Pictures on Australian television show at least three people with their hands up against a window, and a black flag with Arabic writing. Hundreds of armed police have sealed off Martin Place in Sydney's central business district. New South Wales police have asked people to avoid the area. An Australian Broadcasting Corporation reporter said that gunfire had been heard at the scene, the Lindt chocolate cafe - but this has not been confirmed. Just because they're middle eastern/islamic/know arabic doesn't make them terrorists. Just because they are holding hostages and acting in a way that spreads terror does makes them terrorists. The flag, if politically motivated, also suggests "terrorism" might be a fair description. Even if the word is trotted out a lot. I was just noticing a development ive seen through the years. I hope things end well. Australia is very high security with these sorts of things so this is big. I'd understand if it was one thing, one guy with no chance but there's more here and there's a possibility they have a bomb. Absolutely horrible situation you'd never expect in Australia. Lost a friend in a tragic accident yesterday and today this.. absolutely distressing, tragic and horrible.
