just-a-spaz
I know what you're thinking... why would you want to set your PS4 to 720p when the main focus is 1080p for PS4 games. Well, I have to say, GTA V looks better at 720p (to me) because 1080p just looks too sharp. You can see stuff in the background flickering and aliasing all over the place... especially when things have to fade into view... they just have that interlaced look you know? It's too sharp for my eyes. I have the sharpness turned all the way down by the way, and it's still too sharp and the shimmering edges on everything is hard to bare sometimes. Now, I set my PS4 to 720p and yes, the image is a bit softer, but it's much easier on my eyes. I don't see quite the large amount of shimmering anymore on things in a distance. The extra bit of blur helps to smooth it out and almost give it an anti-aliased look. It's not a 100% fix because you can still see some pixel shimmering due to the lower resolution, but the overall picture is easier to look at. Well, try it and let me know what you guys think. It can't hurt anything. By the way... even at 720p, the image is still cleaner and way more detailed than the PS3 version. Just in case anyone thinks you'll get PS3 quality by setting it to 720p. As an added bonus, you don't notice LOD pop-in as much at 720p either. A.O.D.88 and TimboSlice

A.O.D.88
I actually agree with the OP here on the softer/smoother image with 720p! Just like how I noticed that I liked the way Saints Row 2 looked on my 480p Haier TV compared to my 720 HD Samsung. The aliasing was much more noticeable on the HD Samsung. So yeah for me I'll take smoother over sharper image wise. Dutch Psycho
DaRkL3AD3R
I'm kind of curious if setting these consoles to 720p would affect performance? Or does the game still render out at the default target of 1080p and then downsample to 720p for output. Jehannum and sutalu
Vertighost
I have a different setup I only have a 768p tv which is downscaling from 1080p I find it better looking then setting it at 720p and downscaling from 768P, but of course my setup is different and not a full HD TV. But I do have a suggestion, there is a setting on my TV and probably yours called 'Sharpness', could you not set to 1080p and reduce the sharpness setting to smooth it out, and see if it fixes this problem of being too sharp. stonedbazz
Op you seem happy enough with 720p, but have you tried (if your tv supports it) setting both tv and ps4 to full rgb, might improve the picture at 1080 blacknambala
K.Walters
First of all, does the PS4 version has any AA at all? And seconds how would 720p look better than 1080p? The resolution is twice as big so you get less jaggies and in general the game looks better. What you said makes no sense at all to me. What you said makes no sense at all to me. of course it does. it's not great AA but it is there. compare it to the ps3 version and you'll see a bigger difference. it's quite good for things up close but things in the distance look bad. not sure about resolution. lowering it will just make it blurrier overall. it might help mask the jaggies but it won't get rid of them. i guess that's what OP means by it's easier on the eyes. Not gonna see any boost in frame rates from this. If that was the case, we would know about such a huge thing by now.

Crimson Flam3s
I wanted to compare 1080p screenshots to 720p but they both look the same due to downsampling. Would havr been cool if R* game a 720p 60fps option.
MosquitoSmasher
So if i do this on Xbox One too, it should show less aliasing? I really don't want to keep changing the resolution setting, cause for most other games 1080p is fine. But when i have time i'll try it out for V.
