Surprised to see Trevor winning on this forum.

I'm not exactly surprised. There are a lot of younger GTA players around who still think extremely violence, excessively crazy, and psychotic behaviour is really cool in a character. They still seem to amazed and fascinated by such recycled, over-used cliches that apply to characters like Trevor.

ok....Franklin is also cliche as well....

And so is Michael.

That's kind of the point of the characters in GTA - it makes them instantly recognisable without the player having to know much about them. We have:

1. Middle aged white criminal guy

2. Young black criminal guy

3. Crazy white criminal guy.

We've also had

1. Eastern European ex military guy

2. Biker guy

3. Hispanic ex military guy.

And we've also had

1. 90s Young black gang banger guy

2. 80s Mafia middle aged white guy

3. Double hard bastard mute white guy.

And of course all of the cliched guys we have in the less major releases. If you can't work out who I mean from the descriptions above, you either don't understand cliches or you are some kind of special needster.

I challenge you to suggest a GTA protag that hasn't been a cliche of some kind. Or any game, come to think of it.

100% agree with you, but I just had to point out that the "Hispanic nightclub bouncer" wasn't "ex military" because he was never in the military. Although his father was...

Wow, just goes to show how much attention I was paying when I played through. I thought the picture in his safehouse, the guy dressed in military gear, was Luis.

Wow, just goes to show how much attention I was paying when I played through. I thought the picture in his safehouse, the guy dressed in military gear, was Luis.

The resemblance to his father is striking. But even if people complain that each protagonist is similar to another, that's to be expected. They are all characters in a similar demographic. And each one of them brings a different uniqueness to the table.

I mean, people compare franklin to CJ, but franklin shares more in common with Luis. The only thing franklin and CJ have in common is that they are both African American and both were gangbangers in LS.

Neither franklin or Luis graduated highschool. They were both ex drug dealers and ex gang members(no longer active.) at the time of each respective storyline, they were both 25. And they both have advanced driving skills... But other than that, they are also very different.

Luis is an obvious ladies man, while franklin is terrible with women and is still stuck up on his ex girlfriend...

Luis is a mature non drug user

Franklin is a big immature pot smoker who lives with his aunt, banging loud ass music at all hours of the day, and has a dog.

Franklin seems to have religious beliefs

Luis doesn't show and religious beliefs.

Luis is an bouncer

Franklin was a car dealer...

Just a simple list off the top of my head comparing Luis and franklin... For what reason? I can't even remember. But I did it, so here it is...

Speaking for myself, I like him for more than just being a violent mayhem creator. What makes him my favorite is all the funny one-liners that also appear in self-mocking fashion and the fact that he took no sh*t from anyone.

I'm surprised that I didn't like Franklin more. His type of characters normally appeals to me but I just find his personality rather dry. Come to think of it, I don't know if I recall him saying any memorable one-liners. It's like they added Lamar as his sidekick for a lighter contrast to his serious, depressive attitude. Even Vic Vance said some funny things, including when he was being serious.

I did find myself laughing at a few parts of the game to do with Trevor. But overall, I just don't find Trevor that funny. He takes a sh*t on the street, ha ha. He dresses in women's clothes, ha ha. He threatens to pull his d*ck out, ha ha. He walks around the house with no underwear, ha ha. he finds humor in torturing and brutally killing people ha ha. He probably banged or molested Floyd, (definitely not funny).

Sorry, but none of this about Trevor amuses or impresses me, it's just simple, straightforward, shock factor tactics applied to a character's expression by Rockstar designed to gain instant attention to people with simple minds that are easily wowed by anything extreme. I think you get my point.

Trevor took sh*t from no one, but then again which GTA protagonist ever did take sh*t from anyone ? They were all hardcore criminals and killers whenever they needed to be, and they always got even with their enemies and defeated them in the end. Even CJ who appeared to get pushed around by corrupt cops still took no sh*t - he bided his time and kills practically every one who did him wrong - that's taking no sh*t. Trevor ? He gets killed by Franklin, so he did worse than take no sh*t, he got the sh*t end because he died.

Trevor is the most entertaining. He's definitely the most flawed of the three, but none of the other two made me laugh anywhere near as much. In fact, the other two combined still didn't. This is a combination of the writing and top drawer voice acting. To my mind out of the entire series only Ray Liotta and maybe Gary Busey betters Steve Ogg in this respect.

