. I remember having so many arguments with people about this before V was released. So many people in here had this preconceived notion that a black person couldn't a "successful career criminal". They only wanted a black guy if it was a Frank Lucas type character, aka a guy dresses and acts white. The whole urban black subculture made them uncomfortable mostly because a lot of them fantasize about mob figures and had some strange fantasy that Italian mafia operates in LA.

Lol ha ha I remember all that sh*t. Especially the fantasy Italian Mafia that was supposed to be big in LA, and all that nonsense about the Mafia having more class and being more brainy because they wore smart suits, sunshades, and drove limousines. Stupid Hollywood-brainwashed idiots, those were fun memories loool !!

Exactly. I remember you and I would always argue against The Scottish Guy. Good times back then lol. And people are for real brainwashed by movies and sh*t, luckily you and I aren't, but too many people on this forum are.

And what do we get? Franklin, who spends pretty much the entire game trying to escape the hood, live in a big house, and learn how to be a 'big time' criminal, planning huge heists and stuff.

In other words, he becomes the typical white GTA protagonist. A younger Michael but without the whiny family.

@ greenrock

Kill that noise. Leave it alone, that subject is long gone, and it's not really relevant to V as we thought it would be back then anyway. Most of the of V is now centered around corrupt federal law enforcement and government agencies, organized crime and gangs hardly figure in this game, so there is no point in going into this.

Trevor. Because trevor.

who else threatons too molest his friends guy gets me laughing all the time .

"I'm driving if I get bored you can jack me off. I'm joking you suck me off"

How can you not love this guy

Ok you like the gay stuff about Trevor that's fine, your preference. But don't be trying to promote that stuff to everyone else and force them to like it, just because you do. Of course that's gonna put many people off a guy like Trevor. I get that that that's how you and your friends behave toward each other, and you can relate to Trevor, but I will safely say most of us on here can't relate to that stuff.

And you're one strange guy to find all that stuff hilariously funny IMO .

wholey sh*t are you serious.

Dude thats like the funniest line in the whole game . I'm not going to point out the obvious like nobcheese is . But if that bugs u that much its like over compensation "let it gooo" . Anyway cheers for the laugh mate. Peace

When it comes to story, Michael.

Fun and giggles, Trevor.

For most useful ability Franklin, though Trevor is a really close second but I don't find myself getting into shootouts much.

I like all three honestly and can't put one above the other.

Surprised to see Trevor winning on this forum.

I'm not exactly surprised. There are a lot of younger GTA players around who still think extremely violent, excessively crazy, and psychotic behaviour is really cool in a character. They still seem to amazed and fascinated by such recycled, over-used cliches that apply to characters like Trevor.

I would say Franklin. And before anyone says, it's not because I'm 'a 12 year old who thinks he's hood.' It's because he's not all 'nigga' this and 'nigga' that as Lamar is, it's because he has an ambition to be different than that, which (to me) is a fresh change. Also, gang life is something which has always interested me, so it was nice to see his addition with that kind of stuff.

how is that different? a fresh change?

if anything in terms of GTA, Franklin story is the most common one "the rags to riches storyline"...if anything Mike and Trevor stories were unique in terms of GTA

Speaking for myself, I like him for more than just being a violent mayhem creator. What makes him my favorite is all the funny one-liners that also appear in self-mocking fashion and the fact that he took no sh*t from anyone.

I'm surprised that I didn't like Franklin more. His type of characters normally appeals to me but I just find his personality rather dry. Come to think of it, I don't know if I recall him saying any memorable one-liners. It's like they added Lamar as his sidekick for a lighter contrast to his serious, depressive attitude. Even Vic Vance said some funny things, including when he was being serious.

Trevor's weird. I like some of the things he says, but he's hard to like for a lot of people. It's the eating people thing, the Floyd rape, the 1st time i played the game i thought he was going to kill Wade and Ron, maybe Lamar. I liked him more when he saves Michael, before that though he's a total sh*t.

He just needs a hug :p

Franklin is the one I like the most, not my favorite because all of them are douchebags, but F is like the middle ground, so yeah.

I like Trevor because his character fits in with Sandy Shores and he actually enjoys being a criminal. I also graduated high school in the 90s.

Franklin, i know he's the whipping boy but thats kinda the point. Hes new to "real" work, so he gets treated like a temp. My favorite thing about Franklin is how he interacts with the world though. Driving obviously a big factor, but its when you do his strangers and freaks missions that this character starts to make a name for himself. I also really loved San Andreas and Franklin being a Grove st families member and his dialogue about the families just send me to nastolgia lane, on a inner thoughts level Franklin is CJ, but Franklin is such a pushover its embarassing to play as him sometimes lol

When V first released, I was all about Trevor. In my eyes he was cool, badass and funny. But if I have to say anything about him today, I'd say he's boring, predictable, and semi-funny.

He ruined more than half of the story for me.

After finding out what happened with Brad, I expected some real heat between him and Michael. Ha ha, it's funny, right? f*ck no. Motherf*cker kills whoever he wants, but not the one who he actually hates. Sure, you can say Trevor doesn't really want to kill Michael, but then again, why make a promise you know you will definitely break? It could make sense, but not in this case.

Overall, no main (and some other minor) character/s, except Michael, have been used correctly.

So yeah, gonna have to go with Max Payne's whacky version.

Yeah, I admit the eating humans part kinda turned me off a bit but then he vomited right after, so maybe he realized it's not such a good idea? :p

At first the killing of Floyd and Debra was also a bit hard to digest but looking at the situation and his expression when leaving the house, it comes across as if he had no choice and was forced to it. Exploring his character, he is not as shallow as he appears on the surface. Beyond all the rage and violence, he comes across as a smart man and most of his kills are justified in the GTA world. (none of his kills appear to be similar to "False Idols" from LCS or Management Issues" from SA in being unnecessary)

At first it was Trevor from the get go due to him being such an extreme character, then I was torn between him and Michael, I genuinely felt sorry for Michael at first with the situation with his family and being such an awesome Robert De Niro style guy, but as I enjoy playing as psychopath criminals and the more I played it, I got more irritated with the whole him snitching and trying to have Trevor killed thing. I do love Trevor's loyalty and devotion to his friends and I found it quite sad how Mike tried to kill T out of fear of him and wanting out of the game, despite that he would never want to kill Mike (at that point anyway.)

They went overboard with the cannibalism thing and after a second playthrough on new gen the Floyd thing does kind of disturb me. He was clearly abusing somebody who wouldn't fight back. That being said I still enjoyed playing as him and the missions based around him are fun as hell.

A choice between psycho, cheater and true brother?

Franklin is the only one who makes me feel right whatever in behavior or personality, Lamar's ok and pretty interesting.

I'll choose Lamar and Franklin if I can.

And so is Michael.

That's kind of the point of the characters in GTA - it makes them instantly recognisable without the player having to know much about them. We have:

1. Middle aged white criminal guy

2. Young black criminal guy

3. Crazy white criminal guy.

We've also had

1. Eastern European ex military guy

2. Biker guy

3. Hispanic ex military guy.

And we've also had

1. 90s Young black gang banger guy

2. 80s Mafia middle aged white guy

3. Double hard bastard mute white guy.

And of course all of the cliched guys we have in the less major releases. If you can't work out who I mean from the descriptions above, you either don't understand cliches or you are some kind of special needster.

I challenge you to suggest a GTA protag that hasn't been a cliche of some kind. Or any game, come to think of it.
