NextGen Minimap Mechanics are not very player friendly

introduction: i gave the new radar a fair amount of time to get used to it. i dont see my enemies anymore when i snipe and look through the scope, i need to unscope and press dpad down for 2 or 3 times, i dont know where people are, unless i press dpad down 2 or 3 times. bountys are also not visible in the distance so unlike before where the red dots just popped into my i while driving, i have to press dpad down 2 or 3 times just to check for bounties. lets grab a plane, any jets flying around? lets pressdpad down 2 or 3 times. TWO OR THREE f*ckING TIMES, thats no solution, it has to change.

 

 

i think its safe to say that absolutely NOBODY wants those job icons in the minimap. i dont even want to see that annoying blue marker in the gameworld.

 

 

 

on lastgen we had the growing problem of not even seeing the icons properly cause of all the jobicons.

the map is full of them. instead of just being able to turn them off, rockstar still wants to show them by all costs.
so their idea is to only show nearby players and jobs.

 

 

now i dont know how others think about it, but i like to see all player blips. so the easiest way would be to just turn job blips off and show those 30 blips!

I just have the extended minimap enabled all the time. It'll be annoying at first but you get used to it very quickly.

 

The normal PS3 minimap always made me claustrophobic, but what you're describing sounds even worse.

 

I'd like the blue icons to go away from the map and the gameworld too.

I used to love the PS3 one, hit down and get the extended one instantly. I used this a lot!
Exactly as the OP, it does my head in having to tap down 2 or 3 times, not exactly handy in the heat of the moment in a chase or whatever.

I might give it a go having the extended one up all the time and see how that is

The fact that you now can't extend the minimap when sniping pretty much kills it for me. Extended or off is the way to go. Also, I'm sure that you can see player blips on the regular minimap until they go far away enough to go off the extended one, which would make sense. If they're off the extended one then they won't render, unless of course you're looking at vehicles.

 

I did get used to tapping down one more time though. It's not really a hardship, but I can see why people don't like it. Another case of adding something without any options.

I agree that they could remove the jobs icons, almost everyone uses their phones to access missions and stuff

extended map is ok, problem with that are the playernames and eventually close range fights.

and turning of the names would leave me with no quick info about who is who.

The new map is terrible, I was taking pictures of my cars yesterday in Free Roam ( I know Invite only ) and guys kept driving up and shooting me, I didn't have time to react with the small radar.

 

I'll try the extended, totally forgot about that option

Yeah, no player names on the extended. But that forces you to get better at mentally tracking people.

 

Use the 'highlight player' on the person you most want to keep an eye on.

 

In close range it can be confusing - their blips are virtually on top of yours. Still, that's a small disadvantage compared to the benefits.

I would *LOVE* it if we could toggle extended and minimap, rather than just extend it for a few seconds. That would solve all my issues with it, for the exact reason you give. Extended when up close is useless.

thats what annoyed me day one in online... the minimap being either there forever or only a few seconds, not being able to just open AND close it.

The new minimap even in expanded form is incredibly annoying; plenty of times I've tried to locate a blip and found it's not where it appears. Blips showing things off the edge of the minimap should be faded or something, so it's apparent they're not just at the boundary of the map.

those double boundaries with a faded mapframe, looks like the blip is just coming into mapspace, but it doesnt. thats also probalby not gonna stay forever like that.

well yes, having a few stealth mechanics would be nice. but thats all scubadaves business, he has a blip topic. the thing is, its not that about if u can see them on the minimap, its about generally knowing where people are. this is not the point of this thread, its about this mixture of useless info and no info in the minimap...

I hate hate hate everything about the new mini map, the near impossibility of tapping it open extended in a hurry and the way it works if you do get it open before you die. The black and white main map can die a horrible death with it.

 

The same idiot that made the camera open with a double tap clearly had his incompetent hands on this.

I am not a fan of the new map either, On the previous gen. if someone was outside your map area their blips would sit right on the border edge of the map but now they sit a little inside the border often giving me the impression they are only a few blocks away. I don't like the extended for all the reasons mentioned previously; it takes up to much screen space, is useless in CQB and the names overlapping is a ball-ache.

This, this, so much THIS! The fact that the blips are inside the map region makes it seem like they're coming into the map range and are on the streets close to you. It's a classic example of form over function.

I have yet to use a job corona to enter a job but I have accidentally walked into them more times than I care to count so I can agree I wouldn't mind them being removed completely.

 

I'm still on last gen so I can't comment on the new radar but can say that I would love an option to take all the job icons off my radar.

Does anyone know how to remove the player name tags from the extended map view?

Don't know how and can't seem to find an option to turn them off.
