I wanted to know how people want to race.

THIS IS FOR RANDOM LOBBIES, when i drive in a crew i would turn all settings off and race a standard race. but for a casual race, it might be different.

I believe Slipstream is never really a good feature, so i choose to ignore it in the poll (its always off).

Catchup, on the first look is a no-go, but i kinda like it. it makes the races more spicey, its more forgiving.

GTA Races are something else...

edit after a few votes: it seems to be catchup OFF, slipstream OFF, and standard/noncontact is probably dependable on type of race and number of players. this is good info so far.

I don't want to vote because I like no contact and no catch up/slipstream equally providing you have no rammers or someone lagging. But I suppose just to be sure no contact.

Catch-up was one of the worst things they put in this game. Slipstream is up there too.

personally i prefer racing with contact on, no catchup...

slipstream im 50:50 on... i like the idea of it, as drafting is a real thing,,, but.. its waaay to OP and can cause more trouble than its worth...

you also missed traffic... that can add some extra spice to non contact racing, which i dont find quite as existing as full contact. Although i did a NC race the other day with some randoms... me an another guy in zentornos were neck and neck so i did my best to blend the two cars into one... it looked cool, until he totally missed a corner, felt kinda bad as no doubt the two cars blending threw off his concentration... a fun tactic though

My personal settings are usually contact:on, catchup:off, slipstream on.

While slipstreaming in the game is extreme compared to real life, i believe the logic behind it keeps the race interesting, despite occassionally frustrating.

A race just gets boring when you know your end position within the first few seconds.

no one ever uses non contact when I join a random race. Some people still don't even realise its even an option.

this sounds like smash your car to spin out opponent settings. Do not rate

I've had the best luck keeping randoms in my lobbies with Non-Contact, Custom cars ON, traffic OFF. Car class has a large role also, people like to race supers and sports, so I usually start with that then go to muscle, then maybe sports classics. By that time most people will leave because of the difficulty spike.

The general population usually has it set to standard race, traffic OFF, Customs ON, Catchup ON, Slipstream ON. Not because these are the optimal settinfs, but because they are default and people don't know any better.

My preferred settings are standard race, traffic off, customs on, catchup off, slipstream off.

Anything with contact races in GTA is that. I just prefer contact races because the sheer presence of a rival driver can put a player on the defensive. Edited by AscendantWyvern

iut also takes more skill to overtake a car, than it does to pass through a ghost.... Non contact isnt "clean" racing imo... its a way to avoid dirty racing... Clean racing has to be contact, otherwise theres no skill in NOT hitting your opponents (although in random lobbies contact races should really be called, "first corner pileup" )

Sports/super cars, contact on, no catchup because it's stupid and no slipstream because it's annoying in corners. There's always that one guy who tries to take everyone out but that makes it more fun imo.

The Leprechaun

Non-contact pisses me off more than anything else in racing, not because I pull pit maneuvers (I am part of a crew that frowns on it), but because I feel it's less real and less challenging. The only place I like it is in challenging stunt 'races', as contact can really screw some of those up. As for catch-up and slip stream, I find them tolerable, but they aren't going to make me any better. The choice of class, and less so the track, I have little care what is played, as long as it is somewhat enjoyable and doesn't require extreme stunting capabilities.

No, I'll straight up just use my extensive Burnout skills (from 3 to Paradise, including PSP versions) to score a takedown.

Good defense is a strong offense, right guys?

That said, I play contact off because the last time I raced contact I lost friends on my friends list.

If you have slipstream on, you should also have catchup on.

Without catchup, slipstreaming only serves to allow the leaders to shake n bake their way to an even bigger lead.

but catchup cripples leader speed...

slipstream is equal to all in the race (catchup affects leaders more than followers,,,, i.e unfair)...

just as you say leaders can shake and bake (me and a crew mate did it the other night to keep ourselves in the pole position) but at the same time followers can do the same... if the leader is out on his/her own then they ahve noone to shake and bake with, meaning followers can team up to catch them then slingshot the overtake

but for me catchup = unfair advantage distribution across the field

slipstream = fair and equal advantage distribution across the field

doesnt sound fair when u need to have at least one friend racing with u, it doesnt happen with randoms alot

catchup (without slipstream) makes it harder to keep the lead. makes it possible to get back to the field when lost track. its a bit of a kindergarten race, but its gta an not GT/Forza. i'd prefer it over slipstream anytime.

I'm in a race crew and we do non contact grand prix races. I find it much better than the constant ramming in contact races, it might be less realistic but least any mistake will be your doing. Unless someone knocks those damn lightpoles over.

Catchup is awful. Why punish the guy that gets to the front? Its almost pointless to get a good lead in catchup races.

you dont even need a friend, yea it makes it easier but you can still ss the pack and gain positions, catchup is just ridiculous.. its like F1 putting a speedcap on the leader driver..

at least slipstreaming is a real thing, ive never seen a professional race use differentiated handicaps based on race position.

Id prefer if catchup made it easier to be at the back, than harder to be at the front... the whole dynamic of catchup seems to be coded backwards for my preference. instead of boosting the back of the pack it cripples the front and makes it feel like your stuck in 4th gear with no top end

but each to their own
