rockstars solution to unknown network error disconnects

so like everyone else, i have had constant unknown network error disconnects on ps4 ever since i started playing on it...this is rockstars answer to my ticket:

We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with GTA Online on your next gen console. In an attempt to resolve this issue, we would like to perform a rollback on your character's save migration. This process removes the save data that you have migrated from your old-gen (PS3/Xbox 360) console to your next-gen (PS4/Xbox One) console.

Please note that this means that performing this process will lose all progress that has been obtained since the initial transfer. If you agree to these terms and would like to attempt this step, please respond to this email with the following information:

  • Your RGSC name:
  • Your RGSC e-mail:
  • Your DoB as it is listed in your RGSC account:
  • PSNid/Gamertag of both next-gen and old-gen account:
  • Date of Transfer:

Once we receive this information and have verified all the the information provided, we will initiate the rollback process.

We also ask that you remain off of the GTA Online network for the duration of this process as this can cause issues with the transfer.

should i let them do it? i really dont see how this could have anything to do with the unknown network error disconnects, especially since i transferred my character with no problems or loss of anything...but im f*cking at wits end with the connection errors...

Will they allow you to transfer again?

How much progress have you made since the transfer?

Have you done the port forwarding?

i asked them how that would fix the problem and this is their response

Typically when you have had issues since the transfer, the issue lies within your actual character transfer.

You can confirm this if you have access to another PS4. If you were to login to another PS4 with your account and experienced the same issues, but the owner of the console is not experiencing those issues then it is most likely the transfer.

Have you done the port forwarding?

i would hope so but i am just about to ask them how i re transfer after they do whatever they are going to do

not so much that it would be a problem to do this (if it actually fixes the issue)

yes i have port forwarded and put the ps4 in a dmz

If it's legitimate Rockstar support you've been communicating with and not some guy on Twitter, absolutely go through with it.

If you want to keep playing the game anyway. I can see how it's possible the transfer bugged out and now you're stuck getting disconnected because of it.

yeah its rockstar support. if the transfer bugged out why did i keep all my cars, money, rank, and weapons? i want to let them try it because im really annoyed with this sh*t...but i dont want them to lose my character.. i was hoping maybe the new patch might resolve these connection problems because i know im not the only one experiencing them, so maybe i should just wait for that...

Hell no.

I get disconnected every once in a while but i stay in my own server. I've been in servers where half the people get dropped at the exact same time. No way this is due to characters.

wow thats a load of bullsh*t right there...

in a normal day i can receive the visit of the unknown error 2-3 times.

PLOT TWIST... im still on PS3!

i dont see how a rollback would solve the obvious server issues they are still having.

what they gonna do if i contact them? rollback my character to october 2013!!!

oh god these people are retards

me:

well unfortunately i dont have another ps4...can i create a sub account on the ps4, create a brand new character and then see if the issue persists? is that something i can try?

also if i do let you perform this rollback, how do i go about transferring again? i thought you could only transfer once? i dont want to lose my character. i firmly believe this issue is with your servers...are you sure that it isnt a problem on your end?

them:

You should be able create another PSN ID under your primary plus account.

Regarding the transfer - once the rollback is done, you would be able to transfer again. The option will come back.

Regarding the server issues - if it was a server issue, you should have been able to play sporadically, but from what I understand you never have been able to play a proper game. I will attach the Network TS steps below if you would like to try those first.

  1. Check all the physical devices on your network to ensure they are plugged in and powered on.
  2. Perform a connection test on each device connected to the network.

Note: In order to better understand your network and how it works please see the information below.

NAT Types
Open
Moderate
Strict

Open NATs can connect to any of the three types. --> Probably the least common type
Moderate can only connect to open and moderate. --> Probably the most common type
Strict can ONLY connect to open.
Strict NATs are a difficult problem with peer-to-peer games. Since most people don't have open NATs, the player with a strict NAT won't be able to find many joinable games.

Also, if the player with a strict NAT does manage to join a game, if another player with a moderate NAT joins later, the player with the strict NAT gets kicked out.

The problem is even worse since it is sometimes difficult for software (i.e. Games for Windows Live) to detect which NAT type it is running behind, and can often report that the player has a moderate NAT when they actually have a strict NAT.

Another problem is that sometimes the ISP (Internet Service Provider) is also NAT'd which often means even if you have a direct connection to the internet (without a router/firewall), the ISP still acts as a strict NAT.

Port Forwarding

The following ports are beneficial to have open for Online console gaming:

TCP: 53, 80, 443, 465, 983, 1863, 3074, 3478-3479, 3480, 5223, 10070-10080
UDP: 53, 88, 1863, 3074, 3478-3479, 3658, 10070

If you need assistance with opening these ports, please refer to the following website for more information (you will need to know your router brand and model, as the website guides are based on specific routers)

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Here are some additional tips that have helped many players improve their connectivity:

  1. Make sure your router's firmware is upgraded the latest version (very important).
  2. Unplug your router for 10 minutes and plug it back in. Some older routers degrade in performance over time until it is rebooted, similar to a PC.
  3. Disable any firewall or other network filtering for the game.
  4. Enable uPnP (universal plug and play) on your router.
  5. If you don't care about security, enable DMZ (de-militarized zone) on your router for your PC's address. This turns off all of your router's firewall features for that specific PC.
  6. Contact your ISP and ask them what your DNS setting should be.

Direct Connection/Power Cycle

If you are still having issues connecting to the online servers after trying the above steps, try connecting your broadband modem directly to the console or PC on which you are playing this game. At this point, please disconnect your Broadband modem from power for Five (5) minutes. After this time has elapsed, plug the modem back into power and allow the normal power-up cycle to finish.

