Serious question, what is the appeal of assisted aim in multiplayer?

Recommended Posts

Ok I get that some might prefer to play assisted aim against the sharpshooting AI in missions and survivals, but I will never understand why players prefer it to freeaim when playing against other players. GTA to me is all about the cars and shooting, but the two cannot mix in assisted aim, vehicles are a death trap, so you either walk around the map and take cover behind objects or you end up getting easily killed if any players are that way inclined.

I know free aim is difficult, but that's what makes it appealing and rewarding to me, I like the challenge of aiming myself, why don't others?

Please I really don't want any spam or bigoted responses, saying that I'm an elitist showing off. I genuinely want to know why players want the game to aim for them!?

i will answer your question like this. In my opinion i don't think my character does not move to fluidly and the free aim part is not what bothers me though just how edgy your character seems to move sometimes. When I played watch dogs with free aim it felt good and fluid instead of rolling around I could cut left or right to avoid shots easy. When the movement becomes kinda like that I will without a doubt go to dat Free Aim. Hope you get what im saying. Plus everytime i try to join a deathmatch to test my free aim skills no body is on......it makes me wonder who really uses free aim vs the people who want to say they use free aim when they really use auto aim. This is just my opinion

because free aiming with a console controler isn't realistic and no fun in my opinion.

that's a different thing on pc with a mouse.

the controler just isn't made for free aiming shooters.

in my opinion the assisted aim on a console game is even more realisitc because in real life you don't move your pistol that slowly to the target.

irl you point your weapon automatically into the direction of the target, you just have to do the fine aiming to get it accurate.

the assisted aiming should also be more like that in gta though.

that it only locks onto the right direction of the target and you just have to do the fine tuning.

Because this isnt cod and aiming in gta is very stiff

Not for these pros. Dead in 2 shots.

Seriously ugotpoked, please stay out of this topic unless you're actually going to contribute with worth while posts and not needless slander / sarcasm and baiting posts, no one react to this troll, report and move along.

Cheers, I appreciate your input and it's good to know you have atleast tried to get some free aim experience.

I find the movement fairly smooth, the rolling is decent, it's not quite as quick as Max Payne was, but it doesn't feel clunky (third person).

You can add me, if you are on PSN and wanting more players to enjoy free aim with. Thanks for your feedback :^:

No problem AJ still working on my free aim but i seem to do okay against the NPCs. I was just a natural at watchdogs though. I had experience with free aim in older 3rd person shooters but only a little with gta

Not for these pros. Dead in 60 shots.

Fixed that :)

Back on topic. Assisted aiming in LG was terrible

I used Traditional for LG and I now use Free aim for NG (since I predominately use First person with 3rd person cover)

Auto aiming on 1st person seems so dumb, especially since the turning speed has increased compared to LG GTA

Auto aiming seems like a valid option when the turning speed is piss poor like in LG GTA (which is why I did not use free aim in Last gen), but since the aiming speed is increased, its much easier to use free aim

Because I've been used with Assisted Aim for 11 years and some free aimers (used some to not generalize) pray and spray on free aim.

But I play on free aim too. For example, there's no auto lock when you're shooting from inside a car.

I played originally in Traditional. Honestly, I changed to free aim because of complete utter boredom. Sometimes it was fun and chaotic, but not joking here, I could eat dinner, surf the net etc, and still finish a survival, that's clearly a sign for change.

Now here is the great part, I am still getting better everytime I play. I am by no means amazing at it at all. THAT IS why I like it. It has added progression and another challenge in this great game. I do understand people who want to chill though, when playing the story I like to just chill out use traditional and enjoy the flow of the game.

Other games seem to have a way better free aim sensitivity, player movement and fluidity though. GTA could improve here.

Like i said my man when we can cut like on watchdogs like a football player you know its time. Im more interested in how to make people look goofy before i kill em.....put that barry sanders on em then do em dirty. I'm sorry guys I enjoyed Watchdog's aiming and running and jumping.......:lol:

That's the way I see it.

You gradual get better with different guns and different techniques. There is a learning curve, that doesn't exist with assisted aim.

