I need someone to explain this to me

-How come you can get into accidents in the front of the cops and get no stars ? but if you shoot 3 NPCs in the dessert you'll get a star.

-How come you can run the traffic lights right in the front of the cops and get no stars ? but if you stand near them for 5 seconds you'll get a star..??

-You get in accidents in the front of the cops and they do nothing.

-NPCs get in accidents in the front of the cops and they do nothing.

When will the cops be seen pulling over NPCs for speeding?

When will the cops be seen making arrest aside from always having shootouts?

Rockstar really knows how to milk cutscenes - I have yet to see this

I ask myself the same thing.

It's GTA, not ultra realistic gangster simulator. There's a limit in games to how realistic you can be before it starts negatively affecting the gameplay and narrative.

Yeah and what games around are crime games that are to realistic, as far as I know not one has ever been made.

Thats a game, dude.

If you want to feel a bit of realism, i suggest you to play a PS2 game called "The Getaway".

The game try to create a realistic sensation and that was just booooooring.

Yeah because that game totally holds up as realistic, and the PS2 totally had good enough technology to make a realistic game.

Even so that game was critically acclaimed and GTA IV and GTA V resembles that game in terms of details, shootouts, and the city design and world more then GTA IV and GTA V resembles the even worse and dated low detailed gameplay mechanics of shooting and driving those games had.

The Getaway, had a cover system, better aimming system, somewhat smart AI that took cover, a pretty good amount of traffic on the streets for it's time and a somewhat interesting crime action movie story.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was launched on the same platform as The Getaway. The game has very poor car models, textures, graphics but an incredible minor features that turned the game into a classic TO ME.

PS2 had technology good enough to create a realistic experience just "Mafia" did.

If GTA were more realistic, this could be considered a simulator.

In a first moment all that realismo would be COOL, but after you complete the game and just want to free roam this turn into a annoying experience.

Believe me, I already went through this...

I swear if some of the people on this forum were in charge of making GTAs it would be the most boring game ever. If people want a completely realistic game they need to create a new franchise.

Yeah and Mafia was an awful port to the PS2 that took like 3 years to make after the PC version, besides even if I was to go and play Mafia the game doesn't hold up, since the AI was very dumb, it didn't have a cover system, it had clunky controls, it had very little traffic, etc.

What it did have though, was a cool story, actual crime missions, a good for it's time fighting system, and that car accidents would damage your character and a lot of good details and very good graphics for it's time.

R* is the best when it comes to free world and open world games, they put in tons of details and give the players tons of things to do ( something that Mafia and The Getaway did not which was one major reason why GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas were more successful ), if they would put in effort to build an actual crime game and crime story and put in more simulator game play mechanics it would be a masterpiece.

As a matter of fact, R* could do both, they could use drug hallucinations or a crazy character like Trevor to do the really crazy over the top sort of stuff, and kept Michael and Franklin doing realistic crimes that would make sense with the character and story, and made it so the player could choose a hardcore or "realistic" difficulty setting.

Just imagine, you murder someone and your character got arrested, get sentenced with 30 years prison and you can't skip that.

You only can get out 30 real life years later.

That is the consequence of the realism xD

So a game where you would rob stores, stick people up, trade drugs and guns, pimp women, have turf battles ( and can do all of the other free roaming non crime stuff the game lets you do ) that has actual tough and smart cops, and a character who isn't a super hero and the game is challenging and offers more realistic damage, car damage, fighting system, shooting system, driving physics, AI would be boring?

Yet missions where your a bullet sponge in super advanced armor and carry around a minigun and easily shoot 100 brain dead cops and national guard and helicopters on a small town bank heist is "fun" even though it's super easy, takes no skill or thought, doesn't make much sense in the story, and is just another generic glorified shooting gallery mission ( that has been in video games for like 20 years now ) anyway?

Except nobody who is asking for realism or simulator game play asks for that.

That's like saying, boxing fans don't want a boxing simulator because they would create a boxer and get knocked out a few times and the character would suffer brain damage and they would no longer be able to play anymore.

Or that baseball fans don't want a baseball simulator where your player spends 5 years in the minor leagues, needs to juice to make it to the Major Leagues bench, and gets caught taking PED's and suspended and has to wait 50 days in real life to play another game.

When we say we want a simulator game, we want a game where things like the physics, gunplay, driving, damage, AI, story is closely similar to the real life version of whatever activity the game tackles.

If the character gets arrested, or dies the player could just start a new game or reset it, rather then simulate going to court and trial, but atleast make it so the cops are somewhat smart enough to be able to arrest the player, behave somewhat like real cops, and the other things react somewhat realistically.

If people want a crime simulator they should petition for one but stop trying to turn GTA into one. IV is as far as they should go into the realism thing and even many fans thought that was too far. IV was a departure for the franchise and with the exception of that and TLAD it has always been about over the top action. Most people don't want to obey traffic laws in the game.

