Why the heists will be another major disappointment when they come out

Well for most people on here, not for me as unless the heists surprise me and are really good, I would probably not play them anyway.

1) The waiting period, R* announced heists in the online game play video before GTA V released as far as I know R* never really mentioned what heists would be about, but this caused a lot of speculation and rumors and people wondering where the heists are for over a year. This is going to lead to a lot of disappointment if the heists are basically just another glorified deathmatch, capture, or mission mode.

2) The online community, this is a major one. Most video games that are online have awful communities. Earlier today I was playing Fight Night Champion a boxing game that is over 3 years old, with about 500 to 2000 active players at a given time. The only games that I have really played before with good online communities are simulator games that are not that popular and don't attract many kids with short attention spans. Even in pretty much the only semi-realistic boxing game on the market that was released years ago it still has an awful online community.

Yet, only about 1 in 5 matches would be somewhat realistic or reasonable boxing matches, for every good match you get in that game you will find some kid who ninja picks ( showing a mediocre boxer and switching over to the most overpowered guy after you pick your guy ), guys who spam the same punch non stop ( throwing non stop power straights with maxed out guys hoping for a 1 punch knockout ), guys who have no idea about the sport of boxing and just mash buttons or the joystick, guys who waste time by watching the cutscenes in between rounds every time, guys who watch the entrance to the ring every time guys who watch the knockdown replays 3 times guys who run around the ring and disengage from the fight and sit on the ropes and guys who talk sh*t in between rounds or foul and headbutt or low blow you when your beating them and that's in the head to head mode. In the mode with created fighters, you will have guys who make fighters with the max height, reach and max out his straight punch stat and only ever throw that punch hoping that they catch you coming in and 1 punch KO you. You will have guys who create entirely unrealistic looking and acting boxers.

That is in a boxing game that is over 3 years old, boxing a sport that caters to older mature fans who actually like fighting and the game is meant to have you think tactically, yet a large percentage of the community is still sh*t and it's an old game as well.

Now, compare that to a game like Grand Theft Auto V that probably has a million online players at a given time, that is a highly popular game that many kids play, a game that allows the player to go on mindless rampages at a given time. A game where most free roam servers turn into deathmatches, and where races get ruined by a guy who goes around crashing into other cars on the race to sabotage them. The chances of ever getting an in depth, detailed, tactical heist that needs to be planned out online in this game would be slim to none. Instead the heists if they are player vs player will just turn into another glorified deathmatch. If the heists are player vs AI what would be the difference between a heist and a regular mission?

Chances are that R* isn't going to give cool detailed actually planned out heists similar to single player, all heists will likely be is a glorified deathmatch or capture mode which can already be made with the content creator.

Just play heist with people you know

Yes but how exactly would heists not be a glorified deathmatch or capture mode?

If it's player vs player and the criminals have the object to steal something and bring it somewhere it's basically capture mode.

If respawns are on it will cause players to play like idiots and run and gun since they will can just respawn and return to the fight within a few seconds, combine this with auto aim and hud radar and you basically got a deathmatch.

If respawns are off it would basically be last team standing with an objective, that will probably be ignored since one side could just kill the others off.

The heists are hinted at as being cops vs crooks, so maybe the cops have respawns and respawn a few blocks away from the location of the heist, and the crooks do not respawn and are out numbered but have to be able to steal something and get it to a storage area and have some sort of advantage to help them, and get to plan out the job. That's the only way I can see heists being any good or interesting of a mode.

Heists won't be able to save the dull and repetitive gameplay of gta online. don't believe the hype.

I don't really like GTA: Online in general, people randomly kill me on a lobby, shoot my car or try to blow it up, when trying to find other players most join than quit, if i try to connect to some needing players i get kicked sometimes, and the loading time is just incredible long (but i don't want to complain with my 500kbps)

Which are some of the reasons that heists will suck.

They're not long enough. They're too hard. They're like super duper easy. They pay out too much. They don't pay enough. f*cking cockstar only gave us 40 heists?! i want 45! and Heists are a way to make money and we'll never get SP DLC ever! never ever!

That's an advanced preview :p

I think people are forgetting that you need a luxury home or appartment to be able to PLAN the heists. Heists will probably be missions like singleplayer but with some online friends instead of a hired crew. A loud approach or a subtle approach.

No PVP or cops vs players IMO.

FFS will you people stop calling them "heist." It's HEISTS with a god damn S at the end. "Can't wait to get that heist dlc hurr durr" my god is that annoying. First person I see doing it is DumbassLive now it seems it's rubbed off.

Also, OP I've seen this thread a million times.. Heists will only be disappointing if you yourself think it's gonna save the game. They're not, you're gonna need friends, or people with a similar mindset as you. You've got to do it and do it right. I feel like half the people who are gonna play heists first day are gonna be rolling up in their chrome Zentorno/Adders with miniguns and RPG's wearing sweats and a monkey mask.. That is what's going to ruin it, not R*.

If R* actually lets us plan our own heists then great, it'll be fantastic. But people will still bitch, and moan, and bitch, and moan ect. ect. because you cannot please anyone even if you put a crap ton of work into something you're proud of. Which I'm sure R* is proud of their work. But the people I described above will be the soul reason people are back onto this site, or R*'s newswire bitching about how heists aren't living up to expectations, while people like me who are gonna have a group of friends, in all black suits, coordination and correct cars for the job enjoy the f*ck out of robbing banks.

