GG14876
Man... This takes me back... Played Microsoft Train Simulator for years... Least, as long as I had a working XP computer... For some reason, I could never get it to play on Win 7... Oh, and screw MS for canceling MS Train Sim #2! Saw the demo video of it and thought "Yeah! In another year or two, I'm going to have a wonderful time!". Nowadays, I'm playing Simutrans... It's essentially a "level up" over actual train sims; you're dictating routes, schedules, consists instead of controlling just one consist. Graphics aren't "hi-def" or anything, but what train sim has that? (Seriously, even those pics remind me of MS Train Sim.) Also, it's more of a general "transportation simulator", so you also have cars/planes/boats; but there is a load of stuff for trains. Any recommendations as to a current Train Simulator? I keep seeing various versions, but can't really decided as (last I checked) most of the publishers were unknown to me. Nico

Ai®a©ob®a
I love playing this game but i'm horrible at it, I always overshoot my stops but it's also buggy sometimes when i do manage to make my stops sometimes it doesn't register and the doors won't open or the passengers won't load of offload. But i do love playing the Trainz Simulator on my iPad Edited December 10, 2014 by Troubadour

universetwisters
I LOVE TRAIN SIMULATOR. I remember starting with the very first Microsoft Train Simulator and now I'm currently with Railworks. I bought the Marias Pass route for Railworks, which was originally featured in MSTS, and holy sh*t you can see how good the graphics have become while retaining the same core gameplay. Hell, probably one of the best examples of sequel progression I've seen without sacrificing anything the original had. Nico

Nico
As I stated many times, I spent a lot of time with the good old MSTS when I was obsessed with trains. There's some things I don't like about the current train simulators. While they have amazing graphics and their train models and routes might be way more accurate in comparison with the real ones, they were made with modern gaming policies in mind, like every videogame now. UT said you have to pay an extra money to drive a freight train in the Marias Pass route, when the original 2001 game already included it. Not to mention they nowadays do the same thing as sport games publishers do: re-release the same game every year with a few improvements and a bit more content. That gives them way more profit than sticking with an "stable" release and keep giving support for it, like Microsoft somewhat did with MSTS. Last but not least. They still don't have all the free custom content the old games do. That's pretty obvious since they are new, and content creators need time. And some custom content may require DLC to work, like routes. Edited December 16, 2014 by Nicolas Chiribelo universetwisters 1 Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? resevil2008
I never understood this. They are usually very expensive and look boring, so I never tried one. What's so fun about these train simulators? I've tried other "vehicle" sims like ETS 2, X-Plane 7, X-Plane 9.
Nico
You have to like trains, first. If you don't, they'll look like a bunch of boring games. don ovdi' island
I had Msts many many years ago. I forgot how i did it but i downloaded a bunch of graffiti'd up and rusty boxcars and hoppers and put them on the train then got it up super fast so it would derail. It was awesome watching 100 car trains crash and fly everywhere

It wasn't that bad though, seeing as I got it on a steam sale. But yeah, I see how it can be annoying. It's well worth the money if you're into the Marias pass, or BNSF in general. Straypuft
haha, so it took me about 30 minutes to get the train to move in World of Subways London, many many button mashing, my tablet that I was using to look at the manual froze on me....my old computer took forever to turn on so i could use it to look at the manual.... worst part is, i dont remember anything that I did to get it to move. I will try the tutorial later on lol -- How am I just finding out about this?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railfan:_Chicago_Transit_Authority_Brown_Line must find and then learn japanese! Straypuft
Anyhoo, what would you guys say is the best all rounder Train Sim program out there? there are only 2 major train sims out right now, and they both have their pros and cons: Train Simulator 2015: Pros: Seems more realistic. Cons: huge lack of user created trains and route content. Trainz: Pros: More user created content(routes and trains) Cons: the way the download station is set up, if you reinstall trainz and you need to update the built in content, you are limited to 100 slow megabytes per day from the download station unless you pay for faster access and unlimited megabytes downloads. Nico
For the realistic sim games.....none.....but i only use sim games to crash. As the 94.67% of the people who buy train sims nowadays... Sometimes I ask to myself "Why not reinstall the game and all that spanish content? You could make many activities and have a lot of fun." But the laziness... install the game, official patch, MSTS Bin, ALL the material, routes, X-Tracks, Y-Tracks... I'm a lazy f*ck, and I don't have a sh*tload of free disk space to waste. Better wait for a bigger HDD. Edited March 5, 2015 by Nicolas Chiribelo Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Nico
Double post but, I don't think is such a big issue here. Anyone here tried Open Rails? I knew about this free thing but I had no idea you can actually use everything from MSTS in it. I tried it and is not bad. It even has multiplayer.
