I think a lot of people had three different vibes from the characters's trailer and previews: michael gave you that "vice city vibe" with the 80's music, the mansion, the suit... Trevor had that "GTA III-anarchy chaos", being a modern version of a crazier claude speed. And franklin's marketing pushed a lot toward the "san andreas vibe", from the "welcome back" graffiti to the colour green, the rap music and the explicit references to "families" and "Ballas". then the game came out: michael played with our nostalgia, also bringing in more layers (his family, his therapist) and showing a more rounded characters, with his mistakes and his past (Brad). he is the more "mature" (GTA IV) and old school (vice city) character. Trevor folowed the "casual player" appeal with destruction and crazy antics, bringing in that special flavor from GTA III and, partially, San andreas Franklin failed. He should have played with his gangsta origins, capturing the "san andreas" fans and then building a character ready to either playing along with the "gangsta stereotype" , or starting a long process of deconstruction of that myth. He did nothing: after "stabbing the fans" (groove street is gone) he quickly moves away from that world, never returning in the hood, But (and that's another problem), he doesn't grow up either: he has a nice house after few missions, and then he became just the "token friend" (not the token "black" friend, i'm not talking about racism... just that kind of friends that you find often in movies, who has the sole purpose to keep the main couple togheter... yes, i'm talking about M and T ). He has his moments here and there, but he can be written out of the storyline and few will notice. He had potential, sadly R* wasted it. He is the quintessence of the GTA player, hence, in a way, the most "realistic" of any character ever featured in the whole GTA saga. At the same time he would be the most unrealistic person to live and prosper untill his relatively old age in the real world: a virtually living paradox. Think about who Trevor is - a cannibal, a rapist, a meth head psychopathic murderer. Michael needed to eliminate Trevor and cooked up a plan to do it. Why he couldn't just put a bullet in his head, I don't know... Probably the same reason Michael had Franklin kill Trevor instead of doing it himself. Either way I don't blame Michael one bit. Think about the scene where Trevor shows up at Michaels house, and Michael moves Jimmy behind himself as if to shield Jimmy, protect him. Trevor I just don't bother with, my opinion his a waste of space, only time I played as him was when it was required other than that its been Franklin. The retired typical GTA protagonist. Because he has "everything", it doesn't make much sense going on rampages, stealing cars or killing someone out of the blue. Never do it with him or Franklin. As for Trevor: He's not a rational thinking or acting person, id driven. Some of his characteristics appear cartoonish, they have to be taken more metaphorically, than literally. He represents freedom of action. With him, I have no problem stealing random vehicles or going on rampages. ...hell Trevor is the one who got rampage missions and is seen stolen a faggio or being chased by the cops. I like them all. Perhaps everyone should look into their statistics and check who they played most of the time. Franklin...probably the nicest guy and in my opinion the best special ability. He may always seem like a cold motherf*cker, but deep inside he has a heart. Like when Michael says he has a family and Trevor says "So what I got nothing?
