Ridd
Far cry 2, hands down! Its the best game in an open world setting that nailed the atmosphere and immersion incredibly well and felt very authentic with few other elements ( lack of HUD, handheld map, navigation system, etc. ) woven nicely together with the gameplay to make you feel a part of an intense, gritty african adventure set in a fictional country in Africa. You took the words right out of my fingers.

QuackinAColdOne
Probably GTA IV, I love the grit and grind of New York along with the flashing lights (yes Kanye West, that's a shoutout from me)

Tycek
Was Metro 2033 mentioned? If not then I would definitely add it to the list of the games with the best atmosphere. The post apocalyptic metro tunnels, makeshift weapons and total immersion with gas mask, map, notepad and similar things were just fantastic. Play it in Russian language if you haven't done that yet.
