Serious question, what is the appeal of assisted aim in multiplayer?

Except OP was simply asking people's opinions?

God this section started to become like the GTAV section. "F!ck you for having a different opinion/play style than mine!"

People keep mentioning in this thread that they use AA because the AI is too accurate. Well, I play a lot of survivals and have done for over a year. I like FA, but it can be hard to find people wanting to play survivals in FA; so I often go to assisted aim and find people to play with there. I occasionally use an L2 lock to pick a target out if it's behind a bush or something, but generally I just play free aim in AA survivals. What I can say is that there seem to be a greater number of dangerous bots in AA survivals than in FA survivals. So if my experience is anything to go by, don't be too concerned about the AI in free aim as they are not as dangerous as in AA; and as long as you move around a bit to avoid the AI lock and use a bit of cover when things get frantic in the later stages, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with AI in survivals and survivals are the most challenging missions in FA. Survivals are also a very good way of practising free-aim techniques if anyone is interested in making the move from AA to FA.

A serious disadvantage with FA is that in DMs, people who have bad connections are always hard to deal with and usually end up winning. If you can avoid the laggers though DMs are a lot of fun in FA.

The most important thing about aim settings is really what gives you the most fun/laughs. Whichever setting does that, that's what you should use.

I don't play survivals because it is boring and repetitive as all f*ck. Not because they are too hard.

I made the switch from Free Aim to assisted in V, as no f*cker played free aim !! although I use this to my advantage by using my Rifle from a distance where the auto aim lock doesn't reach, so in essence I am playing free aim within an assisted aim server ;)

Also there are probably 5 times more racers in assisted aim to free mode, which I didn't get at first as I thought it would be easier to kill a driver with assisted aim, I can honestly say I haven't experienced this ? I still use my car in free mode ALOT and only players to really cause me any grief to date are jets or t(w)ankers

Bots to hard in AA: granted I've never played in FA but, I don't think bots are to hard in AA. The only time I use true AA is when I have multiple targets especially if they are far apart. Otherwise only depressing the left trigger halfway let's you aim down sights in free aim mode. While I can't acquire target on most real players in this pseudo free aim mode, one on one bots are no problem, even on hard mode (1,5 cash and rp). In fact this pseudo free aim is essential skill when dealing with vehicles, you're dead if you goto aim at a car, panic, and fully depress the left trigger only to have thew AA zero in on a random npc.

Reasons why I play AA more than FA.

1) Its GTA. there has been assisted aiming on every GTA since III. Im used to it.

2) Whenever I try to go into a FA lobby, it either takes forever to find a decent sized lobby, or i get timed out cause i cant find a server.

3) Most of my friends and livestream buddies play on AA.

4) Its pretty funny hearing kids b*tch and cry when they cant reach you on AA lock cause you're too far away. Or if they dont kno about the combat roll that breaks the AA lock.

5) I love racing.

6) I love racing.

7) I LOVE RACING!!!

Free aim should be the default, for online especially

For first person mode, yes. Third person, maybe.

What aim style you use doesn't denote how good/bad you are.

People are too concerned with that sh*t.

Free Aimers have this idiotic superiority complex where they think they're better because they don't use the default aim option.

It's obnoxious.

^ well not everybody who uses FA is an elitist. I'm sure that my friend isn't.

Also to whoever mentioned using the auto lock to spot enemies in dark areas and/or bushes, this is one of the very times use the lock. Finally people started to share my style!

It's not a matter of having a superiority complex, it's a matter of not having to worry about getting one shotted by some doucher while driving down the street minding my own business

Also, free aim makes shootouts far more interesting and intense than just lock pop drop

The AI makes anybody realize that this game wasn't optimized for free aim at all. That's the only situation where assisted aim should be allowed, especially when I get gibbed by enemies hiding in bushes and shooting from cover...

Playing first-person mode with full lock-on aiming is stupid, although I'll play FA Assisted because I can't play shooters without that sticky aim on consoles.

I don't get why everyone says the AI is so uber,,,, they are push overs, what game did you play before GTA that had a hard AI for you, Pokemon?? Seriously put on some body armor and stfu.

Also I like playing the game rather than having it do stuff for me.

It's not even close population wise either.

It's pretty close, only a few more play freeaim according to that poll from a while back

http://gtaforums.com/topic/603203-your-not-living-till-you-play-on-free-aim/

The "nobodies plays freeaim" argument got old a long time ago, smokey. ;)

That's not a true representation of the players in each type.

GTAF represents a more hardcore type of player.

The statement "Nobody plays in FA lobbies" is false, but they are outnumbered by assisted lobbies.

They aren't competetive players or tryhards, they play for fun and to chill with friends.

Now that i think about it i want to go back to Traditional.

