Serious question, what is the appeal of assisted aim in multiplayer?

Recommended Posts

AA just got way too boring way too fast, imo.

Against real players I'm with you but against the terminators AKA enemy AI its a deathwish playing missions etc in free aim. :sui:

Question to free aim players, I take it you all use it in singleplayer too?

Yes. Wasn't that difficult imho.

I bet a lot of good aa players would do very good in fa. I played some games with McKeever in aa and I did bad most of the time. When he changed to fa and we played 1vs1 there we were kind of equal.

I don't get why people say: "I am bad with a controller, but with a mouse I can go beasting" I don't buy that.

Played some Max Payne 3 the last couple of days and that game is so much better for pvp!

I would estimate 98% of players use assisted aim. The game automatically pairs players according to assisted aim or free aim. Good luck finding a full lobby of free aim players.

Could somebody suggest a way in which they feel Rockstar could improve it?

You know my greatest fear is that Rockstar makes it easier for you, like they made the driving easier from IV to V, I don't want Rockstar to cater to the casual gamers, who aren't willing to practice, I want genuine skill to make a difference in the multiplayer aspect of future GTA's.

Any how, interesting discussion so far.

I don't know about others but I've always seen GTA as a more casual game. What Rockstar need to do with multiplayer is to find a way to balance it out so it suits the casual gamers and the competitive players. Maybe host more competitive events or lobbies which are of course free aim and maybe add other features like no re-generating health for example to make it more of a challenge.

Yeah, I beat the game in SP using FA. I felt playing against NPCs or Players with AA, I could literally go have a conversation with my room mate barely paying any attention to the screen and still get kills..:zZz:

I understand a lot of people dislike the mechanics and 'clunkiness' of FA movement/aiming compared to other games, but it is what it is and I can safely say I have more fun in FA. I don't understand the NPC issue with them using AA as you're FA.. I do just fine against AI, then again I'm not in the middle of the street trying to fight off 5 Stars on foot.. I hear people complaining about cops all the time.. I just don't get it. All in all, preference..

BAM, done.. let's go.

Call me back when the AI becomes like the ones in SP then I'll switch to full FA. I'm not even that great in Fa right now, let alone when I first started using it and was able to finish the final mission with 0 problems.

I can't speak for everyone but for me it's pretty simple, I rarely play any type of shooter on consoles so I'm far from used to playing with a controller. I don't have the interest or attention span to actually be bothered to get good at it either.

Of course, I realize the massive advantage when driving, but shooting is an entirely different case.

Hmmmmm

Locking onto Police, Randoms or teammates when in a PvP firefight!

or just trying a bit harder and aiming at your actual target with no more lock on issue.

yeah Free Aim thanks

:p

I played free aim through my play through on last gen and have yet to play the story this gen. It is clunky but what i did was try to adjust the best way i could and found I play free aim better in 3rd person view with almost max sensitivity and im good. I like auto aim though because of funny moments when things go down too fast. Both are fun and any auto aim guys who want to play free aim take your time you will get it. I didn't have to train day and night to get it. In the end guys play how you want I just want funny moments and a good time when I play online, but i can get competitive sometimes......should of seen my face in some of these free aim lobbies.....some matches were too close.

Ok I get that some might prefer to play assisted aim against the sharpshooting AI in missions and survivals, but I will never understand why players prefer it to freeaim when playing against other players. GTA to me is all about the cars and shooting, but the two cannot mix in assisted aim, vehicles are a death trap, so you either walk around the map and take cover behind objects or you end up getting easily killed if any players are that way inclined.

I know free aim is difficult, but that's what makes it appealing and rewarding to me, I like the challenge of aiming myself, why don't others?

Please I really don't want any spam or bigoted responses, saying that I'm an elitist showing off. I genuinely want to know why players want the game to aim for them!?

I've encountered morons telling me that auto aim requires skill and more skill than free-aim and AA lobbies are where the best players go to.

Normally, these arguements start off by, when I ask someone in the lobby if I accidently entered an AA lobby by mistake.

When they start spewing their incorrect statistics and opinions, my response is usually:

"Reallllyyy? You call the ability for the game code mechanism that auto locks onto the enemy for you, that is zooming by in a jet or heli and killing them on the 1st couple of hits, skill? All you have to do is press the aim button and it friggin snaps to the enemy. You wouldn't of been able to kill me in my heli or plane if you didnt have that stupid AA. Call me up when you can snipe a heli or plane pilot flying at +100 MPH in Free aim and then we'll talk!"

Then they start trying to give some ridiculous replies trying to back up their bogus, incorrect opinions on AA vs. FA.

