I believe that the hostage taker(s) are trying to force the Australian government to stop its military operatons against the IS, or at least get an opprtunity to spread the IS' views in Australian meda in a debate with the PM. However, what the perpetrators perhaps don't realise is that a far more feasible, and perhaps important, outcome of this operation is the alienation Australian Muslims through an Islamophobic backlash, creating a larger pool of potential IS recruits. Causing a heavy-handed backlash, and subsequent oppression and alienation of a population to aid recruitment and support is a very old tactic of terrorism going back to at least the time of the Sicarii.

 

Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims. Why?

Only they aren't - most terrorists have not been Muslim, even if you are just isolating terrorism to it's most modern form. There has been terrorism committed under the justification of virtually every ideology in existance in the last half-century alone.

But even if we were to take your absurd claim to be true, it still fails to constitute a correlation between Islam and terrorism, as most Muslims still aren't terrorists.

Finally, if I'll give you yet another benefit of the doubt. I'll pretend that all terrorism is indeed Islamic, and despite the fact that most Muslims aren't terrorists, it still constitutes somesort of meaningful correlation, you still have the fact that correlation does not imply causation.

 

Now, I'll leave you with a couple of questions to ponder. They have the advantage over your question in that their initial premise is factual, but the implied correlaton and causation are just as farcical:

- Not all Americans carry out nuclear bombings on cities, but all nuclear bolbings of cities have been carried out by Americans. Why?

- Not all men wearing trousers are 9/11 hijackers, but all 9/11 hjackers wore trousers. Why?

According to Italian mainstream news he was just a well known to authorities lunatic conman who happened to be Muslim.

Injuries are probably from the percussion from the stun grenades probably busted ear drums maybe some scrapes but nobody shot.

Well we can't discount that just yet since he was just taken down and the Police haven't mentioned much to the Media yet, He may not have official ties to ISIS but he could've been radicalized like most folks who symptize them are and he heard their call for "Lone Wolf" attacks and went for it or he was so dissolution that he actually believed he was helping pull off an attack for ISIS and also that he asked for an ISIS flag and wanted the media to know that he was doing that on behalf of ISIS.

(CNN) -- Gunfire erupted early Tuesday at the Sydney cafe where a gunman has been holding hostages.

 

Police could be seen throwing flash-bang grenades into the cafe in video aired by CNN affiliate Seven Network.

 

At least one person has been shot, Australian state broadcaster ABC reported. Medics were performing CPR on two people, the broadcaster reported.

The fate of the hostages and the gunman, identified by an official with direct knowledge of the situation as Man Haron Monis, was unclear

Now don't go off me guys but the Courier Mail released there front page and it said that the terrorist said that if any other hostages tried to escape that he'd 'Eye for an eye' with another hostage. I think that's what triggered the response from the police because the sixth hostage to escape bolted for it and then everything kind of went off after that.