Information Needed to Move Forward

If this final step does not resolve your issue, please plug a PC directly into your modem and provide us screen shots from the following locations:

  1. www.speedtest.net
  2. www.whatsmyip.org
  3. www.pingtest.net
  4. ipconfig (Windows + R > type "cmd" without quotes > hit okay > type "ipconfig" without quotes > press ENTER )

Even easier way to try to see if it's just your system, create a new account and see if it still happens.

If it does... Might actually be your network settings.

If you have NOT changed your network settings and things were working properly then there is nothing wrong on your side.

If turning off your console and router for a minute doesn't help, then there is nothing wrong on your side.

If you have done a re-install of the game and that hasn't helped, then there is nothing wrong on your side.

The only way something is wrong on your side is if your router or console are defective or dying.

I'm on the PS3 and started getting unknown connection errors last week.

I did nothing to try and fix the issue, I no longer have the issue.

OP, in short: DO NOT DO THAT!

I've started playing on XBOX 360, played on PS3 with my friends account, changed 3 ISPs (2 different routers, one ISP with direct cable to console) in Russia and moved to Germany with XBOX ONE. Guess what? Unknown network error. According to R* logic, the whole world is broken.

There is nothing wrong on your side, if it's not affecting your other activities.

Rockstar's idea

Hey guys, lets wipe all of your progress so it will not solve your unknown network issue since it is definitely not our sh*tty dollar store servers that are causing the network issues !!! Starting over from scratch will fix everything because blatantly ignoring our servers and your internet connection will work !!!

whoever at r* thought of that idea is either:

high as hell

the biggest troll

a complete idiot

me:

"Regarding the server issues - if it was a server issue, you should have been able to play sporadically, but from what I understand you never have been able to play a proper game."

I can play missions and races just fine. its when i get into free mode that i encounter an unknown network error and get disconnected

them:

Thank you for letting me know. That does help narrow it down. What happens when you try playing on character slot 2?

me:

i have the same problem on both character slots. i just got on slot 2 and was in free mode and got the unknown network error disconnection after approximately 5 minutes of play. is there anyway you can see my last session and you could tell me exactly how long it was after i entered the session to when i was disconnected?

them:

Unfortunately I do not have access to any sort of session information.

Have you been able to play under a different PSN ID yet? I would really like to get this issue narrowed down for you.

me:

no i dont have the time right now to create another psn id. i didnt have this problem on ps3 the day before i transferred and my network is still setup completely the same so i dont understand why i am having an issue on ps4.

can you escalate this to another level of support because i firmly believe the problem lies with your servers and i want to know if i can expect the next update to fix these problems or if i should just return my game and system

them:

Yes, I will escalate the ticket at your request. I do hope that you are able to play soon.

i wonder what the next retard is going to suggest...

It's not your connection. It's their servers bc I get the unknown connection time to time and I can play it on PS3 just fine along with other games that have online.

What an absolute bizarre way to conduct a business do they think were really that dunmb or they really not give a flying f#ck , they tried passing off consoles freezing in the same half arse way except now they are asking people to really go out of there way just so they can avoid having to solve a problem that either they or part of there company are responsible for , lazy bastards. This game is wasted on their incompetence

CrysisAverted

Implement dedicated servers, allow players to either pay for hosting themselves or others to set up servers themselves and maybe pay for it with occasional ads, excellent cheater protection and great connections

Don't implement them, its like dial up is making a comeback, lag lag lag + costing R* more money

I guess R* is just stupid

This is unbelievable still. When the console freezing was taking place there was a problem with world wide consoles and routers.

Same BS, they are not willing to admit an error on their end. I have zero errors while playing any other game.

Rant

Calm down, it's just a game. Glitching in a videogame makes no one a loser in real life. If anyone has issues, then it's people like you that take this sh*t too serious. You remind me of the infamous legits vs. glitchers forum conflict in 2013, aka. GTAF civil war. The butthurtness of the legits was incredible.

OT: I've had unknown network errors occuring a lot too. Could barely play 10 mins in a public lobby without getting kicked by one. I did port forwarding, exposed host (DMZ), router restart, reinstalling game, checked my NAT type (it's type 2/moderate). Nothing helped. I figured out that as soon as I'm near more than a few players, my clock started ticking. The game started lagging, players and NPCs were teleporting. So I stayed out of LS, since there are the most players most of the time. On countryside it was way better, network errors were leaving me alone most of the time. But it sucks to play alone or only with one player here and one player there.

I remembered reading on here that connection issues don't occur that often in free aim lobbies. I thought okay, why not give it a try after I've tried this and that without any success. I switched to free aim (I'm in supported free aim lobbies now or whatever it says in the English version of the game) and, oh praise the lord, I could exist in LS for hours without getting kicked by an network error. It's still lagging every now and then, I still see the occasional teleporting player, but I've seen that on Xbox 360 too (there I barely experienced connection issues, by the way), and network errors are still occuring sometimes (had 3 today), but now I'm back at a point where I can say that I enjoy the game again. Maybe it's coincidence, I should switch back to auto aim lobbies and check if it's better there now too.

Check assisted aim, mate. ( INB4 "I'm not your mate, pal" ) It's back to normal for me right now, but this thing is not stable. Actually, there is nothing you can do. As you may read above, my case pretty sums it up.

I believe, the entire lobby is based on P2P technology with all the consequences. And R* "cloud service" is.... let's say unreliable.
