Let's Talk Mini-Games

I made a poll to this topic asking you about your favorite and least favorite GTA mini-games and how often you play them, but it's not appearing for me at least so go ahead and put that in your response.

Is this thread almost pointless? Yes! But it's a portion of GTA and a lot of games we never much talk about, and I'm curious to see how integral a component mini-games are to GTA.

Additionally, which mini-games would you like to see in the future?

I'd vouch for horse/dog tracks, chess/checkers, and carnival games to start.

Despite all the hate it gets, i want bowling to return. QUB3D should, too or at least some sort of simple, tetris-like game. I'm surprised it didn't return as a Smartphone game in GTA V. As you said, carnival games should definitely be added. Both IV and V have boardwalks that can easily offer simple paintball shooting ranges, skee-ball and dart balloon games. Those games are simple enough to program. I'd also like Poker, that was actually fun in Red Dead Redemption.

Favorite: QUB3D, that sh*t is addicting.

Least favorite: Tennis, i just don't like it.

Edit - Pool has got to return, too. Can't believe i forgot about it.

I've always liked pool especially in IV nothing was better than playing a game of pool in Playboy X's penthouse or in Homebrew cafe. Poker should be in and Horse/dog betting even though I never used them in SA (didn't know about them til now xD ). I've always wanted R* to try Russian roulette  or those street gambling games like three card monte and dice.

Lol, NOOB.

Pool , bowling and darts are king, don't try to refute, it gives a bar feel and personally i love those games iIRL.

I would like to see in the future, dog fighting (yes, i said that) card games and drinking contests.

Worst activities are videogames ( i don't f*cking want to play a tetris/galaga in a gta , it's stupid)

And to dream something, i would like a lottery, imagine seeing the TV and win 500000 dollars. (Would kill the purpose of working for mobsters though)

I like to see lots of interactions in GTA games but; if there will be almost no good enough content more fitting for the GTA and gameplay in general, rather than the bunch of mini-games which just end up as merely filler content is the worst way to solve the problem of making the game more interesting. That said I don't hate mini-games rather the choice of the developers who think yoga, tennis, darts, golf, pool, QUB3D, bowling, air hockey, and number of other boring time pass sh*t as a good idea for them be added to the "GTA games" than wasting brains on coming with interesting ideas similar to drug dealing, more challenging races, variety of rampages, infinite assassination and randomized criminal acts through pay phone jobs and stuff like that, which involves the players a lot hoping for something exciting, and full of surprised than simply sit on a couch and button mash your way through repetitively boring as f*ck mini-games improving the best score.

Drug Dealing in CTW. It HAS to come back. Everytime I grab that game I can't resist making an extra buck or two, or ten thousand pushing coke, smack, acid, weed and whatnot. I would like it to come back swinging.

My least favorite? Paramedic. Dunno why, I just f*cking hate that side-mission.

My favorite minigame in GTA V is golf. It's not super in depth but it can be alot of fun whenever I land that perfect shot. I once scored an Eagle, just once though. Pool would be my second favorite minigame but sadly it was cut from GTA V. Packie used to kick my ass all the time though.

For the future, I'd like to see a minigame where we hit a punching bag to a sequence of buttons (like the Fight Night or UFC games, but not so in depth). This would take our strength up and lets us improve our fighting skill, that is assuming we get a decent melee system in GTA VI. Basketball and pool needs to return. You've mentioned chess/checkers which is also a good one. Casino games definitely need to return...throw in some games from RDR like Liars Dice (are you callin mea liar?) and bring back the home video game console. I remember CJ could play his video game which was neat.

Favourites: Bowling and pool.

Least: Arm wrestling. It's sh*t in TLAD IMO. Much better in RDR.

I've always like the inclusion of minigames. Makes the cities feel more believable that there are hang out spots if you want to take a break from the typical GTA chaos.

Pretty much this, despite not being a fan of CTW.

The only mini games for me are the crime related ones, especially when there's action involved.

Yoga is just pointless for me, I wouldn't buy a video game to play goddamn Yoga,

Pool was my fav. Darts was too easy but I still enjoyed a few games.

As for new ones, how about Pinball... they had it (sort of) in Vice City but you couldn't play.

