GTA "Controversy"

An activist against sex and violence in video games. What an utter c*nt of a sh*tbag.

Most, if not all video games containing extreme violence and sex are marketed to adults. So I have no idea why this guy against it.

Although, there are dumb as f*ck parents who buy certain adult video games for their children, see the content, then blame developers. The only person to blame is their questionable/sh*tty parenting. Then want society to parent their children by censorship (censorship is disgusting) of media, ruining it for the adults.

No. Parent your own child by taking modern parenting lessons or don't have children at all if you're gonna be incompetent.

Censorship/editing ruins everything.

The guy was against anything, thank god he was looked upon as a loony tune, because if he had his way there would no profanity in movies, no profanity in public, no nothing, a true communist through and through.

I honestly never found the violence in this game to be specific to either gender. You mow down various faceless NPCs regardless of gender for the entire game.

Take 2 C.E.O Karl Slatoff did make a statement about this.

"It's one thing for someone to not want to buy a piece of content, which is completely understandable," Slatoff said. "And that's really the solution. If you don't like it and it's offensive to you, then you don't buy it. But for a person or a group of people to try to make that decision for millions of people... We have 34 million people who bought Grand Theft Auto, and if these folks had their way, none of those people would be able to buy Grand Theft Auto. And that really just flies in the face of everything that free society is based on. It's the freedom of expression, and to try to squelch that is a dangerous and slippery slope to go down. So it's really more disappointing for us in that regard than it is in the context of our business. Our business is going to be completely unaffected by this; it doesn't make a difference to us. At the end of the day though, it's not something you want because it's a poor leadership decision."

you shouldn't feel sorry for them, every company has had to deal with the same problems, thing is, Rockstar doesn't give a sh*t.

After reading the jack Thompson wiki, it seems in a few instances T2 made a few out of court settlements.

the fact that they specify that the violence is against women makes it worse, playing GTA5 you will kill hundreds more men in the game that women. this is corrupt feminists only seeing 1 side and refusing to look at the other. if you really wanted to make a genuine petition against GTA5 you would talk about violence in general, not specifically women. funny how men can get hurt and killed countless times in video games with no problem but the minute there are women being hurt in a game everyone goes mental.

The usual crap. GTA is supposed to be an open world, realistic game for over 18's. I think controversy helps rockstar to achieve that goal.

His view on mostly everything mainstream, exceeds even the most extreme ways of the Amish lifestyle. If he was an activist during the 50's when the Honeymooners was popular, he would've tried to sue CBS and Paramount, for how Ralph Kramden goes through erratic moments of demoralizing Alice, and projecting that way of life to the mainstream public as ok.

Those ridiculous controversies with GTA have existed since the beginning of the series

this is surely old news to R* and they will probably not even care much

Rockstar doesn't really care that much. As many pointed out this been around since gta 3 hell even 2. My grandmother still thinks gta or any m rated game is evil.

So once again GTA is controversial, this time for torture and violence towards women. It's been targeted with petitions and calls for censorship and banning.

What do you think this means for the future of GTA? How do you think R* should respond? (And how do you think they will actually respond?)

What should we as gamers do with this third, or is it fourth, crusade against our culture?

you're still young, aren't you? Like around 13-16 years old???

This has ALWAYS been an issue with GTA. For year and years now.... this is nothing new. So to answer your question, as far as the future of GTA..... nothing will change. It will stay the course.

Let's revisit Manhunt.

manhunt is badass

And did not have nearly as much backlash.

Idiots tend to hate what is popular. Hence the majority of this forum.

^^ Censorship shouldn't exist in 2014.

I lol'd:

If some wacked-out adult wants to spend his time playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, one has to wonder why he doesn't get a life..

Of course it shouldn't. No matter how stupid or "offensive" something is, it should be publicly available and the person who said/did it should be held responsible for it. Censoring it isn't going to change a thing. Censorship is essentially sugarcoating the world… Worked nicely in Soviet Russia, but not in the 21st century, please…

How will Rockstar respond? They will go even further over the top. GTA 6 will introduce us to Trevor's evil twin.

No publicity is bad publicity. Controversy is precisely what made the GTA 3D series into a multi-billion dollar product line.

The GTAV story is at its most awkward when it tries to tries to make a sleazy hypocritical pass at pretending to have a social conscience, like that bullsh*t torture mission.

As a feminist I find no problem at all with GTAV. It's all in how you play the game. A player may be sexist but the game itself is not nor does it promote sexism or violence towards women specifically, IMO. Although people that don't actually play the game or video games in general will have difficulty realizing this and that is unfortunate.

R* will just sell more games due to publicity...and let's be honest....most of us are totally okay with violence towards women...I certainly don't make any difference when it comes to violence...I'll punch a dude in the face just as I'd roundhouse-kick a stupid bitch!

yep

Uh, no, I hope most of us are not okay with violence towards women. Speak for yourself, I'm definitely not okay with real life violence towards women, or men for that matter. Unless you're talking about in-game violence then it's a different matter. Regardless that is a poorly worded comment.

Apparently, there has not been any close up female death on screen in the whole gta.

Catalina died in helicopter and it didn't even look as if she's in there. Molly got juiced by jet engine, yet they're using a long shot on that. We only had female enemies to kill in VCS and they're only female beach-walker NPC.

I really don't know where they are pointing at. Plus, they're alright with male death but not with female deaths? Get the f*ck outta here.
