Technically London is the capital, Westminster is the seat of power.

Annoying pedantry perhaps, but Westminster itself has city status so...technically you were wrong within the first six words of your response.

I think most rational people will side based on the available evidence; you're the only person here whose entirely based his opinions and perception of facts on which nation he looks more favourably on.

I also note you've completely failed to address any of my points above.

Westminster's still where the capital is, Scotland's still in the UK, UK's leaving the EU, UK's making sounds of being closer to America.

Stop me when I'm wrong...

The Courts answer to the Crown, and thus the House Of Lords.  They outrank the Commons, and god forbid, Boris!  If the Courts answer in Scotland's favor there is feck all the Blond Boy Blunder can do about it, other than throw his toys out of the pram and huff about how London is superior....  Similar to how you're acting right now.

Yeah, but, you'd side with Iran over America and with the EU over UK, no wonder you'd side with anywhere in the UK over London.

I don't pick sides, I choose to look at the details available at that time, rather than jump to blind assumption.  London is a city, nothing more, just because some of it's residents choose to think they're superior to other citizens of the same nation, that's their choice not mine.  (The city of Westminster is the seat of office by the way, it even has it's own city police force, separate from the Met.)

Quote

It's just in your DNA to want; however, you don't have. America were right, not Iran, UK were right, not the EU, and London's right to have more investment because it's London and not Grimbsy, because London is the only world city in England.

London is one corner of a country, in the same way 11 US states are bigger than the UK as a whole.  Michigan is 1.03 times the size of the UK and everyone just assumes Detroit is the State Capitol, it's not, it's Lansing, a much smaller city to the South West.  Wyoming is the same 1.03 times bigger than the UK and I bet you can't even name the state capitol of that one!

Just because those cities exist as state capitols, doesn't mean they're superior to the rest of those states.  Lansing is clearly inferior to Detroit in terms of national power, but Detroit must answer to Lansing in state law.  In the same way, stopping at London and assuming it's better than everywhere else is a bad move (just ask Edinburgh).

------------

PS : Wyoming's state capitol is Cheyenne.

... London is a city, nothing more...

You're talking bull sh*t, how is 'London is a city, nothing more'? ...Bournemouth is a city, nothing more. Birmingham is a city, nothing more - London (for one thing) is your capital, and it's a world city etc; It's a hub for many, many, MANY things as well like fashion, entertainment, banking etc.. - it's also a great place to get Chinese food late at night.

London's like no other place in England I've been to. Sure, Birmingham may look like West Norwood, if West Norwood had no people out at 6 pm (which is never the case in West Norwood no matter that time of day).

Bournemouth too, the last time I went to Bournemouth, shops and everything were closed by 7 pm, and again, walking around in Bournemouth past closing time, and it's dead. In the summer, the sun doesn't set 'till almost 10 pm but even with the sun out, it's dead in these places.

No way is London like these English cities. London is more than a city, London is a world city.

Why would anyone want to make London just another place in England? (Unless they suffer from London envy)? London is a beating heart metropolitan nerve centre, and I honestly don't care if you agree with this or not, because I know when I come home to London late at night from somewhere in England, my shops are still open. Even in Thornton Heath I can walk in from the station and find places still open at like 1 am coming in off the last train if I wanted something to eat or drink or have my hair cut or buy something from an off license coming in off the last train.

You have to understand, I've done this from days out to cites all around England; left them around 6 or 7 pm, like leaving from a ghost town where everything shuts early; got back home around midnight or 1 am to business as usual, and a feeling of being glad I'm from here and get to come home to a place that's literally not as dull, not as dead and not as boring. Even my local off license at 1 am on my walk from the station to mine has more life than Bournemouth does at 7 pm.

How is a place more like NYC or Tokyo "just another city"?

Try know what you're talking about first, you forget yourself.

This is Soho at 1 am on a Saturday night.

I took this snapshot to show that even the litter in London looks fancy. (lol).

This is The Strand at sunrise, a snapshot I took just because I liked the sky and saw the sun coming up.

How are other towns and cities in England like this? - This is what it should be like imo, but the norm for London isn't the norm elsewhere in England, and rather than try and fight it, I just feel blessed being from London since I'm used to it.

Good ol' Baker Street.

To me, Baker Street is just where to go if you've lost something on the bus and you need to reclaim it, ya gotta go to Baker Street.

South London's like North London like East London like West London...

They're all pretty much the same; might get different ethnic make ups in different neighbourhoods, but, all in all, London's open for business all hours with night buses and trains too.

So is my local chinese takeaway and restaurant, nor does it involve a 480 mile round trip to eat there.

London is a place in the world, just like every other place in the world is.  Just because the customs, fashions and accents are different there, it's no better than any other location in the world.  It's still just one location on Google Maps or within an Atlas.

I don't suffer from London envy in the slightest, nor do I behave like my ego is so massive, I can fit London in my cap.

You do though, I can't work out why?

