trip
I think 'murdered' in the subject title is a bit over the top. She died in an accident and I don't think the boy intended to murder her. I'm too lazy to look up the numbers but aren't there studies that support the idea that guns bought for self protection end up accidently killing a family member or friend more than they are used for the intended purpose of self protection? Just yesterday I read an interesting tidbit. Just like everything - things change - markets change. People didn't/don't need to hunt like they used to. Other recreational activities started to show up and sport shooting became less popular than it once was. In the 70's the US gun industry was hurting financially so they started the whole "personal protection" campaign. They needed to get those gun sales back up so they can continue to enjoy the money they were used to. Does a two year old know how to disable the safety? Is a two year old even strong enough to disable the safety? If that mother had a loaded gun with the safety off in her purse as she shoped in Wallmart then I'm going to be an insensitive dick and say "well...then she deserved to die". It is mighty sad what happened, very sad that this boy won't have his mom. Althouh, I'm a bit thankful now that he won't grow up being taught the wrong way (and purpose) to handle, carry, possess a gun. universetwisters and Jonesizzle 2 My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens

We should eliminate free speech, peaceful assembly, and reinstitute slavery as well, because you know, they're written "on a hundreds of years old piece of paper..." Ever hear of amendments? That piece of paper has been updated numerous times. No legal system is perfect, especially in the US, but this "old piece of paper" argument is completely devoid of rational thought. f*ck the Magna Carta too, amirite? And no, you can't stop stupid people from owning guns or anytihng else for that matter, ever hear of the black market? It irritates me when people attempt to provide "witty" political commentary on matters they don't even have a rudimentary grasp on. I cucked Alex Jones
When the second amendment was written the US had no army and a well regulated militia was the only obstacle that would keep a foreign power from invading. Not saying we should ban all firearms, but the US needs a radical shift in gun control and how we view them. DuckEarly

El Dildo
OP needs to change the title of this topic. do you have any idea what the word "murder" means?? this is not a f/cking murder. this is an accident. also, this stupid bitch WAS COMPLETELY responsible for her own death. if you're carrying around little children in your shopping cart right next to where you set your purse, DON'T LEAVE YOUR LOADED FIREARM IN YOUR PURSE sitting next to your goddamn tampons like it's just a keychain. responsible gun owners SECURE THEIR FIREARMS at all times but especially around children. no one to blame but her dead self. happy new years.... So...in that scenario: She should shoot and kill another human being to protect the [replaceable] contents of her purse? She shouldn't just let the criminal take her bag and let the police work with video and eye witness accounts to see that justice is done? I have sympathy for everyone involved.... but I do wonder how much flaming and hatred the mother would be getting if he had shot and killed another shopper instead of her. Or shot himself. Same here although my girls are 6 & 10 i still drill them that they should never touch them, I also keep the guns in my room and my room is always locked better safe than sorry. My oldest knows how to use a weapon if the need arises which i hope it never does. I always carry my sidearm on my hip in a secured holster and the safety on when i am home i don't keep a round in the pipe but when i go out i do slide one in before leaving. This is ridiculous. There's a reason for the safety on the gun. Her fault, nothing more. Must have been a strong 2 year old. Squeezing the trigger isn't that easy. Actually some guns only require about 2 pounds of pressure to pull a trigger and a 2 year old is more than capable of doing that. Not saying we should ban all firearms, but the US needs a radical shift in gun control and how we view them. Don't forget that the second amendment was written in the time of muskets and flintlock pistols. So? The purpouse of it was to give the people power, to allow them to form their own millitia and use it in the event that the current government becomes corrupt and needs to be overthrown. Fat chance that will happen tho, as revolutionaries will be branded terrorists and will be squashed. Plus with many registering their guns, if the government ever feels threatened, they'll know who has guns registered and will remove them from their owners. Registering guns is unamerican. Stricter gun laws are unamerican. Stupid people, are universal. Events like this will continue to happen as long as there are irresponsible and/or stupid people. We need stricter anti-stupid laws, if anything. A piece of paper wont change anything. Obtaining guns is easy regardless of gun laws. lil weasel
So, anybody know what model the gun was? How much trigger pull was required to discharge it? Most guns I have dealt with had three pound, and usually more, as a trigger pull.

Lots of women carry revolvers in their purses for self defense and not standard semi automatic pistols, so I don't think we can definitively say she is an idiot for not having the safety on. Still she should've been carrying it on her person travelling with a young child. a20characterusername

[...] she should've been carrying it on her person travelling with a young child. The safety on a Modern Revolver is that the weapon cannot be fired unless the trigger is held to the extreme rear of its travel.I agree, The problem in this case is that she did Not have weapon on her person, and allowed it to be out of her control. Secondly I find it hard to believe a woman as smart as she is could do something so stupid. Also she was irresponsible her husband is talking strangely by saying otherwise.
