Will future editions of GTA be the only game we'll ever need?

I have a thesis that future versions of GTA will be the only game we'll ever need.

To be perfectly honest, even the current version (on current gen) satisfies most, if not all, of my gaming needs.

It (now) satisfies my 1st-person desires

It satisfies my (slight) RP desires

It satisfies my racing desires

It satisfies my driving simulator desires

You can swim

You can fly airplanes

You can use sea vehicles

You can parachute

You can hunt

Okay, so maybe none of these elements individulally, do the job as well as games which are dedicated to each of those things, but as a package GTA blows my mind.

Future GTA games will mean better graphics, better animation, and most important of all, far bigger worlds. There will be more buildings to enter and more things to do.

As far as I'm concerned, GTA is now head and shoulders above anything else out there, and is the greatest example we have of the future of gaming.

But not the best in story telling which i think is one of the important things for gta and every game. The last of us is the first game i have played to have me attached to the characters emotionally and for a game to do that is amazing.

Gta is a great game but its not the greatest game. Its not what I thought it was going to be. The trailer stretched out what online was going to be like. I was expecting some type of car show aspect but sadly none of that. Hell the trailer even had jets flying past windows in the apartment. You cant see any of the current action out the window.

I was expecting a more personal experience but sadly that wasn't the case. Now I love gta and everything it has to offer BUT so much more could have been done but I also believe that was due to last gen and the lack of support it could offer.

I honestly think they should 're issue the online part as its own stand alone game and it could be what we want/need and so much more.

since when? I believe you can see people in planes and down on the ground looking out of high end apartment windows.

I feel as if gta had lost its soul with this game

Yea los santo is great

But complaired to every other gta it's empty

The story sucks and online literally has no story

A lot of the humor and seriousness of previous installments isn't there instead

we get stuck with childish humor an a half a** story

The game kinda lost itself some where alone the lines

the greatness it once had is gone

it's still a good game but it's just not as good

they gave in they dumbed this game down

And I don't mean over time

This game was dumbed down from the beginning

It's kinda sad really

Remember, I did specify "futire versions of GTA".

But even now, for a game to offer so many different game genres in the same package is incredible. As for it lacking story, I don't really see that as an issue. For me, it's the freedom and do-as-you-want gameplay that makes it so special. It's the very fact that I don't HAVE to follow a story that makes it for me.

Yes, it has bugs, online isn't as stable as it might be, we're still waiting for many of the things it looked liked we'd be getting from the start, but for me, GTA demonstrates the future of gaming.

Because of GTA, games that just concentrate on one element now feel incredibly lacking. If I play a racing game, I feel restricted because I can't get out of my car. If I play a FPS I feel retricted because I can't own vehicles and drive them at my leisure.

Because of GTA I'm rapidly becoming less and less interested in games where I can only do one thing, and for a game to have had that affect on me is quite something.

No.

For example, having not played a Single PS3 game until I got a PS3 for GTA V, I now have the ability to go back and play PS3 games very cheaply...When I first joined PS Plus. I got Batman Arkham Asylum on Digital Download (Game of Month) and have now got Arkham City and Arkham Origins. Arkham City and Arkham Asylum leave the Story Mode in GTA V SP (and all GTA's IMO) for Dead...

I was expecting to get the crew when it released. I'm not much into racing games but some friends got it so I thought about (literally) went to a store on three occasions to get it but it was sold out. But now, I have no desire to cuz if I want to race I can do it on gta

This is pretty much the only game I've played since release and no intention of stopping any time soon

Well if a story is that important to you, then fair enough, but I honestly don't think 'stories' are the future of gaming.

The future of gaming as I see it is total and complete freedom to do as you please - you will make up your own stories and live a second, virtual life that is parallel to your real one. GTA already offers this to a large extent.

Let us take things to the extreme. Imagine a GTA that is so big it would take you 15 hours to drive from one end of the map to the other - in real time. That would make the world about as big as the UK, and the UK is one of the smallest countries in the world. Even using the UK as an example, can you imagine the collasal amount of exploring there would be to do?? You could play the game for 12 months solid and still have only explored a tiny portion of it.

Okay, so that's an extreme and I don't think 'worlds' of that scale will become reality in my lifetime, but it's food for thought.

You have some pretty low standards if GTA is your go to game, I doubt you have ever touched a PC? Didn't think so, I'll see myself out.

Just played a first person prison LTS. Love how this game can still give me New awesome gameplay experiences, I been playing the thing for 14 months now!

I hear ya and agree somewhat, and pc modding will further drive the point home but there's some way to go yet.

Game nearly scratches the FPS itch but I keep remembering how much I love my ace53 sv from bf4.

Oh and two important words in my escapism lifestyle: swords and monsters!

One things for sure though. GTA runs in my blood

The problem is that games aren't giving you the chance to make your story like Dragon Age for example.

It's good but it has massive flaws as well:

- The single player story and the game's general aspect, vibe and environment is far too comedy based, childish and immature. It lacks seriousness, realism and maturity. GTA IV, RDR, The Last of Us etc. all have that.

- Combat is immensely imbalanced as people abuse explosives to no end. 99% of Freemode combat only involves either explosives, miniguns or assault shotguns. Auto-Aim is also heavily reliant on rolling and Bulletproof Helmets force people to wear them if they want to improve.

- Freemode should have had world events, special missions and dynamic activities. There's a special place for constant killing. It's called a Deathmatch.