So OP, when you ask, what is the appeal of AA in MP? I'd say the appeal is that little kiddies or guys who do not like to lose and love to take full advantage of a game's options need this AA to survive because without it, they would die, die and die some more. They're just a bunch of skilless ppl, perhaps, just a bunch of COD'ers who think they are "l33et, l33t, motherf*'ers".The ONLY exception to AA users are those who are beginners or are geninunely horrible or new at shooters/shooting. Although, I don't really see why you would want to start off with aids in the first place. AA is so unnecessary and overpowered, that any "skill" you gain from "shooting" in AA will not transfer over to shooting in FA. It's redundant as FA shooting is a whole other ball game. It's major league. You should of just picked FA in the beginning because you have as much expertise in FA after years of AA as you did with no years experience in AA.

It's a very said day when you encounter someone who thinks AA requires more skill.

I try to stay away from AA lobbies. I don't see any point either, OP.

So people always say they use Free-Aim, but the online lobbys are always empty, that makes no sense.

thats what i said.......some of these dudes be lying. I go on call for deathmatches and i see like 10 out of 30 or 4 out of 30 players ready to play, but based on peoples collection comments in different threads free aim lobbies shouldn't be this empty

Yes 20 people on a forum are lying because your jobs don't get full with 30 people.

Ps. The matchmaking system is terrible.

no not just jobs the lobbies in general

One reason why I stopped using assisted aim was because it was very easy for someone to kill you in a vehicle; land, air or sea, and that got really annoying especially when having a bounty and driving an Entity XF at high speed and getting killed.

Free aim is easy as pie on the DS3 controller but it took me a week to get used to free aim on the DS4.

I'm not that good at feee aim.

I don't have an advantage as all the same.

I don't want a challenge, I want fun.

When another player heads towards me in the car for no reason to kill me, very handy.

I mostly play in AA just because most of the friends/crew do as well. Really the only reason I guess. I agree with those that say the mechanics in this game are not the best for FA because of clunkiness, but haven't tried the new gen yet. Heard it's much better, more fluid.

PS3 and PS4 controllers respectively.

When I race and do non-violent jobs and activities, I play assisted since I find people easier in matchmaking. I rarely kill other players, so why put myself in an aiming mode if I don't play the game to kill outside of missions?? Even then, I always use a sniper rifle.

May give free aim a go, let's hope players don't blame me if I die during missions, survivals, team deathmatch.

Or in the very unlikely event I end up on my own if they die in a mission and take my my time trying to survive.

Need to practice somehow.

Well said, mister.

Same thought without my insults, i'm sorry for that.

Do you want a more "even playing field"? Oh i'm sorry, but if i'm smarter than you i'm gonna rape your ass most of the time anyways, even with AA.

It sucks that we all can't have the same intelligence, isn't it?

You guys don't realise that a good aiming isn't all to win a fight, you can still win it if you play smarter than your opponent and you don't realise that "practice makes perfect" (if you have a bit of intelligence and can learn from other player's style or from your mistakes).

Do you want the game to aim for you in PvP? Wow, you're asking for aimbot because you suck at aiming yourself. That's it, that you admit it or not.

You don't want a challenge and relax? Options: 1) singleplayer 2) multiplayer with invite only and friends 3)multiplayer with passive mode.

Leave the big boys have a challenge and don't split the community between pussies that want the game to aim for them and real players.

You call me an elitist? I don't give a f*ck, call me a piece of sh*t either or a c*nt, like if i care.

I thought the lobbies were split anyway with AA and FA? Or has that changed on the PS4/One? Edited by cjdavies
I thought the lobbies were split anyway with AA and FA?

Yeah, you're right, i was just saying that AA is unnecessary online (in PVP) and it just splits the community between AA & FA users.

Edited.

simply put, this game has a sh*tty free aim mode, it's a step back from the FA in MP3, so it's useless to play with it, it just puts you in a disadvantage, so AA is pretty much the way to go if you don't want to get slaughtered and want to fight back

I don't like challenge. I play to relax. :^:

Pretty much this. GTA is to be Rambo in heels/flip-flops, the combat system isn't good enough to play hardcore... besides, the AI is extremely op.

Right? Why is the AI so ridiculously powerful? Its kind of unbelievable how they can blind fire you over an obstacle from well around 200m away and manage to kill you.... They somehow can consistently hit you with blind fire....I don't understand.

I think if the AI were not so ridiculous, I would definitely play on free aim....but as it is, I play mostly missions and not deathmatches and therefore Auto-Aim is far less stressful when it comes to the James Bond AI that we are tasked with facing.

The AI have a beefed up version of our autoaim....they are really stupid when it comes to cover and for some reason they only fire in small bursts most of the time but they can hit us from 100s of feet away consistently when they do shoot.....And for that reason, free aim is flawed.
