I don't think so. Rockstar's putting way too much accent on Online. It is, currently, their main source of income.
They won't let it die. They'll have to run it for years and milk the hell out of it first.

And technically, when GTA 6 will come out, Online will move onto that. So no, I don't think so.

Yes it will be destroyed. Go buy a PS4 if you wanna play GTAO. GTA IV's MP was horrible on PC.

.........

Anyway, no multiplayer game can be cheat-free. Just report them (there is a function to do so in GTA:O) and move on.

I hope they'll improve the security, obviously.

I think it will be a trainwreck at first. It will take some time for R* to patch the cheatholes. Then they'll pop back up again. Get as many legit, noncheater friends as possible and play in a friends-only lobbies

R* didn't care much about GTA IV multiplayer (no cash cards).

GTA Online is very different (buy cash cards). There are many activities (buy cash cards), things to do (cash cards), ranks to get (buy cash cards).

Got it?

No,you forget to mention about cash cards. Edited by andersona7x6661

Limiting the game to one user account per copy should go a long way toward curbing the plague of hackers. GfWL letting users create unlimited accounts per copy was a disaster for GTA IV. Plus, Microsoft's 'report cheater' letterbox may as well have had a shredder fitted to the inside of it.

That is another reason why i like Single Player more! I'm the only manager of my game, nobody has power to break in, destroy fun for me! Neither some underage dickweed, who decided he'can compensate his miserable real life, by becoming mr. tough guy online and trolling the hell of the people, not some spoiled elitist, which climbed the ladder and became one of the best online players and now trolling those, who play worse then himself simply out of boredom, not some spoiled cheater, who can't imagine aiming someone at head and pull trigger, without according cheat function helping him to do so...Neither of those is a problem for me, because i'm the only master and architector of my own race and nobody and nothing can change that! THAT is i thank single player experience for!

You are disagreeing that GTA IV MP was a sh*tshow? What's your point mate?

will multiplayer destroy cheaters?

THIS.

Also, if you see a hacker, just f*cking report him and change lobbies.

That's a console issue too, I had to deal with hundreds of them in the PS3 era. I would often just stay and rape their ass unless they had God Mode, in that case I would just report them and change lobbies.

I'm so much affraid of cheaters in GTA Online that I will wait till a version of Simple Trainer or other similar mod is released and fully working in Online mode before ever risking to play Online in Open sessions on PC, I had so much experience with GTAIV Online mode in the past, I've learned the best way to fight cheaters/griefers is to use the same tools they use, I don't like to cheat, but nothing will stop me from using a god mode after being killed 10-20 times by the same damn cheater who think its funny to kill same player over and over with a rocket launcher from the top of a tower or something like that.

Maybe whitelisted servers would be a good idea.

Servers where hackers dont get acces easily, and if they do hack.. BAM, blacklisted.

But look at the bright side, hacking and modding in online are not allowed in GTA V.

Hacking (godmode etc) can be annoying.

Mods (Ramps and other crazy stuff) can be fun.

I had fun on GTA IV even with hackers, sometimes there would be a hacker that f*cks with everybody.

But often it was alot of fun.

But still in GTAO ~ No hackers / modders > Hackers / modders

Edit* GTAO will need the best anti cheat system in the world, hackers / cheaters always aim to hack and cheat on the most loved / most popular titles the most.

But there are no plans ("information" in R*'s own words) on cash cards for the PC GTAO community.

Part of this, I suspect, has to do with the lack of a third-party managed pay system for the cards themselves (i.e. Sony's PSN or MS's XBox Live). Not that Steam couldn't handle it (I think they could) but whether or not R* and Valve are both willing to do it.

BTW; as for VAC, it's not perfect either, but it's probably more reliable than Punkbuster...which to me, is just a joke. BF3 as a case in point: for every person getting kicked from BF3 by PB, (I would guesstime there was probably one or two haxors it didn't catch).

Edited by DentureDynamite

If they implement VAC or Punkbuster, That might thin the numbers of hackers slightly. I'm not getting my hopes up though, so unless there's support for third party dedicated servers Online may just crash and burn.

VAC takes time to kick in and Punkbuster is crap. If it`s only VAC and Punkbuster then it will be cheater heaven.

Yeah All R* cares about is GTA Online and adding overpriced materialistic junk( cars, clothes etc.) No Word on new upcoming games too, which R* is due for. So yeah, they'll need to make sure no one can hack or glitch GTA Online for computer generated virtual money (cash cards) instead of buying them.