Disagree entirely, there are all kinds of GTA fans around here, as you would expect on a forum dedicated to the series.

A poll with 200 or so votes is a fairly decent sample population, certainly large enough to discredit the most popular go-to argument that nobody plays freeaim.

Discredits "no one plays free aim" yes...But to say it's more populated than aim assisted lobbies? Nope.

I can understand guys who play Free-roam / Missions in Assisted Aim.

But not for Deathmatches/LTS/Capture or even some types of GTA Races. Those game modes are a lot more fun in Free-aim. And that's the reason a lot of people don't enjoy them, they run them in AA and then complain that they're not interesting, of course they're not. I am falling asleep at any AA deathmatch

This is precisely why I made this topic, I want to understand how any gamer casual or competitive could enjoy the dynamics of assisted aim in PvP.

Ugotsmoked, you need to stop posting sh*t in here.

I understand players with a disability using assisted aim. I had a friend once who was a soldier that had lost half of his fingers on one hand, so couldn't shoot at all unless it was automatic aim. That's perfectly understandable.

I think a lot of people missed the part were you were specifically wondering about PvP and aim preference. I actually prefer DM style modes with free aim because I cannot stand the way AA DMs turn in total roll fests. I seriously can't stand the combat roll when it's non stop. It's just looks dumb, bunch of people rolling around and then pressing L2/R2 hoping to get a shot off before their adversary gets a counter roll off. Like I said before though, ultimately i just use whatever my crewmates do. That's usually AA since we mostly just race.

Oh yeah forgot to add this. I think they should add FA vs AA aim in the lobby so could just change it as you like as the lobby leader. But don't know if it's possible the way the servers are set up based on aiming.

CrysisAverted

Considering the amount of people receiving public assistance, I think people just want any sort of help they can get, tis a difficult life.

When I do get PS4 I will switch to Free Aim. I find third person shooting really difficult. The Marksmen rifle has been a welcomed addition! If I'm not using that I'm using my carbine.

Ok I get that some might prefer to play assisted aim against the sharpshooting AI in missions and survivals, but I will never understand why players prefer it to freeaim when playing against other players. GTA to me is all about the cars and shooting, but the two cannot mix in assisted aim, vehicles are a death trap, so you either walk around the map and take cover behind objects or you end up getting easily killed if any players are that way inclined.

I know free aim is difficult, but that's what makes it appealing and rewarding to me, I like the challenge of aiming myself, why don't others?

Please I really don't want any spam or bigoted responses, saying that I'm an elitist showing off. I genuinely want to know why players want the game to aim for them!?

Well, I was a PC gamer since mid 90s. My first console was XB360 in 2012 and I HATE, I really HATE to aim with these sticks. I don't play Battlefield on XBOX for the same reason. It's strange, that I actually can scope people pretty good with sniper rifle, but I'm not ready for all that effort in missions. On the other side, after playing GTA IV on PC with free aim I was unable to use that assisted aim on XBOX, it was absolutely bad. Maybe, because IV on XB360 was impossible for my eyes after PC. Free aim and mouse are very interrelated for me, but that's just my opinion and I'm not from that PC-master race club. I don't feel dumb for playing assisted aim and I'm not considering free-aim players elite, because I'm kind of too old for that.

Tl;DR: just a force of habit.

Ask Rockstar. They need to make free-aiming default and build the game around that. Though they would need to tweak AI accuracy and damage, and make the aiming and movement a little more fluid..

I was using free aim today in crew deathmatches and holy sh*t. Free aim in this game is soo clunky. I even tried fpv but its impossible there too because the iron sights on guns in this game are such sh*t. Most of my gun is in the way of the person. Free aim in a game designed as a 3rd person auto aim game is clunky. Not the greatest cod player but cod has a much smoother free aiming mechanic than gta. f*ck free aim in gta

Do you want a more "even playing field"? Oh i'm sorry, but if i'm smarter than you i'm gonna rape your ass most of the time anyways, even with AA.

It sucks that we all can't have the same intelligence, isn't it?

You guys don't realise that a good aiming isn't all to win a fight, you can still win it if you play smarter than your opponent and you don't realise that "practice makes perfect" (if you have a bit of intelligence and can learn from other player's style or from your mistakes).

Do you want the game to aim for you in PvP? Wow, you're asking for aimbot because you suck at aiming yourself. That's it, that you admit it or not.

You don't want a challenge and relax? Options: 1) singleplayer 2) multiplayer with invite only and friends 3)multiplayer with passive mode.

Leave the big boys have a challenge and don't split the community between pussies that want the game to aim for them and real players.

You call me an elitist? I don't give a f*ck, call me a piece of sh*t either or a c*nt, like if i care.

Sounds like you're trying very hard to convince yourself that you're good at something. Sad.
