So as I was trying to join a session an alert popped out saying:

 

Could not download files from the Rockstar Games Service required to play gta online.

 

And goes back to single player. :( how do I fix this?

No idea if it's related to maintenance or anything related. But it does happen to me from time to time, wait about an hour or so and you should be able to sign in without an issue.

Welcome to the day to day in GTA Online, where Rockstar's sh*tty cloud always justifies with "maintenance"

Idk, have you tried anything? Or did you just panic and come here.

Go to dashboard, pres start and quit the game, then power cycle. If that doesnt work... you're f*cked.

Restart the game, restart the console, restart your damn internet, THEN come here if that doesn't work.

If you are on the Xbox One then I would recommend doing what Dinlee suggested. I have found that if the xbox was suspended (turned off) then the game will give the error about being unable to download files or that the system is undergoing maintenance. Then you can exit the game (dashboard, then hit start when GTA is highlighted, and hit quit) and reopen it to get online.

I explained in full f*cking detail tho, I didn't think it'd be relevant to write how I turn on my PS4, but if that's not enough detail for you then I'm sorry. lol

Turn it on, turn it off, do an Indian rain dance, clap your hands 3 times, do a Miley Cyrus twerk, turn your console back on and your problem should be solved.

Yep! Has happened to me dozens of times, it often last only 2 minutes, maybe the longest it inflicted me was 15 minutes <--- I think that was when they were doing an overnight update to the game.

I've had this problem since day one. Still haven't been able to play online and that's the whole reason I bought it on ps4 again.

 

If anyone knows what to do I would greatly appreciate a response too

 

And you never had that issue on your PS3?

 

Did you purchase your Playstation Plus subscription for playing online? I have one, so I'm not sure what the behavior would be if you tried to go online without it.

 

If it's not a Playstation Plus issue, is anything different about the way your PS4 connects to the Internet versus the PS3? I am thinking if it uses a different router or something maybe you have some ports blocked or something. If you use a wired connection try the same cable that works for your PS3 and see if that works.

It's not a Plus issue to my knowledge, and I'm using a different Internet connection from last gen. The closest I got to online was a few days ago, it loaded to about 60%, a blank Playstation page came on the screen and then the game loaded up the prologue again.

I'm truly stumped on this one

I just used my phone's hotspot to connect and had no problems, went back to my normal wireless Internet connection and it's working fine.

 

Strange but it works