So what?  Extended hour stores are fecking everywhere now!  I can get takeaways until 5am as well, get a haircut at any time, go to a supermarket in the middle of the night.  London isn't special for any of that, you just need to know what is available at what time, which you do as those services are local to you.  As my services are local to me.

Try debating the EU with a fellow remainer, try debating how London shouldn't be so heavily invested into by someone from butt f' no where who agrees with your London jealousy.

Well, whatever, Tories are still in charge and we're heading for Brexit pushing closer to America so far not willing to budge on the tight deadline with the EU to sort out a deal. If we can't sort out a deal within the time given before the deadline; then it should be no deal; no extension to the transition period.

Only a moron would think Scotland are being forced to stay in the UK when they voted in 2014.

Only a moron would support the EU. (That's it, not else is required, the EU is bad news).

Only a moron would fix something that isn't broken citing London's vast population as a negative.

I think I saw it and laughed because it's a symbol of authoritarianism on this community.

I know I didn't green light it, so someone else must have.

No wonder you like the EU, you're backwards.

Seriously, you don't get how editing other people means you haven't got a leg to stand on when it comes to debate right. Your antics just further prove you belong in a sh*t hole like the EU.

You do this, you don't stand for freedom, you stand for oppression; you don't stand for freedom of posters, you stand for censorship of the truth.

As soon as you violated my freedom, you proved you belong in the EU.

So I see it, and it makes me laugh, since I didn't put it there.

Some Liberal Nazi like you did because you're a Nazi, and the EU is your Fourth Reich. And don't think I can't call you a Nazi, especially when you mock me and edit my settings, you f'n' Nazi.

It's all starting to make sense. Of course you wouldn't fret about maggots in your beverages or chlorine washed chicken for dinner if those type of ramshackle establishments in dire need of a visit from the Food Standards Agency are the kind of places you opt to eat at.

Well, after Brexit, we won't be getting chlorinated chicken.

So, IDK what scaremongering you're trying to do, but like all EU scaremongering, it's really b/s.

Also, what sort of person is all for regulations?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/lemonade-girl-five-150-stand-andre-spicer-tower-hamlets-lovebox-mile-end-festival-a7855911.html

Only an idiot (and there are many in the UK) would side with the local authority (I saw them on my FB when this story broke) over a five year old girl selling lemonade from a lemonade stand.

Why do you insist on regulations for regulation sake?

They shut down a 5 year old for not having a business license and fined her.

The health inspector closed down a Mexican restaurant and had words about a local KFC, but that's like 2 places; why do you think Jerk Chicken wouldn't be subject to the health inspector, unless you're implying because it's Jamaican food in Croydon, it's in dire need of the health inspector.

But it's starting to make sense that you're a racist since you take one look at a Jamaican place and your first thought is to assume it needs a health inspector.

You must be a fool to think I hadn't noticed, and an even bigger fool if you think I'm going to change it.

It's testament to your and the EU's backwards authoritarianism and it's funny when you think you can still debate after editing other people to suit your means.

Anything you have to say, means nothing. You lost the right to debate when you (or whoever it was) edited my profile without my permission.

How do you like that truth, you f'n' Nazi. Good riddance to the EU is all I can say; you've done a horrible job saying why EU's any good acting like a Nazi, a bully, and a thug. Why would I? It's a badge for me. I know I never put it there, so why should I take it away? You can remove it, since I suspect now it was you who put it there.

Someone like you?

Whatever Nazi. At least I don't play on tired old stereotypes like right wing = bad left wing = good; it's 2020 Nigga, right wing = freedom; left wing = authoritarianism; and until you let go of the EU or your right wing bashing, you're nothing but a red tape loving PC thug using political correctness as a tool to ridicule anything you don't agree with, because you're left wing in 2020.

You're just another intolerant liberal in 2020.

And you're an imperialistic reject, so lost in the days of the Raj and Empire, you're firmly in the belief we're entering the 1820's....

Jacob must be so proud of you that he's paying for his kids to attend stripping courses instead of Eton, while laughing his head off at the thought that there's individuals out there stupid enough to buy the bullcrap!

I assume the infamous image of him lounging on the front bench is your phone wallpaper, just there to get the semi on before the next performance, even then you apply plenty of sock stuffing, don't you?

Ironically, you're pining for EU rule with your EU flag you neo imperialist, and it is you who seems to be lost in the days of 2015 when UK was in the EU.

You're the empire loving f' wit stuck in the past Nigga.

Ah yes, because right-wing governments have such a good record at reinforcing individual rights and personal liberties, don't they?

Says the person who wishes we wasn't breaking away from the EU to a point where they'd display an EU flag. You don't want UK to be independent, you think being in a single market that blocks from the outside is good for the future.

Yeah, look at Thatcher, look at Johnson. If it wasn't for these people, we'd probably be using Euros right now with no freedom on the horizon.

