They should do a "special item redemption ticket" from boxes on the last day - where by you could take it to a shop and choose any hat/t-shirt you missed. Especially with the K-Rose on the outage day (thankfully I got both K-Roses 1st time round). I'd love another chance to get the Base 5 T-shirt for my guy, that was one of my favourite t-shirt's for CJ.

For people that missed a few items, there might be some hope after all! I've got this response from Rockstar Support, after questioning if they would give another chance for me to get the christmas gift after the PSN issues on December 25th

I think me getting the Green Benedict Beerhat was simply a fluke, like the few players that have gotten the J. Lager or the Blarney Beerhats, I guess they are kind of glitched, but I did get it on the 30th right before the snow came(the 31st GMT).

Although I'm sure this has been posted before, I'd like to give some advice on those having trouble getting a crate.

 

Again, my personal opinion and tips.

 

When you see the 10hr notification do not rush to a chopper or jet. I play it cool until I see the final 3hr countdown.

 

Once I'm notified, I make my way to Trevor's air base and pick up my buzzard. I personally land my chopper and wait right next to the "Hollywood" sign and exit the chopper. So it appears I'm not going for it. Those who sit in choppers tend to get taken down and just give away the fact your going after the crate. You want to be sneaky. Then you wait.

 

You should know 3hrs is six minutes in real life so I use my iphone to time it. While waiting I check the skies and see who is and isn't a threat. Don't worry about jets. They have a huge disadvantage.

 

Once the crate is dropped, I enter the chopper and go to my map and see where it's at, mark it and head towards it. Stay low to the ground. Remember the closer you are to the ground the faster you land. The people who wait all the way at max altitude take forever to reach the landing zone.

 

If there is a jet coming towards you, enter passive mode, or enter passive until you get to the crate so no one can take you down. You have to account for the NPCs which always take people who are in passive out before they get to the crate. Once your close enough to the crate, I go off the radar and disable passive. If there's only one other person going after the crate, be sure to place a bounty on them so they cannot entire passive mode. Id advise you take out the NPCs first because of the risk of you dying, then picking up the crate. I usually kill them all then enter passive to pick up the crate.

 

I've used the above strategy and always get the crate on my first try. The key is to appear like your not going after it and always have a plan. I don't use a jet because it takes longer for you to parachute down and you also get shot by the NPCs while doing so.

 

Check the lobbies and stats of all the other players. Since my K/D is 2.66 I know I can usually outsmart and take down most people who go after the crates.

I agree that the evidence suggests that the beer hats are still bugged. Too many have reported getting them (J-Lager/Blarney) when they are supposed to be getting the item that R* is officially dropping. The shirts don't seem to have this whacky bugginess going on.

 

It also seems the beer hats are bugging more frequently on last gen consoles if this thread is representative.

 

I've really given up the beer hat obsession for J Lager and Blarney. I want them no doubt. However, it's like lightning. No one has figured any method that increases the chances of having one unlock for you.

 

So until they officially drop en masse, 15-20 crates a day just well is off my list. Two crates (one for each character of the special item) daily and I'm dooooone.

I echo the sentiment that jumping straight into a chopper/plane at the 10 hour notification is a waste of time. 'Lazer Guy' might enjoy rattling the saber for 20 minutes but I've got better things to do (like donging around in the snow, for example).

 

However, once the 3 hour alert arrives, it's on....

Thumbs on in your selfie

On the ps4 you just change your player action to thumbs up and press the left on the dpad when taking the selfie. Not sure if it's the same on the ps3 or not.

LOL I was in a lobby earlier and the crate dropped. I was in my Entity and headed that way and when I reached there a buzzard landed on the crate. I had him in my sights but he was in passive so couldn't take him out. Dude jumps out of the buzzard and gets killed immediately by the npc's lol. Have no idea how that happened, if you looked on the map he was basically on the crate icon and didn't get it. I ran to the crate, killed some npc's, and picked it up

I wonder if a modder has anything to do with it, like when they use to be able to mod what was going to be inside the crate, if they are doing that but we are the ones grabbing it, it would explain the few people that have gotten J. Lager and Blarney Hats too. I mean why in the hell did I get a Benedict hat on New Year's Eve(Early Morning before it was snowing in-game). Everyone else was apparently getting Patriot Hats.

This was next gen (PS4) though...

 

I didn't realise it had happened until I went to the store to try on what I thought would be a K-DST shirt... and it weren't there! So I checked my hat section just in case and there was a new content star next to special hats, go in and there's a patriot hat!

 

(I'm surprised I've not had a hat before though given just how much crate hunting I've done.. successfully...)

 

Bit miffed tbh.. means I have to go crate hunting this afternoon for the damn shirt now!!
