Its JavaScript the old Opera mini doesn't support, which is great when you only wanna read stuff, it may not be the most secure as newer versions but I've yet to be bothered by ads and that really matterd to me cause I hate em.

 

Try'd a couple VPNs for the ole android dog n bone and from the ones I found "Zero VPN" had decent speeds and no usage caps as far as I seen... whats a grumble flick. I use it to access this site on chrome... complete with French ads.
