Opinion on NPC Traffic

  1. 1. What do you think of NPCs trying so hard to crash into you?

    • Can you f*ckers PLEASE learn how to drive ffs?

    • It's fine just the way it is and I thoroughly enjoy crashing into every car I see.

Hmph.

I reminds me of when I first ran into it on the pre High Life Update Rooftop Rumble. When the NPC cars would deliberately ram you as you sped off to Madrazos.

My assumption was that they carried that more into regular gameplay.

And yes, it is annoying.

rooftop rumble taught me that after you collect a document or package there is a good 3 seconds before your character will try to get into his own car. Instead he will run for the next nearest one to waste time until the SUVs arrive. Then you must contend with that one car that always swerves into you before you go left past lsc

Trust me on this, even when you can attribute hyper speed/traction and infinite mass to your cars using "magic" they still get stopped dead on the spot by the random glitchy killer tank-car hovering around the corner ahead...

That's how messed up this game can be.

Glad to see most of you share my frustration..well actually I'm not glad that everyone else is frustrated too, but glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way about npc traffic.

F.Y.I. I am currently on X1 and see no improvement at all in the AI, over the 360 version.

the worst is when you hit a npc car and is solid like a rock and would stop you or when you crash into them and they get some massive torque that will push your car for like a block.

Yeah I forgot to mention npc cars becoming brick walls sometimes when you crash into them. Definitely annoying as f*ck. Even if I'm in my Sandking/Dubsta, I still can't win...they just push me around as if I were in a Panto or something...

...or when you're about to go straight through an intersection and the NPC's driving across clearly speed up / slow down to be in perfect position for you to T-bone them trying to get through. :p

YES that too! Like wtf COME ON...Is this necessary..? I don't think so...

Any NPC that cuts me off during a mission gets a face full of AP Pistol or sticky bomb.

Haha I do the same thing sometimes after a super ridiculous crash...It's honestly worth wasting the ammo, just to get the satisfaction of killing that piece of sh*t.

I just feel if they were to fix the AI, this game would play sooo much smoother and there'd be infinitely less wtf moments. Missions/Freemode really don't need such excessive levels of npc hostility. Again, it doesn't make the game harder at all; it just frustrates everyone unnecessarily.

I love how the traffic uses blinkers at traffic lights when they want to make a turn but never where it matters.

Apparently npcs cant drive in the rain either

That reminds me of a time that I was stationary at traffic lights and an NPC Felon GT came from the left, took a 90 degree angle turn in front of me, then flipped the car over and rolled it over and over. I had a Felon as my first PV and it used to happen to me in races all too often, that was the first time I'd seen an NPC roll a car though.

One of the things I hate about AI drivers is the way that almost every time you overtake it times it so that a car comes from the other direction and you have to squeeze between them. It's bull****.

I also hate it how it's so rare that you can do a leisurely drift on a corner without another car being strategically placed right in the f*****g way, every f*****g time.

I was speeding my way to LSC when a SUV slide sideways into my lane. Not spun. Pushed sideways as if by God.

WTF, Rockstar!

WTF, Rockstar!

This issue has nothing to do with god or anything but R* bad programming practise. There are 2 driving modes for NPCs: one is like 'floating' without actual in-game physics and another with real in-game physics. Sometimes, due to lag or any other reason that is unknown to me, the game is unable to switch from one mode to another in time.

But there is more: same logic applies to your enemies in missions. It's no secret that enemy behaviour and positioning is changing when you're locked on them: as you're locked, they're starting to move to cover or just changing position. When you're close, there is no problem with this at all: quick grenade, switching to auto shotgun and you're good. Things are going out of control, when you're sniping them. I swear, it's easier for me to kill another player with sniper rifle than some NPC. Why? Because I'm aiming at some guy over his sigh range, he's starting to dance erratically. His movements are too fast, impossible fast. Sometimes, NPC are moving in my rifle scope with their legs being stationary.

Just came from a race, lost due to traffic. I was on a two-lane road, approaching an NPC from behind. Just a straight road, no option to turn left/right. The NPC, just before I passed him, abruptly turned left (no road to turn left onto, WTF), ONTO THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. Went from 1st to 5th place because of this bullsh*t. Did the NPC decide to do a random U-turn or something?

