QuackinAColdOne
**Welcome to the 'Official Barn Find Topic' - the point of this topic is to showcase barn finds that you personally have discovered, or have heard about, either from close friends, friends of friends, or even close relatives** You may post barn finds from the internet, but try to keep them interesting. Give as much information as possible - (e.g. car model / make, location of find, what brought you, or the other person to the location of the find, etc.) Discuss others' finds. this is a topic for discussion, ask as many questions as possible; not just for you, but for the whole community to know about. Refrain from flaming and fighting, although I don't think that will be very abundant here. You may debate, though. Post a maximum of two pictures outside of spoilers - to post spoilers, Highlight text >> go to the top left of the post editor >> "Special BB Code >> Select 'Spoiler' I'll start off the conversation. This abandoned Mercedes 300sl Gullwing has recently been found in Cuba by photographer, Poitr Degler, who has traveled 2,000 miles to find this iconic rumor roaming through the country for years on end. 79'Blazer4x4
Closest I have to a "barn find" is my 76' Ford Maverick. Can't say I found it though as it was in my grandparents' pasture/junkyard all my life until I decided to ask if I could have it. By no means is it really rare or collectible but it's more unique and uncommon compared to the Mustangs, Camaros, etc. around. Hell, even uncommon compared to other Mavericks. Seems most people only ever restore the 2 door versions so a done up 4 door will be even less common. I'm sure it get quite a bit of attention when I'm done with it. tranceking26, RoadRunner71, Dottie and 3 others
QuackinAColdOne
What do you plan on doing with it? New engine block? New paint?
79'Blazer4x4
Overall I want it to be a street/strip car, so definitely new paint somewhere along the line. As soon as it warms up I'm gonna start bodywork and sanding it to bare metal. I also want to swap out the 250ci straight six for either a 302 or a 351. I'd love to throw a BOSS 429 in it but those are very pricey. I'd also like to supercharge it at some point, but that will probably come a while after the full restoration is complete. Can't forget the manual conversion, It currently has an auto transmission and I don't really want that in anything I'll be drag racing. Sure you can do it with an auto but how boring would that be? QuackinAColdOne
I agree. I still have to learn to drive a manual, well I need to learn to drive an automatic first. Gnocchi Flip Flops
79'Blazer4x4
If you learn to drive auto then manual isn't too difficult. I'm sure it's not that difficult learning to drive on a manual first either, but I can see it being more difficult than going from auto to manual as you'd have to get used to all the road rules and stuff along with getting used to the stick shift. Of course you will stall it out quite a bit at first. I even stalled my Blazer about 7 times when I first got it before I actually managed to get it anywhere because it was the first time I had driven manual since I was around 8 years old(in the field, not on the road of course). Kinda off topic but funny story. A couple years ago my mom found a cat stuck in a tree that couldn't get down, so I had the idea of parking my step dad's tractor beside the tree and climbing the bucket to reach the cat. I somehow failed to realize that the tractor was a manual as I'd never driven it before, I honestly have absolutely no idea how I got it reversed and then forward across the yard to the tree without realizing it was a manual(maybe I'm a sorcerer). Anyway, I got it to the tree and came in at about 5kmh or so and, still not realizing it was a manual pressed the clutch thinking it was the brake. This obviously didn't do a whole lot in the way of stopping so I ended up hitting the tree, the cat fell out and took off and I was there feeling like an idiot. At this point I realized this pedal I pressed was the clutch, hence why it didn't work as a brake, so I parked the tractor where it originally was and left with a story of how I started up and drove a tractor into a tree all while unaware that it wasn't an automatic. ChrissDaMan
My Porsche is not a barn, more of a racetrack-find, got it while I was down in a place called Mantorp, A big petrolhead-community. This cr had stood for a few years in the same spot where the picture was taken, untill I took it over 79'Blazer4x4 and QuackinAColdOne

ChrissDaMan
Did you restore it yet? Also, I'm guessing garaget.org is your website? No, it's not restored yet, I got it like 8 months or so ago, I was gonna move to Mantorp which is 14,5 miles(20km) away from Stockholm where I live, takes about 2 or 3 hours to drive there, I was there for 1 week, then I went back to my hometown for visit, and well I met a girl which made me stay, so that got kinda in the way from my job hehe (what don't you do for love right?!) Anyways, I left the car with the contacts I have with the people working at the track, they are working on the car as we speak, It is not to be restored though And garaget.org is a swedish car forum

hvcciookay
Wasn't in a barn, but found this 240z a couple of years ago on my way to work. First step was to go to the burger king and adjacent church. Then I knocked on some doors at the apartment complex across the street. Either people thought I was the police asking questions, or no one genuinely knew who owned it. Several months passed and it still sat there, so I went to the local police station and they came out to see it and take down the plates and vin at Burger King's and my request to locate the owner and begin the wait process. 32 Days later, it was mine for the cost of a Lg Whopper meal. I only had my first job for a couple weeks, nor did I have a garage, so quickly I learned of my stupidity when I was up all night looking for KA's and G-2 aero haha. Sold it a couple weeks later for $250 and regret it everytime I see a datsun even after the $30 upcharge for parking at my apartments. https://fbcdn-photos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/v/t1.0-0/63248_615968485096011_2014604989_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&oh=e5a57c0f40ad078912d99d3d9e1fabda&oe=55256316&__gda__=1433350232_deff190d186e4c3271849dbf0eb358ab https://fbcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-0/529722_615967275096132_1286328547_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&oh=dfeee013472a01ed0f28c8a9209e6709&oe=552D5A11&__gda__=1428979352_4a6c95b37c81612afd0d6afa195c26af Edited January 5, 2015 by hvcciookay Gutslab and tranceking26