80% of the people will bitch about the payouts too, because no matter how much we get payed it won't be enough. Some people still think money is an issue this far into the games life and 1 job will set them up for life.

It's the experience that you create, not what the game dictates. That's how GTA has been since day 1.

As long as there is at least one new vehicle then I'll be happy.

BTW, just play with your friends.

But R* is going to cater to those players since they make up a large demographic of the game.

That's why they even catered to them in the single player story, and instead of playing as a criminal who sells drugs, pimps, or does small time robberies your instead doing heists for the FIB where you get into a shootout with 100 cops and national guard members while your character is carrying around shooting a mini gun in an armor suit.

I'm just nervous they won't offer much replay value. The heists in GTA V can be fun, but the outcome is always the same for the most part.

I was really hoping R* would make the heist locations just work like real businesses. Then we would have the ability to rob them whenever/however we want. Right now they basically just work like normal missions. They're set up to go one way, no matter how careful you are. I love those tense moments in heist movies when the guys are looking at their watches and trying to commit a clean heist before the cops show up. I wish GTA V heists felt more like that.

Mini guns have been around since Vice City so why not make a mission involving their use?

Vice City came out midway in the PS2 era at that time they couldn't build anywhere close to a detailed world, good gunplay mechanics, any sort of realism, physics, or any sort of detail or good gameplay so it was better to just focus on quantity and over the top as that could easily be done, around the time that game came out Mafia also came out which was a bit more realistic and had a much better story, AI, gunplay and combat but was very limited in terms of free roam and was a PC game so it obviously would not be as popular or sell as well but it was very well received.

Basically at the point Vice City came out no games were anywhere close to realistic or simulating things, by around 2006 or so realistic games start to come around a bit more often as technology got better, GTA IV and RDR and LA Noire were closer to real crime games and had more realistic gameplay and stories compared to others in the genre and this was the evolution the series should have kept going with.

I have no issue with miniguns in free roam but when you put in mini guns into the story and mission the game stops being a crime game and becomes a super hero game which I do not really have any interest in playing. Playing as a criminal in a video game is more appealing to me then playing as a super hero.

This whole game is f*cked, thank all the 13 and unders parents bank accounts that Rockstar, Sony and Microsoft are having their share of.

Yeah and the 12 year olds with ADHD would call that boring, and R* will cater to them as they are the ones dumb enough to beg their parents to buy the game and cash cards for them, so expect the heists to just be glorified deathmatches or shooting galleries where you got to lay down 100 cops.

V is a little over the top with it but there actually was a real life Hollywood shootout where they wore full body armor and kept cops in a standoff for hours so it isn't entirely unrealistic.

Yeah and that shootout was not at all like how it would be in GTA V.

Shootouts in this game end quick.

No cops died in that shootout ( yet in this game cops get killed from like 1 or 2 shot ) and your guy can sponge up bullets.

Cops shooting out of helicopters.

The cops in missions like Blitz Play or The Paleto Bay Heist have the AI turned down, and are less intelligent compared to free roam.

Those awful missions just basically serve as shooting gallery missions to excite the ADHD 12 year olds and make them say wow cool a shootout with 100 cops, when those 100 cops were brainless and your guy has tons of armor and an almost unlimited amount of machine gun or mini gun or RPG ammo on you. Add in auto aim and the hud and it's basically just brainless hold L2 and R2 and just spray. No skills, no thought, no story, just lame action.

At least in GTA IV most of the crazy shootout missions happened with other gangs in abandoned areas.

Paleto Bay Heist is one of the best missions in the game and I am not the only one that thinks so.

It was the stupidest. Where the did the tanks come from and how did they arrive on the scene so fast. It was so over the top it was overkill. One of the worst heists in my opinion.

If GTA took some of you guys advice Saints Row would probably be the number one mainstream open world game right now. The reason it became so popular was because it had the over the top action many people missed in IV. Most people want over the top action in GTA. This forum is like Bizzaro world.

Yeah, and that's why Saints Row was always looked at as just another GTA Clone and a poor game and did so poorly that they needed gimmicks like having a septic tank ( that was pretty much the exact same gameplay as a firetruck just with a retexture of sh*t instead of water ) by the second game, and gimmicks like freefalling shootouts and super powers by the fourth game and is now pretty much a dead series.

Saints Row was always a technically unimpressive and awful game in terms of gameplay mechanics the only good things it did was give the user a lot of things to do and a lot of customization.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ0_AdWGtv8

What an awful game and pathetic series, that garbage should be the last thing that anyone wants to turn a series into.

Ever notice that the simulator games, or games that strive to be moderately realistic and emulate the real life event or sport they are in tend to be the most well received among mature and serious players? Not one crime game has managed to do reach that level yet, Mafia games and GTA IV and RDR came close but had some issues GTA V has a good base but needs to have some changes in mods and the story prevents it.

Not one game has ever really simulated robberies, drug dealing, being in a gang, being a cop, yet all of those things could easily make for an exciting interesting game on it's own if they stayed true to it in the story and gameplay mechanics, yet loads of sports games or driving or flying or war games have came out that are simulators.

The mission Shadow in GTA IV where you chase down a drug dealer on foot to his apartment and bust into it and shoot 3 other drug dealers was way more exciting to me and believable compared to any shooting gallery shooting 100 braindead lifeless AI missions.
