don ovdi' island
Well, the admiral in the HD era is a Grand Marquis, and since Dundreary is supposed to be Mercury, it makes sense, Dundreary Admiral = Mercury Grand Marquis. 3d to HD era brands and names can't really be compared, since there are so many differences in the makes and models. As far as the inconsistencies between the makes and models? Well, that's just that good ole top notch attention to detail R* has. As far as the puns and jokes for the brand names? Well, that's just that good ole, corny and played out sense of humor R* has.. much like their 50 million sex and genital jokes they have on every corner of the GTA series that is just redundant now. 79'Blazer4x4
I'd like to meet the person who had the brillaint idea to name a brand Willard. So now you have a car called Willard Willard.. I agree, that's pretty dumb. If there was any kind of vehicle in real life with a model name that was the same as the make it would at least make it less nonsensical to have it in GTA, though it would still be stupid as hell. Pedinhuh
If anything I don't like their names, almost all of them sound cool or original, they are all some short of immature pun(like almost everything in the game is) Obey doesn't sound cool like Audi does; Same applies for Benefactor, Ubermacht, Dodge, Dundreary(real dumb name right here), Vapid, Deubawchee, Annis, Gallivanter, Willard, and the list goes on... The only one I still like are the: Classique, even though it doesn't exist anymore; Declasse, sound cool and classy; Vulcar, because it's a cool name, in my point of view even better than Volvo; Imponte, sounds powerful as Pontiac. I agree, that's pretty dumb. If there was any kind of vehicle in real life with a model name that was the same as the make it would at least make it less nonsensical to have it in GTA, though it would still be stupid as hell. It would make more sense if you consider it as a model within a different brand which gets promoted into a brand of it's own, such as Chrysler's Imperial from '55 to '75 and '81 to '83. The 80's Imperial is as close, I think, to the Willard Willard as it was simply named the Imperial, with no use of the Chrysler name om the vehicle, albeit with the pentastar logo. It was during concept stage planned to be named Chysler LaScala. On the basis of that I propose that the Willard Willard may actually just go by the name Willard, similar to the '81–'83 Imperial. With other Willard both before and after it chronologically, I can only suggest that the Willard model and brand and it's mother company has had drastic shifts in popularity over time, causing the model/brand to be promoted/denoted many times over. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_(automobile) I know Wikipedia is not a good source for reference, so check out Wikipedia's sources for credible ones. Billy Benedict
Also here R* wants to save money. They would have to pay the licence for using real brands. So first they have to negotiate with the manufacturers of the cars and then if they agree, they can use the brand, logo, name etc. for a fee, of course. But instead of giving them money, they decided to just chinese the cars by copying them and just change small details. Id rather prefer real names. The same goes for real city names, street names and so on. and so you think ford is gonna let one of thier cars be used to run over old ladies? Hmmm? I'm sure Cadillac would love thier cars being used by gang bangers who commit heinous crimes, and what business doesn't want to be featured in a mission where a character blows up their corporate headquarters, loan sharks to them and all of the other myriad of things that a protagonist does in issiin? Then u gotta worry about the fact that when the media feels like blamming rockstar for societies problems again, were gonna lose all of the cars and buildings from the game because of the "compassion for values" that these businesses have Edited December 12, 2014 by LILSPILLYUM

don ovdi' island
the movie industry steps to its own vibe. Look at fictional TV shows, they use real cars but take the badges off to avoid licensing disputes. Its different in 3d movies/cartoons/and video games because they actually have to model the cars.. whereas movies they're using actual vehicles. Plus, car manufacturers probably review and approve of a script in which their cars will be used, as opposed to video games where its all up to the player what to do and totally out of anyone else's control. Also i'd say hollywood has/and is willing to dish out the big bucks to get the licenses in movies that are violent and the such. it's cheaper (and probably easier) for game designers to just create their own knockoffs. Yep, that's exactly what I thought at first too. Fun thing though, back when Vulcar was thought to be Volkswagen I would read far too much into that name and I assumed it's a very clever pun - "vulgar" classicaly means "common", and Volkswagen is literally "peoples' car". So I thought the name would convey a similar meaning - a "vulgar car" being a commoner's car. Micaam
RedDagger
Am i the only one who cares about knowing GTA vehicle Brands? Am i the only one who cares about cars which should have been set on this "Brand" instead of that "Brand"? People mention this fairly often - Rockstar aren't too picky with their choice of brand of a car, and have been known to switch the manufacturer between games (can't remember which car though), and there's a lot of people who are vocal about this. Saying that, there only representations of a brand, and often are a mixture of brands, so they haven't done anything properly wrong by assigning a car to the 'wrong' brand.
