it down. What a joke as I'm waaay above spec for this game. None of the settings would change, though. Just beeped at me, flickered the screen a wee bit and did nothing. I tried running the benchmark test and now it's running the game in a tiny window and won't let me change anything!

How do I get this fixed? It won't alter any setting! :panic:

Open the folder in which you have installed GTA IV, with the help of notepad, make a file and name it commandline.txt and copy/paste the following into it.

-norestrictions -nomemrestrict

Save the file and launch the game.