You on current Gen or last?

I remember that one video saying cars turning in front of us and other various instances of bad NPC driving was due to the current console limitations loading, or whatever.

Soon as i got on the. PS4 i checked 2 things.

Speed cap and AI driving.

Both still lame.

I heard about it too. The game is basically a high-resolution remake with the same basic code, so AI is identical i both games.

The speed cap is something different. There is a myth, that you can achieve higher max speed in SP, which is only partially true. You can, but only driving with Franklin and using his special ability. Check it yourself.

Hmph.

And yes, it is annoying.

It's 'disturbed' traffic mode. Your enemies in their Grangers caused that in old RR. Try driving around the city and shooting at nothing, there will be the same result. And no, the regular traffic was always bad. Sometimes it's lag affected and looks worse, sometimes it's not and looks better. In general, traffic AI is absolute bollix.

Ouch...Proof that even in races, traffic is overly and unnecessarily hostile and even just downright mentally challenged...

We choose to turn on traffic and let these stupid NPCs have the honor of being present during our races and this is how they repay us? F*ckers...

Gnocchi Flip Flops

In SP I usually cruise all slow and relaxed and that's when the AI's flaws really start to show. It really needs some work.i've had crashes from driving normal. You know the systems bad if that happens.

It's poor AI programming. Watch this. This video describes the 360/PS3 version, but it's relevant.

This is worse than real life, lol.

It's kind of stupid that cars stop if you slow down, cars move through an intersection if you keep going. Rubbish AI, yet people say IV was bad and V is good and praise it.. wtf.

People should be praising IV's AI..

The way they go out of their way and cut across three or four lanes of traffic to cut you off always reminds me of this:

I'm convinced the NPC drivers are even worse on new gen.

You know those NPCs that are doing mach 7 across intersections right in front of you, perfectly timed to cause a crash? The other day I was approaching an intersection in my Zentorno, going pretty damn fast, and I was planning to turn right. One of those NPCs came flying across the intersection just as I slammed on the brakes, and he immediatly slowed down in record time as well. I ended up stopping at the light, and the NPC stopped too, right in the middle of the intersection, just waiting for me to accelerate so he could crash into me. He just sat there and didn't move until I started going.

Thier speeds really are programed to match your own and they seem to either slam the brakes or not slow down at all, depending on which way you swerve.

If anyone is saying "Learn to drive instead of running into cars", it's not our fault that the dumb ass AI can't look before merging. I really wish R* could fix this because I could only image current-gen being much worse than last gen with more traffic deciding to pull out in front of you.

It is programmed for sure not random behavior, you will find going in to buy snacks an NPC will be positioned to bump into you while entering resulting in a wanted level.

You'd think people would get wise and know the traffic will do the dumbest thing as you over take.

Man that's terrible. Gotta love how Rockstar went out of their way to troll us with things like this. Troll us super hard and right in the ass...

I disagree, i love being crashed by NPCs randomly and i think they should leave it like that, makes the game more of a challenge.

Haven't read the entire thread, just got aggrivated reading the OP, needed to vent a little bit!

The single worst thing is being stuck in between two cars at a red light. (Yes, sometimes I do follow the law)

Then when using the horn, if the first NPC isn't moving at green light, the NPC

behind me will occasionally ram me, for being scared(?), this also happens from time to time when the light hasn't turned

from red to green. (Don't ask me why I'm honking at a red light)

Not to mention the brute force when doing so...

The acceleration of the NPC cars from 0-60/mph is like 0.0001 ms and have enough torque to push/force a Airbus A380 on it's back

This is ridiculous.

I can sort of understand NPC's hitting you when you go through a red light as it's technically their right of way. Some times I'll just cruse in online and I can be driving on a highway following the speed limit and some random idiot will turn straight into the side of my car when two lanes merge into one. The even more stupid thing with it is I'm normally in the lane that continues on. It must be programmed into the game or something but NPC's will always swear and blame you for an accident even though they were the one who caused it.

Cars changing lanes in front of you was programmed into IV too. Not as aggressively as V though.

Imagine being the guy who programmed the vehicles that are obviously timed to cross your path at intersections.

(Lester-like voice): "This'll get 'em. Hur hur!"
