Is this a good PC for me?

Hello everyone.

I literally, moments ago created this account for the one purpose to ask people about this rig.

In a few months or so (by mid to late February) I'm building a brand new Gaming PC for myself. The games I intend on playing aren't really performance heavy (The Sims 3, Minecraft, any Source Engine Game), BUT. There's a couple more power hungry games that I want to play. These include Saints Row 2-4, Battlefield 3 or 4, Call of Duty 4 (and onward), Fallout 3/New Vegas, Skryim, Mass Effect 1/2, and the grand kicker, GTA V. According to this neat website called Game Debate (I've used it to check all of these games with my new comp), I should have no problem running most of these games on at least Medium Settings with little to no problems or drops in FPS. I just need a sure-fire way to know if this is a good system for me or not.

But lets get down to it, here's the system I've been talking about: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kloudyperson45/saved/sMnj4D

So, is it a good PC for me? Or should I try to look for something else. My main budget is around $550-650.

Thanks in advance.

Since you have some budget left, I'd opt for a better CPU and GPU:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($172.94 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($45.98 @ OutletPC)

Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($59.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($51.49 @ OutletPC)

Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270 2GB DirectCU II Video Card ($134.99 @ NCIX US)

Case: Zalman Z5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($19.99 @ Newegg)

There might be better peripherals available, but I don't know much about those.

Thank you. I'll look into this, hopefully by the time I can buy it it wont be too jacked up in price. :)

Hmm... For some reason, it's showing me 700 USD already... I think OutletPC bumped their prices... And the case jumped ~30$...

For the Storage, I haven't exactly heard anything good about Seagate recently... While it's completely your decision, I would just like to point out that there is a WD drive that is (as far as I can tell) almost perfectly identical to the one specified. (This)

For the Mouse/Keyboard, there is (at least) one combo (keyboard+mouse) that is about 1$ cheaper... (This one) No comments on the quality though, as I haven't used that brand for anything, but for <10$, I don't think you'll be seeing anything really great either as individual or combo.

If you are located near a MicroCenter, you could opt for a i5-4690k. A "slight" increase in speed (3.5 vs 3.2) and it is unlocked, so if you get a non-stock CPU cooler, you could probably get at least a slight overclock, if you are interested in that stuff; even if you aren't into OC, MicroCenter sells it for cheaper than the locked version...

ST1000DM003 is a good drive, there aren't that much complaint about this specific model. But in any case - yes, WD10EZEX is its perfect counterpart.

As for the i5-4690k - I'd also consider then changing the mobo to one that qualifies for TopTechCashback: https://toptechcashback.com/uk/en/pages/cashback/qualifying

Huh... Just did a quick look at that site... It looks like it's Europe only. Just a guess here, but I doubt that would work from the US/non-europe...
