Locking Your Personal Vehicle

Why do people do this? I always leave my vehicle unlocked because it adds to the spirit of the game. It's Grand Theft Auto. If people steal my car, it's fun to try to chase them back and take it. However, more and more people are locking their cars now-a-days, and worse, they leave it locked during missions. In the past few hours alone, I've had people wait at the start of missions for me to get into their car, but I can't, because they have their settings to prevent people from getting in their car. Yet they still wait. And they think that I'm the idiot when they're the ones who aren't letting me in.

I keep it locked, it's my car I'm not having somebody steal it and leave me in the middle of nowhere in a mission. And in free roam, my car is needed as when it's not around NO cars spawn anywhere.

 

Only the passenger door is unlocked.

I leave it open just for fun.. And if they do steal my ride I just let them get far.. Kick them out and request it back again. No need for lock.

The vehicle often spawns far away, and the mechanic can't always find a suitable road. It's a moot point regardless. If somebody waits for you to get into their car, they shouldn't lock their car.

Passengers is fine, I like being the friendly guy in free rome that honks when I spot someone instead of killing them.

 

Full unlock is a no go in my opinion, I don't want people to actually drive off with my car.. I agree that would be the realistic thing to do though, it would also make for fun chases I guess. But it's still a hassle getting it back, so I'm keeping it on passenger only.

This is why I want tow trucks online. I think it would be hilarious to tow personal vehicles, even though they could just call the mechanic.

Anyway, I don't care if they steal my car, I can simply request it with the Interaction Menu or call the mechanic for other so no problem. I remember one time some random took my car and when I requested it he sent a message a minute ago: he was about to steal a jet when my car stopped and a tank blasted his butt.

In real life I park my car in the garage, in front of the garage is my jeep. Lol I'm from Boston we lock everything.

Do none of you people read? Seems to be a trend on this forum. Many times, their cars are right next to me and my car is far away for some magical reason. I can call the mechanic or use the menu, but by then they're already waiting for me to get in their cars. And besides, is it wrong that I think doing missions is better when you actually work together?

We had a thread about this. Personally most people let me in their rides. If they don't I usually grab the documents and wait for them to let me in or leave.

I generally keep mine set to passenger only. Sometimes I set it to friends so they can drive it around and when I go into a mission I can forget I have done this and sit there like a moron trying to let someone ride with me and they can't because it is set to friend only. I have even driven away not even thinking I have done this. So I can understand your frustration OP. Sometimes the person may have done something similar to what I do and not even think twice of their mistake.
