Good god that train in WD is just awful. Say what you want about V but if you get in front of a train there will be consequences.

To be fair atleast you could ride the train in WD and actually see inside of the train and still be able to interact with pedestrians.

With the first person mode of the new GTA this should have been put in the game, especially since you can see in side of the trains when you walk in but then it cuts into the other camera mode.

yeah, they could have done more interiors I guess for next gen

The interior in the train isn't that bad in first person, but the interaction with other pedestrians can get a bit buggy, but R* switches to the regular cinematic view that they do when the train starts moving out of the station.

The train is bs, when it goes in to cinematic, you can't even skip, why would I wanna watch a slow cable car for seemingly 10 minutes. I'll wait, but let me walk around or use the phone and scare people with weapons. The pedestrians and vehicles make the world breath pretty much only if you keep moving along and don't stop to watch. Yes peds do realistic actions, but they spawn doing them and never stop. Also you can notice people are always walking alone, nobody is ever with another person or Ina group. That makes the city breath. People act like robots that exist only for the player, like when you hit a car or shoot a gun, they ditch their vehicle like it wouldn't be costly for them and their life. That kinda stuff makes it this way.

I love the map in GTA V, but the city just doesn't feel like city. I mean it nails some places but places like downtown should be swarming with cars and pedestrians. Downtown should be the most alive part in the map and it just doesn't feel like that. Gta iv nailed it with time square for example. It was filled with restaurants etc (which you could walk in) and was actually filled with people doing different activities. I don't know. Los santos just doesn't feel like a city in the places where it should feel like a city

Why burger shot and clucking bell are so popular? is it because they have people doing things or because they're good for shoot outs?

I guess that is it. It does feel special to me though when looking through glass to inside and out to the other side of the building. Also if you ever seen the movie "falling down", holding up a burger shot becomes a thing.

Do you actually ever saw Times Square? Go check some pictures before you complain about traffic and NPC density in V.

You're joking, right? Star Junction is a ghost town compared to almost ANY area of Los Santos, and ESPECIALLY when compared to the real place.

I think I saw a tumbleweed in that pic.

I can't believe the things people will say. I mean, it's one thing to prefer one game over the other. Nobody can fault you for that. But to say things that are BLATANTLY FALSE... just wtf.

GTA V has way, way more unique NPC activities you probably never see from your Zentorno at 100+mph while throwing sticky bombs at people. Slow down and explore for a while and you'll see why you're so, so wrong.

Yeah man, slow down a bit so you can see the npc activities such as coughing, sneezing, scratching, crossing the road, screaming, smoking ect. You won't regret it.

Yeah I agree that Times Square is obviously way more packed compared to Star Junction or any area of Manhattan or NYC is way more packed then any area of Liberty City, heck even isolated areas of Staten Island in real life have way more density and stuff going on compared to most areas of Los Santos on the PS4, but GTA IV came out in 2008 on a PS3 obviously the technology is better now. The traffic around the highways and freeways around or in Los Santos is pretty good, and at times when you drive slowly and cruise around in traffic following traffic laws at busy hours sometimes traffic does build up pretty nicely, but areas like Legion Square or what ever it's called in the game or just Downtown Los Santos itself don't really feel packed like they should, and when you factor in that the city part is only a few blocks by blocks big it kind of needs the high amount of density to make the city feel like it's a good size. Although the PC version should fix these issues anyway.

Also another thing that seems to make GTA V's city seem smaller is that the roads are wider, play Watch Dogs or GTA IV and you will notice that the city feels closer together and the streets are more narrow which gives the illusion of more traffic since 10 cars on one side of the road on a narrow 2 car wide street would look more packed compared to 10 cars on one side of the road on a 4 car wide street.

spent 20 minutes with an off-road Dubsta driving slowly in the creeks around Grapeseed and the weed farm, with the cinematic camera, just 'off-roading'....

car porn, sort of... going slowly up and over rocks, through deep mud, sideways on creek beds... was actually pretty fun because the game world looks so good, so alive

with birds cawing and dust blowing across the ground... then it starts to rain... you get mud on the side of the suv

haha it was fun

Radio Off, HUD/Map Off

I like using the cinematic cam and doing donuts and jumps with the Merryweather Mesa over on the sand dunes near the alien guy's trailer too hahaha

or taking a Karin Rebel up the northern-face Raton Canyon path and just making that dangerous trek a slow but visually entertaining hike

It`s totaly OK if you prefer LC over LS but saying that Star Junction felt more alive than LS is almost comic.

Anyone who has ever been to NYC and Manhattan will have a feeling of Star Junction being a ghost town compare to it`s real life counterpart. Especially if we compare it to NG LS.

I know that the density of traffic and peds are far from being the only things that add to the life but they certainly are important.