Yet RDR and LA Noire were even more realistic then those two games. Also, I would be perfectly fine with R* making the story moderately realistic but still over the top ( since a game where your character is a criminal who gets away with so many murders, and robberies and all sorts of crimes would always be like that anyway ), and putting in multiple difficulty settings ( they already let players use auto aim on or off, and the hud on or off and first person mode ), just make it so the game has a normal difficulty setting and a hardcore or "realistic" difficulty setting ( lower health, regen health off, smarter AI, can carry limited weapons and ammo, limited player stats, more recoil, less accurate enemy AI, more realistic driving physics, more realistic car damage ) and put in a custom mode where people can toggle between these settings.

Honestly, R* is losing money, some guys here on this forum are real genius with some awesome and revolutionary ideas.

I will suggest some of them to get a job on the development of the next GTA, i'm just sending an email right now.

We can start with the guy who complains the trees didn't move, working directly with R* he can make the trees move, swim, walk, steal cars...

Oh, we can't forget the another guy complaing because the stars don't move...

La Noire was garbage. I traded it in after a week because I got sick of walking around waiting for the controller to vibrate. RDR was a great game but it actually wasn't very realistic.

I'm all for realism, but to be honest if we had to completely obey traffic laws and whatnot it would make the game boring, not to mention it'd be hard to do. There's a feature in Mafia 2 I believe where you can set your car to drive the speed limit. I liked that. I'd suggest an auto drive option for GTA. How many times have you been driving along in your customized car and some A-hole pulls directly into you? It's frequent but with an auto-drive mechanic, we could allow our protags to simply drive like a ped and drastically decrease this.

One area I'd like to see them improve is the cop's shoot now ask questions (or don't) later philosophy. If you think about real life, a cop will only shoot to kill if his life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, not because you fled the scene when they tried to arrest you. I'd like a mechanic where cops could chase you on foot and tackle or taze you, then arrest you.

They made great progress with the police in GTA IV. I used to help them catch crooks by trying to slow them down with my car...good times because the police actually arrested ppl other than you. In GTA V, sadly it's back to Die Hard shootouts.

GTA IV Cops system was a great improvement over the 3D cops, hands down, and with some nice little interesting touches introduced as well.

All V had to do was to improve on Police AI further more by tweaking the difficulty, and making them more challenging than too overreacting like its not some dude running away from crime but some terrorist. Its so irritating to see even the NPCs are now able to call cops for the things that defies logic altogether.

All in all, they made the cops system more annoying than interesting or challenging to enjoy the wanted system in free roaming.

Trees not moving is a bug that R* has responded to and could hopefully fix and is very minor, so how does that relate to this topic at all?

In GTA IV the game had better car damage modeling ( or atleast more consistent ), and you didn't have regenerating health, and it had a more believable ( although still obviously over the top and not realistic ) group of missions, and characters and story and felt more like an actual crime game. It also didn't have regenerating health or enemy AI that was needed to be scripted to be super accurate to provide any sort of challenge.

Obviously GTA IV, in terms of graphics, controls, map size, things to do, details, first person mode gets demolished by GTA V and GTA V is the better game, but GTA IV did have some better gameplay mechanics and R* dumbed down GTA V, heck RDR and LA Noire and Midnight Club and Max Payne all had some areas of gameplay that was done better compared to GTA V.

Also R* puts so much effort and does such a great job designing the map and making a living world in their games, that it's really hard to play any other sort of free roam or open world game, I would just like if I atleast had the option to play more simulator style.

The game has taxi's and public transportation so that makes it so the complaints that realistic traffic, or traffic laws or a big map would take to long to navigate nil anyway.

Also keep in mind that if the game truly had a realistic or sim style traffic system you would only get wanted when you were seen speeding or violating traffic laws by cops who are patrolling ( which isn't that often in this game ) or unless you drove entirely crazy and someone reported you or you got caught on a camera ( which could just be scripted if you are doing many hit and runs ).

I agree with your point about the cops, in this game they just try to shoot and kill way to easy, they hardly try to arrest anymore and they will hardly chase you down on foot without resorting to guns.

In GTA IV a gameplay mechanic that I liked, was that if you committed a minor ( for a GTA game ) crime, like a mugging or assault the cops would chase you on foot when you ran away, but if you try to do that now and you run down a block the cops typically resort to pulling out the gun they have.

This is even worse, since the game has nightsticks and stun guns now, imagine if you tried to run from the cops and instead of shooting to kill you, they tried to use a stun gun if they got close enough and stunned you and when you fell they beat you up with nightsticks and busted you instead. That would be a challenging gameplay mechanic, it would be somewhat funny and interesting, and it would be somewhat realistic and fun.

Instead R* just scripted it so when you ran a block you get an extra star and the cops start shooting at you and you get into another shootout.

Exactly, in this game you hardly feel like a criminal outside of maybe really, really early on in the game.
