Michael-Franklin's Friendship

Recommended Posts

Throughout the game it's showcased that Michael cares for Franklin and loves him like a son. Multiple times when people suggest he bring Franklin along on a dangerous mission he tries to cover for him by saying he barely even knows him. In the Paleto Score since Franklin is the only one not wearing the armor Michael tells Franklin to get behind him so he isn't shot by any of the military after them.

It's just little things but it is showcased and even Trevor comments on it in one of the missions. Franklin seems to share this sentiment to an extent but at times it feels one-sided to Michael. depending on the way you choose to go in, in the IAA Raid mission, while on the phone with Franklin MIchael begins to complain about his family problems but Franklin snaps on him and starts chastising him for always just thinking about himself. I get how Michaels constant groaning about his family can get annoying but it just seemed kinda OOC the way he just snapped. IDK, I just want to know some your opinions about their relationship in the game. I personally enjoyed it and liked it even with the all the things I just mentioned. I thought it was kinda nice to see them interact because it seemed like they really cared about one another and just wanted to help each other whenever they could.

Sorry for the long-winded speech( I get carried away sometimes Haha) but what do you guys think about their friendship/interactions throughout the game?

I would have liked more the relationship between both if Michael didn't have a son, it would have been less of a dick move of him, he even calls him the son he never had !

Is either because they been thru somr things in that short time or because Michael is trying to pretend that Jimmy doesn't exist (can't blame him)

Their relationship is meant to come off as father/son in essence but the whole thing feels forced. One minute Franklin is stealing Jimmy's ride after breaking into Michael's house, and the very next they are buddy buddy chasing a yacht down the freeway? Where was the build up? Not to mention the fact that a rich man like Michael wouldn't waste his time showing some hood the ropes but Rockstar was bound and determined to force the story down our throats, even when it don't make sense. Whatever though. The whole story is forgettable.

Contrived, unbelievable, forced, totally lacking in any real chemistry or bond. I didn't believe for one second that they had grown close or bonded or that they would possibly trust one another so much in so little time. Franklin broke into Micheal's house. Micheal threatened to kill Franklin and got him fired from his job. It made no sense whatsoever that Franklin would risk his life to save Micheal's yacht the very next time he sees him or that they would go on to rob a jewelry store together a week or so later. Preposterous nonsense.

I think he says that because he could teach Frank what he couldn't to Jimmy : Taking Scores like a boss.

Agree also. Niko had better chemistry with some random strangers in IV, than these two MAIN CHARACTERS did!

I did like the interaction/friendship between the two. I will admit, it did happen pretty quick and it may just be the reason why this game need way more than 69 missions. But, I do like what's there. But, that might be because of how I have my own spin on it.

Didn't Franklin say to Michael that he owes him a job, and so that's why they robbed The Union Depository. Yes, it is kinda strange how Franky tagged along on nearly all occasions, like the scene where Michael ripped down that house that belonged to the Mexican. But I don't think that it is strange to see potential in a person.

Persistence, potential and purpose is probably what Michael saw out of him; I know I would if someone literally came to my house for a job (considering I was a successful bank robber). During the times of the boat scene and all that, I don't really consider them friends, but it's more of a situation where you're in a fight and a passer-by comes at the right time to help you out. It was more like after the FIB appeared when their friendship really flourished, mainly because they had the same goals (and the fact that Michael could trust Franklin).

In my final opinion, the bond between these two characters ended up being based upon trust and common-cause. Kinda like brothers-in-arms.