I find myself enjoying more of the Franklin things to do and my stats always seem to lean to more playing time there. Starting sh*t with the gangs, racing cars, skydiving. And I like his story arc best, rags to riches but he's still alone. Poignant. Maybe as not a middle aged family man or psycho in the sticks, I just relate to him more.

Definitely Michael. He has the best character development of the trio, and is a different character, rather than Franklin, who's similar to C.J, and Trevor, who's just the same all the time.

Franklin is okay. I wish he had better development. His character definitely has potential, though.

Trevor, well, yeah. :v:

I feel like Franklin was the weakest character of the three, which is disappointing because he had a lot of potential! In no point in the story did I ever feel sorry for Franklin, the same way I did for Michael and Trevor. (I could give examples but I'm just tired...)

Franklin was the third character to be written into the script.

Here we go again. That is NOT true... The final character was trevor, not franklin...

It's funny you post those things because I really didn't care for any of that. Most of the fun with Trevor are his quotables and one-liners. Wearing a dress or taking a sh*t were things I could've done without. Violating a teddy bear and what he said about it in the "Scouting the Port" cutscene or his constant mocking of Floyd's pussy whipped attitude... those were things that I found funny about him.

The ending with Trevor getting killed was so stupid that I'd rather pretend it didn't exist. From him being injured by that car crash with Michael to him running away from Franklin... just idiotic writing. Although I'd assume he ran away because he was hesitant about killing a friend he put all his trust into, sort of the same deal with Michael who he couldn't bring himself to kill.

I killed Trevor once and felt sorry for him, when he was burning, saying he knew they didn't really like him or something like that lol

Franklin right now. Trevor is too messed up to play all the time and Michael's got his own issues. Franklin seems the most normal of the three. He's got a good choice of clothes and haircuts and his driving ability is handy. And his age makes him more relatable to me.

Michael followed by Franklin. Playing on the next gen didn't affect any of my opinion about the story or characters in any way.

Trevor's craziness's fun but too much to handle.

Trevor is too violent , his sense of humor doesn't please my refined sense of humor and only stupid people like him.

Bwaaa bwaaaa!!!

Yes, god forbids we control a CRIMINAL that turns out to be disgusting and a sociopath, every criminal should be likeable and rational.

Luis is an obvious ladies man, while franklin is terrible with women and is still stuck up on his ex girlfriend...

There's a switch event that shows him sending a girl home in cab in his vinewood hills flat, so Franklin gets tail, even Michael says so in a conversation. Edited by Midnight Hitman

None. They're all horrible and poorly written.

-Michael is too depressing and doesn't make any sense at times. Which makes me wish I killed him in the end.

-Franklin is irrelevant after T comes in. He's also annoying, bossy, and a hypocrite that spends his life ironing shirts, eating chips, and dressing horrible and criticizing a dog because of its fecies

-T is crazy. That is all. R* just really wants to shove it down our throats like its a running gag. We get it, he's crazy and can get extremely annoying to play as. "LULZ! HEZ IN A DRESS!! HARDEE HARHARHAR!!!"

I expect backlash, but I wont be here to experience it. Nightie night kiddies.

Firstly, I don't appreciate you completely editing my quote into something totally different to what I said in my original post that you quoted. I get what you were trying to do (be sarcastic and mocking), but you could have quoted me as normal and put your response separately like most others do on here. Don't do that sh*t with me.

Secondly, don't get all so dramatic and theatrical, no need to get your knickers in a twist. To play as a GTA protagonist, I think it's important that you should like him. If you don't like playing as a character, you're highly unlikely to enjoy and play the game. If Trevor is what you like, then fine, it's important that you like him, because you will enjoy playing the game more. I don't like Trevor, so yes, of course it's important whether I like him or not, or else I won't really enjoy playing it. DURRRH

I didn't change your quote into anything different, you said that only simple minded are impressed by violence and extreme acts,,it's like i went into the SA section and i said that CJ is for kids with a wanabe gansta attitude that likes dumb costumes.

Totallycasual

Michael is a walking cliche but i like him anyway, Trevor is my favorite of the three just because he's such a well fleshed out character and so full of issues lol

Franklin is a huge disappointment to me, i felt like he's just the obligatory gang link well because i guess it is GTA.... i just think they missed a great opportunity to make a great new character. He could have just as easily been a girl, think Michelle Rodriguez type character from Fast and Furious or even Georgia Sykes (hot contract killer girl from Smokin Aces) anyone really that the could tie in with a minority group that has a presence in Los Santos.