I actually love the leisure activities in the series. I prefer them to criminal ones because IMO, they are more fun to play.

Favorite activities: Bowling, pool, darts, basketball, Air hockey.

Least favorite: None. Well yoga seems boring but I haven't played V yet so I can't judge.

I agree on golf in V.

To me, golf in V is the best minigame right next to cage fighting in TBOGT. (if you could even consider cagefighting as a minigame).

It was made very well and whoever played golf in real life will be happy with V`s counterpart.

I miss pool in V. And arm wrestling would be good. But not like that one in TLAD (that was little weird- or maybe it was just me who didn`t know how to play it bc i always lost) but more like that one in RDR.

And that`s pretty much all i miss about minigames..

Yep, the arm wrestling in RDR was lightyears better than GTA's.

Most Favorite: Bowling, Air hockey, Dart's, Pool, Golf, Tennis and also Basket ball (known for a bug which will make you never able to play it again along side with Gym & other mini games).

Least favorite: Yoga Nuff said.

I don't understand why we can't drug dealing or even make some molotov by going to the fuel station like in CTW on V? You got no excuses Rockstar, WHY? because of "Console Limit"? or the fact that you're lazy to do that?

I think it's because it might give people some ideas and some idiot might go out and try it. I think thats why they toned down the serious crime stuff in V and replaced it with some silly stuff.

Also how is drug dealing a mini game? It's more of a sidemission or activity. Don't confuse minigames and mix them up with side missions...

Favorite: Drug Dealing, Pool, Hi-Lo, Golf, Scratch Cards

Least favorite: Air Hockey

IMO, scratch cards were nice enough.

I hated Air Hockey because the AI was way too hard to beat. After spending an hour or two playing Armando & Henrique, I was so happy to finally beat them and get the additional % for 100% completion.

I love bowling, pool and air-hockey.

Haven't played V yet, but still can't understand what they were smoking thinking when they put yoga in the game. I just don't get it.

Also, I don't get why they bothered to include darts in V. Once you learn to play it's very easy and boring. They should made a realistic darts board with the 60 point zone worn out.

As a concept, drug dealing would probably be one of the best mini games in the series, since it fits in with the criminal nature of the games, and is more than taking you out of the gameplay to do a mini game - because most of them can be thought of as arcade cabinets, with the mini game completely detached from the normal gameplay. But with drug dealing, you go around the world carrying the drugs, and interact with people to perform the mini game, instead of going to a building and passing a loading screen. However, the system would need to be changed, since in Chinatown wars it was piss easy to gain money from, so there would have to be a bit of reworking in the mechanics to make it a bit more challenging. Still, I'd say it's the best - GTA needs more mini games that aren't detached from the normal gameplay.

As for the worst, I'd go for arm wrestling because it's not really that complex, and as such is fairly pointless. Tennis is also pretty bad, since it's fairly easy and as such is very, very repetitive for 'normal' length matches. It stops being a 'mini' game and becomes a long, tedious countdown to blasting the head off of your opponent when the game finally finishes.

Favourite: Bowling and darts in IV, golfing in V.

Least favourite: Dancing and hydraulics compititons in SA, yoga and tennis in V. Arm wrestling in V seems like it would be fun but it's too easy to accidentally bring up the Xbox dashboard for me.

I'd like to see a demolition derby style event make its way into a future GTA again, but not an "everyone vs. the protagonist" style derby like it was in VC and SA. I'd like this so long as the cars don't retain their near indesctructible bodywork that they have in V. Otherwise, no thank you, because one demo derby match with V's cars would take several days.

One of my favourite mini-games is Pool since I play it almost every day in real life. I also enjoyed QUB3D, although I'm a little bit colorblind. Haha! By the way, my favourite video game within the GTA series is Go Go Space Monkey, it's just too fun!

Not exactly mini-games, but on top of my GTAV wishlist I have Hotring (playable as Michael), Bloodring (playable as Trevor), and Dirtring (playable as Franklin) events set in the Maze Bank Arena. Hopefully, Rockstar will add them in the Story Mode Update. Also, I'd really like to see the return of the Split Sides Comedy Club, it always cracked me up in GTAIV - Dave Chappelle would be perfect as the host of the show.
