Serious question, what is the appeal of assisted aim in multiplayer?

Recommended Posts

The game aims for me??!!??

Doesn't it though? Isn't that basically the purpose of an aimbot?

I didn't buy the game to have it played for me. I used to play autoaim on IV purely because I had never tried freeaim. The main appeal of it is that, well... it's just there and many never bother trying anything else.

Because free-aim with a controller is pretty awful, especially on GTA which, lets face it, was designed for assisted-aim. Anyway, assisted-aim puts you on a fairly level playing field, actually introduces quite a few new interesting tactics (rolling, using tear gas to block auto aim) and driving is no longer 'a death sentence' in assisted-aim lobbies, as you can now just duck in your car and almost completely avoid gunfire.

I never get why free-aim players have this air of superiority about them. So what? You move the thumbstick yourself to shoot at people. Wow, so 'professional'. Totes MLG. I bet you all 420 blaze-it too.

Idk but i have pretty much given up playing Free Aim because i have yet to make it into a lobby with more than 3 other people. I find it pretty gd rediculous getting insta killed out my car while zooming by someone. Its even more rediculous that they arent even looking in my direction most of time and auto aim still snaps to me. I almost find it pointless to drive around in a populated auto aim lobby. So, the way i crrently feel if im in an auto aim lobby ill be in a jet. sh*t, even in a jet the auto aim will still get you sometimes.. so you guys just want to play and relax huh? So you want to play the game but not actually play the game right? Pretty soon these games will turn inti movies because people are to lazy. "I cant be bothered to press buttons or move a joystick around, gosh!"

I play assisted aim because I play regularly play with mouse and keyboard on PC, so switching to the awful controller knobs can be quite annoying
anyway, assisted aim Is exclusively a console thing as the thumbsticks arent exactly accurate, and 99 percent of console games have AA for this reason so I dont feel bad about using it

Because this isnt cod and aiming in gta is very stiff

Precisely. Amongst other things here is also absolutely nothing natural about trying to Free-aim a gun in 3rd Person. Hence why Assisted Aim in 3rd Person (shooting) games is commonplace. If GTA had "smoother" aiming and this carried over to FPS, obviously more people would play Free-aim as this would be the more natural way to play.

This entire argument is also besides the point since on PC you can use your hand eye co-ordination and mouse to aim better than Assisted Aim, making all of this questioning meaningless.

How come the Free Aimish eschew the technology of assisted aiming but they flock to their PC's to brag about their mastery of controller technology?

Do they own cars in GTA or just ride bikes?

Ok I get that some might prefer to play assisted aim against the sharpshooting AI in missions and survivals, but I will never understand why players prefer it to freeaim when playing against other players. GTA to me is all about the cars and shooting, but the two cannot mix in assisted aim, vehicles are a death trap, so you either walk around the map and take cover behind objects or you end up getting easily killed if any players are that way inclined.

I know free aim is difficult, but that's what makes it appealing and rewarding to me, I like the challenge of aiming myself, why don't others?

Please I really don't want any spam or bigoted responses, saying that I'm an elitist showing off. I genuinely want to know why players want the game to aim for them!?

I can only speak for myself so here it goes...

I like both aim systems. I prefer assisted because its easier. When i was training to use Free Aim, i found it to be more work than it was worth. And since i have limited gaming hours, i want to have fun. Having to rely on perfect movements when facing a seasones free aimer wasnt fun. I bought the game to have fun and free aim wasnt fun. I felt like i had to train to play a video game, no thanks.

When Rockstar starts sending out checks to the Free Aim superior beings, then i might go train, but until then, i am going to play the way im getting my money's worth and i find more fun.

If Free Aim was truly as easy as its made to sound by the Free Aimers, then i have to wonder why I die at all in Free Aim deathmatches and lets not overlook the countless times the "computer aiming for my lazy a$$", aimed at an inanimate object and got me killed.

The Irony. Need a PC to type comment. Free-aim is the natural way to play on PC.

When GTAO is released for PC next month I'll switch, until then I'm auto aiming. With the control the keyboard and mouse gives me I'm on even ground with most people. With the crappy console controls I have a disadvantage due to having cut off the end of my thumb 15 years ago in an industrial accident. I hate aiming with a thumbstick. When I have my keyboard and mouse I have full control. GTAO is unfortunately only available on inferior hardware right now. Bring on the PC version

You still have to adjust your reticule and make sure you are choosing the appropriate target.

Free Aim = Hard to kill

Auto Aim = Harder to not be killed

Also, GTAV has sh*te for free-aim mechanics compared to RDR and MP3. Heck, IMO, GTAIV was better. I blame it on the complete lack of recoil + sway in GTAV, and the OP minigun / RPG spam.

Aside from this being a repeated-to-sh*t thread, it's quite hilarious...

You have the people saying that auto-aim is "easy" because it aims for you...and on the other hand, that driving in auto-aim is a "death sentence"...

...makes no sense, dudes...

Auto-aim is HARDER than free-aim, because while you are auto-aiming at someone, everyone else is also auto-aiming at YOU

This is what annoys me most, we know that they get how to do it right but even so sensitivity in GTA is trash, but this is not enough to keep me away from FA.

I wish AA had an "AIM TO" and not an "AIM AT" feature.

as in, aim and land in the general direction/location of target, but not specificially on the target.

IRL (of course, IRL example) I can aim in the general facinity of my target upon aiming almost instantly.

Free aim, I gotta turn and drag my "preset speed" all the way to my target..

AA is the only thing closer to human reaction. Just too precise once targeting is finished.

So I don't have to listen to judging asshats who prothlesize the virtues of free aim in this thread while I play in public lobbies.

If you lighlty hold R2 it will bring up the rectile(WITHOUT firing) then it's just a case of using both the sticks to get your target. I freeaim like this even when I'm on auto-aim. It's all about timing your headshots either way!

AJ, I agree with you but as so long as it's not forced as is first person people will go the easy route (one could say it's kinda like cheating) so in effect you MUST do the same. The only safe way to do this is in single player because the NPCs will react the same way regardless and adds challenge but human players will use the third person advantage not to mention auto aiming.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I don't enjoy the FPS genre. I've always enjoyed the casual chaos of GTA just the way it has been since 2001.

What confuses me is why this topic is repeatedly beat to death on this forum. There are both traditional GTA lobbies and free aim lobbies. If more people felt like the OP, there would be more players in the free aim lobbies.

op says its easy to killed in AA then says FA is harder....

There's no "appeal" you are not asked before you start gta what aim style you want, its the default setting

most people don't care to change it and why should they...if it ain't broke..

anyway I play both lobbies - this is just my two cents

I will immediately unfollow cos I don't want to get drawn into another one of these threads again for what seems to be the 5th of its kind in the last few days

people are really desperate for some new content

-------------

gta is an action crime game not a shooter...play cod bf and all that other army stuff

I have never liked freeaim for 3rd person shooters. If rockstar someday makes a FPV only free aim lobby I'll gladly switch. But besides GTA I hate 3rd person games. Just not my thing. Growing up playing GTA auto aim was always there, so anything else just feels not gta for me.

It's not a matter for skill, if need be I have "skill". Not that it matters. Gta to me like many others is just a mayhem sandbox for fun.