- Driving Physics given traction are broken. Super Cars can easily climb mountains, drive up grassy/rocky hills and can practically go anywhere full speed. Nobody uses roads in the countryside anymore, it's always a straight line from A to B which is ridiculous. Super cars would break down upon entering off-road terrain.

- Vehicle variety is imbalanced as again, 90% of everyone only uses the car which has the top stats in it's class. Cars should have balanced performance where it's the player's choice to choose with what he wants to race with without any major disadvantages. Super Race = Zentorno, SUV Race = Huntley, Off-Road Race = Sanchez (Which is a motorcycle that's heavily overpowered against all other off-roads)

- Online doesn't have a story or career campaign at all. Everyone is everything. A soldier, a car thief, a drug dealer, a hitman, a jet pilot etc. If they added specific careers for player's to choose from, that would give Online meaning.

Example: Mercenary Career, only in this career do you have Merryweather as a contact. Most jobs you receive are military orientated. Exclusive safe house at the Merryweather Docks with personal helipad. Car Thief Career: All your missions come from Simeon, you get special discounts at LS Customs. You can own exclusive 12 car garages. Everything you do is car related. Each career having an exclusive heist at the end.

I want Online to be an actual MMO. Right now it's just a griefing explosive-ridden deathmatch.

Racing is quite fun in this game, but it does not beat any dedicated racing games (arcade or simulation)

You are kidding right. Games don't have to have stories, especially GTA. GTA is a game series that focuses on gameplay, but let's ruin it with story... God...

Racing, maybe not, but I honestly believe it simulates city driving better than any game out there.

I agree, and both of these reasons are where your own imagination and discipline has to kick in.

Interacting with other players can be fun if you fancy the mayhem for a change, but because of the things you mention I nealry always go solo now. Yes, supercars can drive up mountains in this game, but you and I know they can't in real life, so what's the answer? Don't drive supercars up mountains.

Awhile ago I suggested a racing game that was all inclusive. You could change around where your displays went, change engines, open world. Then they made games like Gran Turismo and Forza that literally gave us that and guess what. A new game every 4 years.

That's not a bad thing either. Think of the upgrades they could do to a game in its base code. A game like that would get old over time and not be able to keep up and need a remake and I think any game could support that for about 4 years before requiring an upgrade.

So I think no matter what we'll see a new game every 4 years.

Now the trick I would like to see is that your character is ALWAYS transferable. With that we could continue to build our world and expand and be rewarded for dedication to the game.

I'll say possibly in the future, but there are too many other games I love also. GTAO is beta imo, R*s first go at it so it is a good start.

I speculate another company is working on a similar open world game as i type this. that will blow GTAO away

The long term dream is to make gran turismo open world but who knows when.

Right now I've been looking at Elite Dangerous on PC. That's a potential life waster also.

Yep every other company will have taken note of the sales. Every other company who won't make a dozen foolish coding mistakes with each patch. Every other company who won't limit storable cars etc. On that day when one is released rockstar will either have to get real or be finished.

I get the point of OP, but I don't want (or see) the future of gaming being a thing like a "second life". GTA is great because it gives you liberty, but all this liberty wouldn't be good in every game. Sometimes is good to have objectives and a certain line to follow, a history and things like that or else things would get a little lost.

Variety is important.

On the note of free roam, it has become classic mob mentality you would see in a riot. One person throws the first stone through a window and it's a bunch of sheep mindlessly doing nothing but destroying each other and the city.

I just want to be able to f*cking sit down.

Thats it.

In world full of benches, beach chairs, stumps, and hot tubs, not sitting down is a deal breaker. First online multiplayer crime sim to offer that and im all in. f*ck gta.

I've thought that since San Andrias (?) I find it funny 4 happened and quell those thoughts only to see it return in V.

I agree with the OP. This game is a Jack-of-All-Trades being master of none. Since I am not a HUGE fan of any of those elements he mentioned except 3rd person shooter/Role Player I find I do not need to buy as many games.

I mean so far there is no racing, 1st person shooter, nor sports game I really feel like paying 60 dollars to begin with.

That's my take.

Only thing I want is more RP options using animations NPC uses (sitting on chairs, benches and walls outside in game world as an example) or stuff like backpacks and wearing different hose types for my female char like NPCs are using. (The laced types would look HAWT on her)

what is this in replay to because this isn't apparently meant for the OP at all.

You have some pretty low standards if GTA is your go to game, I doubt you have ever touched a PC? Didn't think so, I'll see myself out.

LOL you mean all the free games via theft?

Or the paying more to play on a 1080P tv?

Or having to hope you don't screw up building your own PC yourself without screwing up and damaging your new PC?

Or the huge price of buying if you DON'T build it yourself?

Was PC Gaming from 2000 to 2011 and built all but my first PC.

So please don't think and if you need help I'll see you out. Thx.

Variety is important.

But isn't that the point of GTA? I never seen a game this varied.

Also people pointed out how it's not as good as *insert dedication format game here*

Rockstar are not experts nor hire experts to make racing feel like Grand Turismo or make sports as in depth as Madden or first person shooters like CoD.

It was never meant to.

But for casuals? This is a fantastic and diverse game in most aspects that replaces most genre's out there. So sure a car can easily go up a mountain. But seen those race cars and how low t the ground they are? They get hung up or have their gizzards ripped from beneath them so easily. You really want to interrupt a race just for that much realism?

GTAO is a casual players dream come true and it fits most of their needs.
