Is it worth getting a next gen console?

Recommended Posts

If you have other games to play or if you think ps4/x1 seems to have the games you like in the future, then it's wise to buy.

If you think you just buy it for gtav, then I personally think it's not a wise spend. Being wise is not because you're poor or rich.

Agree, no one is going to buy a new console simply just to play one game.

This is what I've been thinking lately, I had always planned on getting it in the January sales but now I just don't know as far cry 4 is the only other I would play.

Might just buy a few cheap games that I missed on ps3 and wait till summer.

I can't answer that question since my PS4 is currently in the mail (couldn't resist the temptation of NG GTA)! The new Snapmatic abilities was a big influence, since the snaps are now higher resolution and you can change the depth of field.

But to go off on a tangent, does anyone know the answer to my question re switching over to NG:

Before you can access Online you are promoted to update; do you only have to download the latest 1.22 update OR ALL patches you missed since NG launched (1.19-1.22)?

I'm saving for next gen for GTA and Dying Light (so disappointed it was cancelled for last gen). Mainly for GTA though as it's my go-to game when I want to relax and can't be arsed with other games because I'm slowly turning into a casual gamer.

Also I have never smelled new console smell because paid peanuts and crap :(

BUT THE BENZ

The console?

Yes

Just for this game?

No

This.

Buying next gen for a port just sounds silly

---------------(edit: the quote didn't work visually, wtf)--------------

GTA V on PS4 is the actual game R* had envisioned, it would be more accurate to call GTA V on PS3 a port, a downgrade portation to old consoles in order to make multi bazzingah millions of dollars, instead of just a fistful of millions they grab with the PS4 "remastered version". Just because one version released earlier than the other doesn't mean the first to see the day of light actually is the alpha version. namsayin? #truth

OT: Trade in your old console and get a new one. The future will bring us some really awesome and intense games. GTA remastered was just the beginning. Wait for the next Red Dead title, oh god it will be sooo worth it to own a "next gen" console by then....holy moly dat anticipation # truth

I have shi*load of PS3 games that I haven't finished yet, but it's difficult to go back as others mentioned!

GTA V in PS4 is just amazing! Not to mention Unity :D

However, most developers haven't used the full power of the new hardware yet. So if you are short in cash I suggest that you wait a year or so. PS4 prices would come down (it's already reasonable now) , plus many excellent games will be available!

I bought a lightly used PS4 off a guy needing to make rent money for $175, two controllers and 3 games. Traded two of the 3 games in and rebought GTA 5 (still $60... Ugh, but I support Rockstar cuz I love GTA)

Only game I'm likely to ever play is GTA Online. Was it worth it? Damn right!

PC is going to be a hack/modfest - I wouldn't bother with that.

If a PS4/Xbone is worth it or not is pretty subjective, if you are down to your last few hundred bucks and need to make rent next week, no!

If you have the money and have seen a few other next-gen games you'd like, then sure its worth it.

Yeah I got a PS4 for Christmas. I would at this point say its worth it. There are a few free games on the store that aren't with plus. I've got like 2 or 3 of them keeping my time as well as the last of us, drive club and the free plus games; no GTA though, I'll get that on Xbox One.

It's not just the games, its the experience, which is undeniably better on PS4 when compared to PS360, its much faster, the UI is much cleaner and easier to read and access, the apps work much better on the system along with, trophies, typing on the on-screen keyboard (using sixaxis/touchpad is actually much quicker), the internet browser with flash support, friends list's and parties as well as notifications and many other various random things. Also Remote play, which has allowed me to continue to use my DualShock 3 (PS3 controller) on the PS4 with pretty much full support - so I don't have to go and buy a new DualShock 4 for £40-£50.

Theres all this and I haven't even tried shareplay, the PS camera or the main sharing features of the share button.

I can't speak for the Xbox One yet as I don't have it, but I haven't seen my friend come off it since Christmas. So I would say it would be a great time to get a new-gen console, however if you pay more than £300 in the UK you'll be ripped off considering the Black Friday till Christmas rush.

I gotta be honest, i was one of the "hell no i'm not going next gen" people because of money issues but i found a way to get an xbox one relatively cheap by trading in a ps3 i was mainly using for blu rays which the one also does. I'm loving it. Not just for GTA V but for the fact i can record movies and share them, as well as games like forza horizon 2 and the crew.

I will say there are things I miss about xbox 360 (still have it but not the gta v disc) that Microsoft needs to incorporate into the xbox one. First and foremost, let me play my own music from my PC through the one like i could on 360. Secondly, bring back the ability to send voice messages to other xbox one players. Why the hell do i have to send a text message when my 6 year old xbox 360 lets me use my mic to send a voice message.

For single player gaming, no way the improvements in graphics are minimal............

For media streaming and online gaming, hell yes

But remember, now your not buying a console, your buying a network, choose wisely grasshopper.................