Saying such things just because you prefer some ingame city to another makes no sense. Personally i like NG LS but that still wont make me say that Grove St. or Chamberlain Hills feel more dangerous than Bohan for example.

So let`s try to be more realistic and self-criticistic when it comes to our favourite thing.

LC was quite populated, especially on happiness island, which my brother calls massacre island because there would be loads to run over or blow up. But like V, parts of the city didn't have much, I guess on PC it was different, but on ps3 and 360, it was populated but only if you stood still for 5 minutes, moving the camera around.

Still amazing, but I'm not sure consoles can handle sh*t loads of peds yet.

I feel Gta v can't get the appreciation it deserves when the majority are online and constantly hectic. With Gta iv, it was different as it was the first Gta on ps3/360 and was a huge step up from San Andreas. Gta v improves upon Gta iv, but its the smaller, finer details people miss.

Man I'm from NY yes obviously Times Square is way more populated to Star Junction and it isn't close, but even somewhat more isolated areas of what is the least popular borough Staten Island are still way more populated compared to pretty much any area of GTA V on the PS4 as well.

The hardware on consoles still isn't up to that level yet to have a city that seems as populated as the real thing, maybe the PC version can do it with some mods or with the traffic and pedestrian density maxed out.

I doubt even the best PC on the market would be capable of having real life-like traffic and NPC density let alone consoles. Only that would take like +1000 GB so i don`t think we`ll see that soon but there is still a huge diference.

In old gen V LS really felt somehow boring, i admit that, despite it looked good it was kind of lifeless compare to real life LA but now on new gen is 50% better and city really feels alive.

The density of peds is greatly increased, the traffic as well, then those flying parts of flower dust, paper pieces, that morning smoggy-foggy air and such all add to better feel of alive environment.

It`s hard to explain, you wont notice this just by looking YT video, you need to play it for yourself if you want to feel that vibe.

IMO;

LC>LG LS

NG LS>LC

Yes, don't forget the first person mode adds a lot to the next gen version of GTA V as well.

But remember the time factor as well, it's a lot easier to impress in games back in 2008 compared to the end of 2014. Maybe in a few years with the top end PC parts we could get really good density in the cities ( maybe not as much as in real life ) but since no other game as far as I know has done that ( have loads of parked cars on the side of the street and loads of traffic on each street with crowds of pedestrians walking down ) if it just comes pretty close it would still be impressive.

Also the GTA games are missing another detail of a city and that is the street signs that you can read, since the streets have names now they should have put these in.

I think the scale of the living breathing world makes you feel something too... I think this is also true for Caida Libra but especially Minor Turbulence

Minor Turbulence is perhaps the most epic-in-scale moments in any video game… The simplicity, the unexpectedness, the escalation, and the scale of witnessing this giant plane as a character from so far above such an expansive realized world…There are other games that do ‘big’ things but often they feel fake or disconnected because the scale just isn’t realistic and immersive. This mission captures that sense of scale in a way that’s so believable… that moment you jump out of the plane is probably the most awe-struck moment in action game… nothing comes close because no other games has world so realized… it just leaves you breathless

Watch the plane crash in either and tell me it doesn't make you feel something, and I'll show you a rock.

You've picked my favourite missions in the whole game there. (Along with Hood Safari)

I enjoyed the heists, but LOVED these missions so much more. Chasing that plane on the Sanchez is the highlight of the game for me. The addition of the FPV just makes it all the more exciting too.

Those are my favourite missions too. The best ones in whole GTA era.

They are over the top alright but they are made so good that "over the top" aspect isn`t as noticeable as it was in Black Project in SA for example.

That`s the point of V`s missions. No matter how much over the top some of them are they still look kinda real.

They did a great deal of work on GTA V, especially the next gen improvements. Each area in GTA V has an unique feeling to it. NPCs are the fun thing to look into. I stalk them often.

Minor Turbulence was epic mission. Those hand gestures Trevor was showing to the Lazer pilot were parody on real life Helios Air event.

"This is captain T telling you to stroke it"

"We can discuss this on a dirt like real men"

"I`m just some lonely man cropping his fields"

lol

And Caida Libre was a f*cking blast as well. The sound effects of crashing plane were incredible.

Those 2 missions were over the top but they were made so well that you can`t loose the illusion of this maybe even being possible. If we compare Minor Turbulence to Freefall in SA, the diference is obvious. In first you are invading the cargo plane with cropduster while you are making fun of gravity in the second. Both are almost sci-fictional but the first one is written so good that it doesn`t kill the whole illusion while in the Freefall you are just like WTF?!

Or the Hood Safari. "you clapped the Clip man"

I love how seamless it is to go underwater while on LG the game would take about a second to load the area whenever you;d go underwater quickly.
