American Viking

GTA V has many great firearms, but Vice City had a better assortment of melee weapons.

Best, Vice City
Variety, retro-ish, effective, decent punch and asthetic.

Worst, GTA V
Mostly because they wasted their resources. Max Payne 3 has some of the best feeling and functioning weapons of any game I've ever played. V has ineffective CoD casual sh*t. No recoil, they sound like muted little "pop"s, smoke is minimal, and the asthetics are grossly modern. Maybe that's just personal preference, but I don't like using plastic self-defense pistols and gun-metal tacticool AKs over rag-tag street guns.

Edit: I think you should also specify V's launch state weapons. Some of the addon guns feel okay but are also completely out of place like the Chicago Typewriter or the firework launcher.

GTA V has the best variety of guns, my favorite assortment of different weapons in general though would be Vice City.

As for worst, GTA 3's since it had a pretty small amount of weapons in comparison to future games.

Best is TBOGT and worst is maybe III since it is so limited but at the time they were great, That explosive shotgun in TBOGT might be my favorite weapon in the series. V is a close second.

I liked some of the weapons in GTA IV, but I think that Vice City has the best variety. I'm surprised we still haven't seen a revolver return since.

GTA IV & V have a variety of weapons, so does San Andreas, but I think Vice City has the best set among all of them. Those were fun.

Worst, well GTA Advance, definitely. Did those weapons even hit?

I voted for VCS with Vice City as a close second. The basic pistol was excellent and the M16 near unstoppable. The selection of submachine guns were also on the money and had the best incarnation of UZI out of all the titles. And if you count fists as weapons, the hand to hand combat was superior.

Why did you guys even consider GTA Advance? it's even BC game.

Best : I love SA, #dildofreak

Worst : GTA III, awful set of weapons. Nothing more

Best: TBoGT. Can't beat the OP explosive shotgun. I LOVE that gun.

Worst: Can't really decide, so my vote goes to Advance.

Best: San Andreas. All weapons were very fun and varied.

Worst: GTA IV. (base game) No variety or creativity at all. EFLC fixed this though.

If is it about how the weapon look then V obviously, but when it comes to it`s sounds i`d say IV/EFLC.

While V has the most realistic looking weapons they have really ridiculously unrealistic sounds, that`s for sure.

But IV/ELFC has the most perfect GTA gun sounds.

The mix of those two would be great.

Best: TBoGT. Can't beat the OP explosive shotgun. I LOVE that gun.

Worst: Can't really decide, so my vote goes to Advance.

Agree, that`s got to be the best weapon in whole GTA franchise. Shooting with those explosive shells was unique experience which you just can`t get bored of.

Edit: i`d prefer quality over quantity when it comes to GTA games` weapons. Most of the titles have too many weapons but only few of them are actually effective. I don`t need 25 pieces if 20 out of them are an absolute crap.

Rockstar should really do some research on real life weapons before embarasing themselves with it`s silly sounds and ridiculously low stoping power. Let`s face it, 90% of GTA weapons are way underpowered compare to real life.

In real life even a 9mm handgun with classic FMJ rounds is deadly and 1 good placed shot is ussualy enough to disable a person or even puting them in the ground. While in GTA a 9mm is like an airsoft gun with almost no stoping power.

I think the best real life characteristic had .357 MAG revolver from VC which was almost always 1-shot kill no matter which bodypart you shot someone in.

Which is the case with real life .357 most of the time. Especially with hollow point rounds.

I`m really disapointed with weapon performance and sounds in GTA games. Ridiculously underpowered in it`s performance plus having totaly unapropriate sounds.

I know it`s not a shooting game only but i`d still excpect a little more research by R* on guns. At least in latest titles.

Vice City criminal

Best: Vice City. A good arsenal of weapons without being too over the top.

Worst: Advance. same weapons as GTA 3 but with no accuracy whatsoever.

In terms of options, I'd pick GTA V for best and IV for worst. At least III gets excused for being the first of its kind, plus gun-sounds are pretty cool (specially that AK). IV's limited choices and limited ammo was so annoying and one of the reasons why I didn't like the game very much.

For a combination of looks, sounds and options, I'd choose VC/LCS/VCS since they all offer the same with a gun model or two changed for the PSP games. (Ruger sound used for AK and Tec-9 for Scorpion SMG) LCS would get the edge because it has the improvements that it shares with VCS (auto + free aim for all) as well as awesome melee weapons. VCS ruined the use of melee weapons because Vic automatically stands still when using one, which also took away the ability to take off heads with the katana.

how is gta 3 more limited than gta 1? In gta 1 you only had 3 weapons!

Best: GTA IV and Vice City. GTA IV for sounds and design. Vice City for melee.

Worst: GTA V. Too many useless, gimmick weapons. Then again GTA V is all about quantity over quality.

TLAD and Vice City Stories had the best weapons, I'd imagine the worst was Advanced as that game is the drizzling sh*ts. V has good weapons in theory, you'd think a street sweeper and a double barrel shotgun would be satisfying, but they aren't. I do like the Tommy Gun and Revolver though. Surprised it's doing so well in the poll.

I think VC had the best weapons as many of them were useful, well-designed and balanced.

For me, the worst weapons has GTA V, because of their military design which may fit GTA Online, but not singleplayer. Though, it would be the best if there were only street looking weapons in both SP and MP. Also, a few of them are useless (like the Firework Launcher).

Grand Theft Auto IV, as always, is the best. Grand Theft Auto III is not so bad either. I don't need all these wacky, over-the-top, stupid guns as I've never used them.

Good Hombre

VC had the best weapons IMO. I used to love the M60, it made me feel like Rambo, hope they bring it back in the next GTA.

I'll take the Flamethrower, Molotov Cocktails, ElectroGun, Regular and Silenced Machine Gun in 2 any day. Besides, the Kill Frenzies and vehicle shops

where you can upgrade your car with vehicle machine guns and land mine dispersal systems are awesome. GTA 2's weapons it is for me.

I've never cared for the weapons and their unrealistic graphics and sounds in San Andreas, which really blemish the game for me. Then again, the rocket

launchers in San Andreas are cool, and I would take San Andreas' weapons over firework launchers any day.

Excalibur Voltaire

Best: GTA V, A lot of realistic and Fun weapon with Variety, and not to mention they are animated, Weapon in V seems balanced within Quality and Quantity

Worst: GTA IV, Very few Boring weapon, Lack of Animation and Variety, not to mention it's ugly look, Weapon in IV seems to not have any Quality nor Quantity. Another disappointing thing in IV

I don't know why many chose V as the worst. Sure it has some over the top guns but most of them are for the wacky Online mode and it's not like you have to use them but the option is nice. I think V's the best with the variety and the customization. With VC coming second. Vanilla IV (without DLCs) is probably the one of the worst worst. Unvaried, some sounds are weird (Glock and the ARs) Could have been nicer to have few more options or customization.