Shotgun vs Rifle, no chance in the open.

I will admit there is one pro in favour of assisted aim, it's a whole lot easier to kill players that lag.

heck yeah thats why i picked up free aim. i got all the weapons and just chillin on a day to day basis. The saying I use: Get owned now so the next game you can do the owning.(for people who aren't naturals)

Now, were you searching for an actual answer or is this just another "Why the f*ck do these filthy casuals make it so easy for themselves?"

Judging from your replies, it wasn't really one of those threads. Thank you lol

Anyway, now that there's FP, I might do free aim, since it would feel better thanks to fps'

That's also a big reason btw, doing free aim in third person is annoying.

I don't know what's the appeal because i don't use it.

I play free aim because i like shooting, for me is not a secondary part of the game. I love learning to tame each gun, correcting recoil/spread. I also spend a lot of time on the ammu nation with shooting range, choose my apartment location considering this.

I usually just follow friends so if they are in a FA or AA room its luck of the draw for me. I also tend to go camp on a sniper nest (anyplace not easily accessible) and watch people get curious and try and find me.

But then again I play after work, so im more trying to relax, talk to the wife and talk to some buddies.

everybody knows you like shooting i got that from your profile pic

I respect FA when it comes to PvP, but when it comes to missions it's a joke, I noticed that the AI in missions don't really try to shoot you right away in free aim. Even in survival, they just point at you without really firing.

I don't do Free Aim currently (I'm still on PS3) because cheaters with modded consoles take advantage of it. They pretty much killed the Disallow lobbies on GTA IV. Perhaps on the PS4 I will make my switch back to free aim.

Nice, props :^:

What's your favourite rifle in the game? Mine has to be the silenced bullpup, I think now.

Can't seem to master the advanced rifle at all.

really? the advance rifle is my go to rifle i can't figure out the bullpup.

This is why I prefer first person. I can juke and jive from behind cover with my gun shouldered. Of course taking cover is set to third person but I rarely use the cover system any more. Mostly I'll use it to peek, then back away from cover, shoulder my gun and sidestep out.

Working like a charm for me.

On a side note, first person cover from behind horizontal cover is actually really amazing. It allows you to do almost an aimed blind fire... I was really surprised at how well it works considering fps view behind vertical cover is so terrible.

mmm chocolate

Regarding free aim lobbies being empty:

you guys know you can both free-aim and auto-aim without having to change any settings right?

Holding the ADS button down halfway is free aim - and it wont lock-on until the buttton is fully pressed.

Just thought I would mention that.

People bummed theres no one in free aim lobbies, just switch back to AA lobbies

and hold your button halfway.

it is good in 1st person i agree with you but when you see it in 3rd person on a game that allows those cuts and stuff it just looks beautiful leavin people like:

Yah if you can free aim faster than the rest of the populaton auto aims, you should be landing a rover on mars not playing GTA.

I agree there is a slight hesitation with AI in free aim, but then there is the insta kill, auto lock in AA. in free aim I am trying to master pistols against AI. Really trying to get the headshot everytime.

My favorite rifle is in fact a carbine, special carbine, the one which resembles a G36C. Also love shooting with the Assault Rifle which is a Norinoco 56-2, maybe because the sound, performance-wise it's the worst of all them. The advanced rifle is really too fast, need scope and grip to stay under control. It's good against packs of enemies. I don't use scope on any gun because they're not functional, the character doesn't look through it.

The scope allows you to zoom in farther in third person. The sound of the Assault rifle is ok, but it shoots too damn slow (like every other gun in the game)

Only ~300 Rounds per minute

The Assault rifle looks hella sexy in green though

I prefer free aim because I can choose who to target myself without the hassle of automatically aiming at unnecessary targets (police/security guards) that will automatically generate attention (wanted level).

I only use assisted if crew members/freinds are in it or if I want to join races, sice race lobbies in free aim are ghost towns.

I don't think there's an appeal to assusted aim. People use it not because they don't know how to aim but because it's easier and fun. I know this because I was using assisted for a while

Actually, both free aim and assisted are fun
