helpplease
Right but this was 2008. It actually goes back to what I said about San Andreas in another thread about choices being cosmetic. Why bother putting in mini games like arcade games etc when the actual destruction effects are crap? I remember Red Faction when it came out you could literally blast threw walls, getting to places you shouldn't. building destruction effects are dumb and resource hoarding, i'm supposed to destroy the rotterdam tower with what in IV? and after two missions i go back and is still there? again, is a waste to make buildings destructible unless it stays like that. Im pretty sure if I did a poll whether ppl want destruction effects they would overwhelmingly vote yes.
Ducard
So you prefer the theme of VC, therefore it is superior? Thats a very simplistic way of putting it, when you consider it includes art style and sound. Also, the destruction physics are meh. You can blow up cars alright but the buildings themselves no. unlike every other gta where you can destroy buildings. Right but this was 2008. I remember Red Faction when it came out you could literally blast threw walls, getting to places you shouldn't. Destructible environments would be very taxing in a game the scale of GTA. Even the PS4/Xbox one may find it difficult to have fully destructible environments. While I love the idea of a destructible environment, there are other problems GTA should tackle first, like a non-linear story where you can do whatever you want. Ninja_Gear
I haven't played 5 yet but here is my thoughts: GTA 4 was a really well made game. The physics, controls etc are all vastly superior to the PS2 generation. Yet GTA 4 lacked something. Maybe we are getting jaded by open worlds but IMO GTA lacks the VC factor. Now I am not a complete VC fanboy in that I recognize that the controls are out of date and the lack of checkpoints are annoying. However, GTA Vice City is what really kicked off the GTA series. GTA 3 gets acclaim but it was not a hit. IMO as good as the graphics were in 4 and improved gameplay it lacked the atmosphere and epicness of VC. VC had a great theme which was reinforced by the colourful- fast cars of VC, the radio and characters. GTA 4 is a very good game but IMO VC is the only game of the entire series which I thought they captured the right atmosphere. True, and GTA V feels like a huge step backwards to GTA IV. Horrible Saints Row like physics, same goes for the lame damage modeling. San Andreas lacks the vibe GTA VC and GTA 3 had and is just going away from its roots even more then ever before. It just doesn't like like a Grand Theft 'Auto' game anymore. Its a fun game, but imo just not a real GTA worthy title. City feels empty even though its less empty then GTA 3/VC. Vehicle sounds are more horrid then ever as well.
helpplease
Another alternative is instead of making a map which is geographically 10-20 times bigger than Vice City why not just make a map the size of Vice City again but actually making every building accessible? GTA and all open worlds need to try and do more with less land mass IMO. Ninja_Gear
Blingy
Boy for saying you aren't a fanboy you sure are hung up on VC being the best GTA to be made. I love VC myself, don't get me wrong, but in no way would I say it's the best GTA title. In fact, I would say 3 is probably the best title to date solely on the basis of how much impact it made, the fact that it changed EVERY BODIES perspective on how a third person game could play, and the drama that it caused even before release. But yeah, VC did have a great atmosphere.

Along with better background sounds, better atmospere, better engine sounds and a brand new set of physics and damage modling. Doesn't need to be full-sim. But going along with its time would be a good thing. Blingy

Shenmue18
GTA 3 gets acclaim but it was not a hit. The game sold over 13 millions copies on the PS2 dude and is the 5th best selling game on the console. How in the hell is that not a hit? It came out in 2001 though and was the least sold GTA game of the 3. Okay. It did sell the least copies of the big 3 from the 3D era, but it was the 5th highest selling PS2 game ever, being on the top ten list of highest selling games for a console is practically the definition of what a "big hit" game is. CarnageRacing00
VC struck the perfect balance of III's silly, arcade-like game play, and the refinement of ideas and well made story of SA. That's why it was so good, it took III and made it better before the series went for larger scale. But the question is, does IV lack something? Does V? No. Well, yes, but for each thing not revived from previous games, there's something new in its place. I can't agree that the series should tread water. What a lot of people seem to be calling for is for Rockstar to essentially re-release either VC or SA every new console generation with new cars and updated graphics but nothing more. In a time when game series are homogenized rip offs of each other, I am GLAD to see that GTA IV was so drastically different from SA, and that V is so different from V. That is a GOOD thing. It may be hard to adjust and accept changes, but if it's too hard for you, you can always play Call of Duty and pay $60 for the same f*cking game over and over and over again. PhillBellic
The worst thing about being a fan of VC and GTA IV is like asking me which one of my children I love more. I don't have any children btw. Just trying to draw a comparison. I agree VC has an impeccable atmosphere, but GTA IV's is incredible aswell IMO for what it's trying to be. These two do it the best as far as I'm concerned. I wonder what would happen if we were to mash GTA's VC, and IV together. Would it be the best fuc*ing GTA game ever? Draose
Vice City was awesome for me because it took place in the greatest decade of all time, and brought back a lot of 80s childhood nostalgia of movies like Scarface. It also compensated for the horrible Miami Vice video game out after it in 2005. I wanted a Miami Vice game so bad and got that tragedy, so I continued to live out my 80s and Miami Vice fantasies in Vice City. That being said, VC is and was awesome for nostalgia's sake for those of us who were kids and teens in the 80s, but GTA V is bad ass even with its imperfections. No matter how great the graphics, and gameplay are any and all games will fail to satisfy the masses, we as the consumer/player will always want more and find flaws....even in the future when GTA XX comes out. Dblcut3
What exactly does VC have other than memories? The missions aren't very fun, the map is small, ect. Ive played every GTA game, and Ill openly admit that LCS and III arent the best even tho I grew up on them. And to be honest, I enjoyed VCS better than VC. I think you just have a case of nostalgia
