Algonquin Assassin
A dislike button would be interesting. The majority of mine would come from GTA V fanboys and to a lesser extent SA fanboys. However in all seriousness I don't think a dislike button would really be of any sort of benefit. If someone doesn't like what someone else is saying they should ignore it. Encouraging people to dislike posts would lead to worse flame wars than there already is. Kirsty and Sentrion
Pumpkin Zone
There was a dislike when we changed to the new forums, but it was taken off shortly after. At least I think I'm remembering that right?

I don't remember it as well. Only the core IPB features were present. The Like system was called respect back them, like the San Andreas style. They just changed it back to Like. Pumpkin Zone
I could've swore there was some downvote/dislike feature before it was taken out fairly early, the reason why there is the ability for us to have negative Likes. I wish I could recall what exactly what I was remembering, oh well!

Son of Zeus
You could atleast try the dislike button for a short time.... I agree that it will encourage trolling but eventually they'll get tired.... And who gives a f*ck. I won't mind if i have a -1000 rating. It's just a virtual thing. TJGM
I also remember a "+respect" button of some sort.. That was the like button today.. Just renamed. You could atleast try the dislike button for a short time.... I agree that it will encourage trolling but eventually they'll get tired.... And who gives a f*ck. I won't mind if i have a -1000 rating. It's just a virtual thing. It still sounds like a really bad idea. If you don't like someone's post, then don't like it. It will only be abused and it'll create more hassle than it's worth. Son of Zeus
Forum should liquidate and remove the whole meaningless reputation system instead IMO. Why are you so bent upon that? It's a good way of expressing agreement.
PhillBellic
Regarding the 'HOT' topic designation, I feel that it would be better if the threshold was raised to four pages at least. There are some days that every topic on the first pace has it, and as a result I feel that it cheapens the designation. Thoughts?

In that case, they should remove the like system asap, so that you won't reach 10K. Forum should liquidate and remove the whole meaningless reputation system instead IMO. Why are you so bent upon that? It's a good way of expressing agreement. It's not meaningless. Like System is a way of showing agreement on a post in a simple way. Dislike button would just lead to more feuds and abuse, as if there isn't enough for mods to deal with already.

I do not want any reputation system where you can rate up or down a post. Currently you can only rate up posts on this forum, while the other way has not been activated. Virtual likes are meaningless and a pathetic way to become an stupid online forum celebrity, and this was one of the primary reasons I did leave the forum for almost 6 months, back in June 2014. This stupid reputation system ruins threads and it motivates and reward users who auto-spam for likes by posting stupid GIF pictures like This or This. If I ever become a part of the GTANet team then I would work hard to get this removed, but I will never succeed with any of these. Edited December 4, 2014 by PalmIsland! I agree that a dislike button will likely be abused, but I could see it working decently in D&D. Pretty much accounts how the OGA members have so many likes. Anyway, GTA V section is the best place for likes. No, GTA Online section is. And looks like most of the members have figured out that abusing V will get them likes. I've been noticing this for quite some time now. Another place is the GTA Memes thread. You get at least 2 likes, no matter what sh*t you post. Isn't the like system abused already, though, particularly in certain back rooms? I agree that a dislike button will likely be abused, but I could see it working decently in D&D. What's D&D? Hey now there is a new 'Mark Solved' button appearing on every post beside the report and quote buttons. What's that for?
Franceska
It marks the thread as solved, like if one post in particular helped you solving your issue, you can mark the thread as solved through that and it will be the best answer in the thread. D&D is the Debate section. It's highly moderated and for serious discussions with only actual contributing posts. http://gtaforums.com/forum/77-debates-discussion/ Edited December 4, 2014 by Franceska Son of Zeus

I know, and because I like GTA, therefore I decided to return to the forum, with a new attitude and dividends. Also more important, I want to use GTAgarage, because it is one of the largest GTA Mod database on earth, when GTA V is released to the PC. I did not return here for harvesting virtual likes or getting any friends, by stalking female forum members or always being agree with other members whatever the discussion is about. RedDagger
The like system has a purpose - for starters, posts like 'this', 'I agree!', 'lol', 'xD' are fairly common when people just want to say that they positively responded to a person's post. Adding a like button lets people show this without low-effort posts (and yes, you can just report posts that are 'this'/'lol' or similar), and the abundance of posts like these wherever message boards exist show that small positive feedback is something that lots of people want to be able to create. Although there certainly will be people 'harvesting' likes (create a virtual point counter and there will always be people trying to get it as high as possible), most people can use it to show where they're doing 'good' posts - be it for quality, information or humour. As for more serious discussion, it's not as much 'agreeing with other people' as it is saying that you think they made a good point or hit the nail on the head. Which, as above, is something people just want to say to the poster. A dislike button has more negative connotations when abused, and it's ripe for abuse. Plus, adding negative feedback isn't a positive contribution to the forum as a whole - I can't see it making anything better. And as we've seen from site like reddit, a dislike button can discourage behaviour which should be encouraged, like differing opinions or simple questions. As much as you may want to throw these properties in with what the like button is, like I said the like button is only positive - heck, people posting just for likes still give a positive output to some people since they're liking it. The only place where the likes are seriously farmed is the GTA:O and, in parts, the GTA V section - and even then it's not terrible. The GTA:O section would probably just be a little better than the awful place it currently is. OGA is just a hidden section accessible for official groups like The Connection. If it's not "Wanted", "BUSTED", "Members" or "New members", "Moderator" the person is in, they're in an official group. There's also "Awaiting Authorization".
