Probably the only thing worse would be swimming into a school of box jellyfish, or stepping on a stone fish. Besides of all the unfortunate things going on in your country, pretty much every creature wants to kill you, though it looks like a beautiful place, I always wanted to see the great barrier reefs.

Go to the nearby Philippines instead! Despite corrupt government, ridiculous amounts of every single pollution, poverty so bad America's poor looks like the 1% compared to us, and terrorists down south, it's more fun in the Philippines!

 

Also, it's always summer, save for the times when we have typhoons, which is about once a month at least.

This is my issue...

I have 3 pet tarantulas and 2 snakes, I am the kind of person that'd be like, "Oooohhhhh a Snake!" and get bit and die.

Also, It's hot as f*ck there. I am Canadian, I prefer my moderate whether and snow over +40 Celsius everyday of the year.

Honestly, the only sexual violence in the game was against Floyd.

 

Now last I checked, Floyd was male.

The recent one was here (Aus), new age feminazis starting a petition to rid the game off the shelves, which I see it as illegal censorship.

 

I say illegal censorship because they're not the government, they're a minority.

There was a post somewhere (can't find it now) where the person was noting the the dangerous change in rhetoric that has occurred -- the new objections are more insidious because they are built on new memes regarding the programming of impressionable minds with non-progressive ideas.

 

It's ironic that the original hysteria against GTA III was from right-wing hardcore Christians worried about the moral corruption of the innocent children using a video game crime simulator, but in the present day era of hyperbolic political correctness and hypersensitivity to any idea not part of the knee-jerk liberal left dogma, the justification is specifically violence against women as a trope that is popular to use against video games these days. Strange bedfellows . . .

I say hit them with cold, hard, facts.

 

In a bare-bones playthrough of the game, avoiding all extra side-stuff, there has been no violence against women besides that bastard I wanted to shoot in GTA 4. AFAIK the game is mostly dudes dying.

 

Regarding Vanilla Unicorn, all cutscenes there avoid any hardcore sexual thing going on. Franklin's cutscene there was him just talking with his ex-GF, and Trevor practically only stays in the manager's area. Sure, Trevor has a switch scene chasing women, but Trevor's character development heavily implies that he only does this for attention (note: that weird-ass soup thing he ate before the Paleto heist, which he then proceeded to throw up as soon as everyone left).

 

 

So. Violence? Deffo. Against anyone in particular? Devin Weston, sure, but not a specific race/gender/etc.

I'd have more (actually just SOME) sympathy for these women complaining about gta's hookers if they actually formed a solid argument but the way they talk about the game, it's like they're not even referencing GTA5. As anyone who's actually played the game will tell you, AT NO POINT IN ANY MISSION are you told to specifically hurt/kill or torture a street walker. I empathise with what they're seeing on YouTube and how they must feel about those videos but really, what they're seeing is nothing more than (one) player's free choice happening. The killing-the-hooker-to-get-your-money-back thing all started in GTA3 really; where it was an actual beneficial act for the player. It's SO much easier to regain health via other means in GTA5 however that using hookers is actually detrimental to you! Let's see, piss around for 20mins finding/using/spending money on a hooker or drink a can of Sprunk for a dollar? Hmmm, tough choice lol.

 

Sensationalism never lasts in these situations anyway; when R* made Bully the press had a field-day banging on and on about how the game is some kinda bully-simulator, regardless of the fact NO ONE had played it - it was still in development when the tabloids caught its scent. So before the game even came out R* changed its name to Cannis Canem Edit (Latin for... Heh, Google it!) and it launched without ANY media backlash at all! I guess most of the evangelical idiots can't speak Latin.

 

After a year it was re-released on 360 and even the Wii with its original name, Bully, by which time the mainstream media were busy chasing some other thing that was the obvious cause for all the wrong in the world.

 

As it did with GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas etc etc, this will all blow over within 6-8 months.

No, I didn't take out my weapon at all, because I was trying to switch to passive mode.

 

EDIT: And I can't level strength unless I actually beat up people, and that rarely happens in missions.

Offended people are funny. It's annoying when things become sanitised, such as Hitman: Absolution (killer nuns trailer, sexism row, nuns' role nerfed in story).

 

It's depressing to see the whiners being listened to so often, with a special mention to the religious whiners to whom everyone kowtows because they're afraid of them.

As much as I've issues with some of the content of the game, I do also have issues with censorship in a wider context..

 

However.. my main issue is that a game that is clearly designed for adult players is plagued by children playing it.. that's a different argument though... and I'm not about to get all Helen Lovejoy any time soon either...

I don't see the big deal. It's not been banned from anywhere so it's all just free publicity. For every person that says, "This game is too violent and disgusting", there will be a person that thinks, "Oh really? I must buy it.".

 

It's been taken off shelves at some stores, but that's down to the stores and is not the same as being banned. They're just farming their customers off to someone else and accepting a financial hit because they feel it's the right thing to do. So what?

 

Controversy has been part of the marketing strategy of GTA since the first version, and it always will be.
