The sound helps, especially on current gen, insect and bird sounds, owls at night. The city sounds quite busy and full of crime at times, car alarms going off and gunshots. A lot of explosions on current gen weirdly lol

Current gen is more alive than last gen but it was far from a barren waste land on last gen, now you just get more peds and traffic, planes flying over the city, helicopters, a lot of parked cars and small extra's.

The animals help too, hearing dogs barking and stuff, birds in the sky, the ocean is surprisingly alive now. There's a lot of different peds too, so you rarely see 3 of the same people talking to each other, and there's a lot of different things people say, talking to them, mostly you get hello as a reply, but sometimes you get a little story, things like that are a good thing.

It could be better though, far from super duper amazing but definitely better than what came before :) Although if it was like the old GTA games, where they talked and walked, where there was 5 of the same ped next to each other, all saying the same thing, I'd still love it because I'm a fan of the old games still.

play the game with the Minimap turned off

seriously... I never ever turn it on anymore unless maybe I have a Properties mission to chase someone

it helps the immersion and overall 'appreciation' of the game world so much

i can't stand the mini-map now, it gets stared at too much

with it turned off, you really appreciate and acknowledge the world more

plus it forces you to learn streets faster haha i can basically drive around LS as good as my IRL hometown now :p

R* have themselves said V's is the most detailed and living world they've ever created.

They say this about every GTA.

Of course they're going to say it's the most detailed and lively world they've ever created. They're not going to say it's under detailed and dead as a door knob are they?

Well of course they're not going to say that, because that's not true.

Buying a game and actually enjoying it? That´s so....1990´s... Pay 60 bucks and you have something you can bitch, moan and hate about for years. That´s what I call a real solid investment. ^^

The super detailed map helps, there's so many things most of us will miss because a lot of the time we're driving or flying or killing. Little things like butterflies, flies flying into a bug zapper. It's as alive as any other GTA, plus more. Not as alive as real life though.

If it was life like, every building would be open, you'd see more than just animals and adults walking around, people opening there doors, postmen delivering things, there's so much it doesn't have, but it has enough for a lot of people. The future of GTA, shooting someone's door off and taking their house by force, then it becomes yours :p

This would be a nice addition to future GTAs - the ability to break into random houses and steal sh*t you can sell. :)

Yes, they say it every time, but every time they make a new GTA, it's more detailed and lively than the last.

I love how interiors are a bandied about as something that creates realism, but honestly, how often do you just walk into a strangers house and start looking around in real life?

Yeah, never!

Jesus, why can't you IV fanboys leave V appreciation threads alone? There are a bunch of threads in the IV section for you guys to hate on V.

Miami, Wayne Daniels' video does not show V in a great extent. It doesn't show peds playing golf, tennis, taking photos from mount chilliad, taking dogs for walks, police men helping other injured police men etc. WD maybe more alive but to say V is life less is stupid. That honour goes to a map like Panau in JC2.

To be fair GTA V has a lot of nice details that the other games don't, but something always feels off putting. For me it's the cardboard cutout feeling of Los Santos and the oversensitivity of the peds.

Honestly I enjoyed Watch Dogs' Chicago more. The peds weren't as annoying and didn't overreact simply from standing near them.

Honestly you should give it another go. Turn of the HUD and go for a walk in FP, when you get it for XB1 of course. :)

IV felt more alive.

I don't think so buddy. Watch the Libery City time lapse without any mods and then compare.

*cough* watch the PC version of the time lapse, recorded with a high-end PC. New LS is packed with huge amount of NPC's, but for me, the EFLC version of LC felt more alive (especially in TBoGT).

People buy hot dogs, read newspapers, stand in-line waiting to get in a night club, etc.

IV PC sets a high bar in terms of liveliness of the game world, and from what I see from YT videos, and actually playing it on my friend's PS4, all I can say that it only managed to get on-par.

Can't wait until V PC.

For consoles its really good, on PC it'll be annoyingly amazing.

I'm actually thrilled seeing both PS4 and X1 can actually give all those extra peds, given their CPU's aren't actually good.

I really don't see how this is any less realistic than a city without a single enterable restaurant. I suppose walking into a stranger's house isn't something someone would normally do, but hey it's technically possible.

Moreso than finding a single city any where in the world with restaurants that never open.

I think we'll get more interiors in DLC.

Would it even be possible for every building to be open? unique and detailed, in a city the size of LS or LC?

Because they weren't doing anything. They weren't scripted to be annoying, they weren't scripted to overreact. They were scripted to walk along the street and use their phones, or stand still, carrying out one of about 20 idle routines. That's pretty lifeless compared to V, IMO.

In V, they're reactive, they actually engage with the player. In WD, they do f*ck all and it's boring. They're 'less annoying' because they have nothing to do.

I don't see how it is unrealistic to not have an enterable restaurant, Fast Food is a big thing in LA but so are liquor stores and other kind of fast service shops, so you're trying too hard here buddy. You're basically telling me that people in Liberty City rely on Fast Food 24/7? No wonder half of the city if infested with fat f*cks.

Playing GTA V on next-gen makes me feel like ''I'm there'' for real. It's hard to describe but everything feels more 3D. It no longer feels like I'm playing in a world of cartoon boxes.

Geez...........................I love this game, I have great amounts of fun with my son playing online together. If I come here and complain about something, I am a hater. If I say something good, that makes me a fanboi?

I guess I am getting to old to understand this generation of gamers. Is there a handbook or a pdf file explaining all of this that someone could point me towards? :panic:

Good god that train in WD is just awful. Say what you want about V but if you get in front of a train there will be consequences.