If the EU wasn't blocking access to the single market for those outside the EU, then maybe they could be tolerable, but as it is, you can't have freedom of goods without freedom of movement.

The EU is blocking those from outside the EU apparently from having market access to a single market.

It's just one market, half the countries in this single market are poor so it's a source for cheap labour.

It's all starting to make sense. Of course you wouldn't fret about maggots in your beverages or chlorine washed chicken for dinner if those type of ramshackle establishments in dire need of a visit from the Food Standards Agency are the kind of places you opt to eat at.

That is still pretty racist though, assuming a Jamaican place in Croydon is in

"dire need of a visit from the Food Standards Agency..."

just by looking at a photo of it.

https://ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/990484/Jerk-Chicken-Cuisine-Ltd-Croydon

Maybe work on your racism there @Raavi, because I can't think of any reason for you to assume it's in need of "dire need of a visit from the Food Standards Agency..." other than your prejudice. When you use EU scaremongering, it also discredits you.

It has feck-all to do with what kind of cuisine they have. I would have said the same thing if it was your local chippy. Just look at this fecking street.

I mean that street looks like a sh*t hole desperately in need of a visit from the FSA, among others. But same could be said for all of Thornton Heath though, dire.

Because it's Black, right?

All you Liberals are the same, racist, intolerant, and prejudiced.

If you're not hating on a black neighbourhood, you're hating on a blue political party; if you're not hating on the British, you're hating on America, and @Pesos if you do move to America, don't you see that detention centre waiting for you if you make it through the jungle and across Mexico?

...Yes.

Is that supposed to be a rebuttal of some kind? Because, well, it isn't one.

Yeah, look at Thatcher, look at Johnson.

Johnson has so far accomplished literally nothing- unsurprising given his short tenure- and Thatcher hardly improved the rights and freedoms of British citizens.

No, because it's a sh*thole.

Croydon and Thornton Heath aren't even that ethnically diverse in the grand scheme of London.

In fact, Croydon is much less ethnically diverse that comparable suburban parts of "second cities" like Birmingham in reality.

Let's also gloss over that, despite only comprising 2.5% of the London metropolitan population, the Borough of Croydon accounts for 10% of all murders and 7% of all rapes in London, shall we?

You don't see how wanting to be a part of the EU and waving their (not our/not yours, come January 31st 2020, their) EU flag having unelected in Brussels rule you in the EU isn't like imperialism?

No, because it's a sh*thole.

I know, the UK's not paradise, but if things changed, maybe it could be; ridding us from EU is a start I guess since it wishes to erect a wall around itself. Look at the Irish border, the EU (not UK) want to put a hard border there if no deal is achieved; quite literally building a wall up around itself.

Thornton Heath's blacker than Brixton (down the road)... But even then it's pretty diverse, from Asians to Eastern Europeans as well as White British; Also, there's a Hindu community here and a Muslim one and a Catholic one.

We also have the Home Office in Croydon and I went to school with many including refugees from all over; even a friend of mine fled Somalia who I met in school growing up here, but to me, these were my friends despite them coming from;

Thailand, Turkey, Somalia, Sri Lanka and this other UK boy who was white and black and Jamaican who had a Chinese last name because his mother met a Chinese Jamaican guy, also he came out as Bi and came on to me when we were 18, and my Somalian friend we all thought was 'the Gay one' -

Looking back, I guess the misfits were my people, IDK, school can be cruel.

(These were just my school chums) - I've befriended and dated people from all over the world in my adult life.

Also, this is my local/side of Thornton Heath.

This is my part of Thornton Heath; I see them at the bottom of my road being bused in and bused out. I see people from this place when I go out shopping, I see them because that's where I am.

Birmingham's diverse, so is UK today, but you don't see me calling a black neighbourhood a sh*t hole because it's black.

Edit: Oh, you mean @Pesos, HEY!... Why did you feel the need to hate on America then?

You Liberals can't help yourselves. Hating is in your blood.

America is a wonderful country with a culture the world should be grateful to have.

Presumably you mean I don't see how it is like imperialism? No, I don't, because I understand the definition of imperialism, unlike you.

He can have that when it's on the statute books- IE when it's actually law. Seems a bit stupid to give people credit for legislation that's not even passed yet.

Sorta pales in comparison to massively rolling back worker's protection, though. Besides, I thought you were anti-EU? More British sovereignty was delegated to Brussels under Thatcher's tenure than that of any other British prime minister.

Speak for yourself, where I live is positively delightful. Then again, our violent crime rate is 1/20th of that of yours so...

Firstly, it's not really "down the road"; it's further away (over 5 miles) from Thornton Heath than, say, Sutton, and about as far as Lewisham.

Doesn't really say much either way, though, given that Brixton has massively gentrified in the last 10 years. In fact places like Thornton Heath have borne the brunt of the associated dispersal given the cost of living is so much lower.

It's not a sh*thole because of its demographics, it's a sh*thole because its a socially deprived sink with amongst the worst violent crime rates the the county.
