[REL|SA] Low quality shadows on every Visual fx quality setting

You have to right-click on the link and press Save as.

If you just click on the link, you'll just the gibberish text.

Haha, probably MIME type problem on my server or so. Sorry about that, but I'm too lazy to fix this, just right click -> save as.

They don't show up on every surface.

Just need to change the flags in the IDE file.

 

DK once created a script for when he was working on converting IV to SA, that displayed on screen the model that the player was standing on. This script would help IMMENSELY for finding all the models that don't show the shadows.

 

Sounds like a good community project that we could all get involved in.

Yeah but wouldn't it be easier to just create a script that forces this flag on all the models? Like that one Link created for the rain light reflections.

Here you go :)

As you can see, the dynamic shadows are disabled and repleaced with static counterparts as seen in PS2 version.

With Wesser's plugin you can increase the visibility distance of them.

 

Edit:

Some people say, that this increases FPS, because dynamic shadows can slow down game on older PCs.

And they can be acually better looking than dynamic ones ;D

Yeah, this CAN improve performance as dynamic shadows for peds are quite performance hog and afaik shadows for vehicles/objects are even worse.

But forcing it on ALL models does have its downsides though. For example

(To be fair to Link, the ASI was just a test, and he was requested to force it on all models)

 

And Link has already told me he cbf making this anyway

Well that sucks, idk if it would cause such problems since they're different flags we would need to test them and see if something goes wrong (maybe we can persuade Link to do it against his will :p).

 

Your idea is not bad but honestly there's so many models that don't display those shadows, that I just can't imagine how much time it would take to fix'em all. But yeah do you still have such file that DK made?

 

EDIT: I honestly prefer to use the static(PS2) shadows over these dynamic ones, but I will be willing to help in this project, we will need a lot of people scanning the map anyways.

I try use this low shadows mod, and at first it looks funnily, especially without Carl dynamic shadow, but even that better than weird stencil shadows from high settings. Only problem is low shadows loading from short distance ( traffic shadows, for example )

Not possible. It might be a second shadow from the pointlight.

It happens at night mostly near traffic lights :S it comes and disappears

 

 

 

I know this. Before this asi mod existed, I always had been playing GTA SA on Low FX settings and I noticed that all the time.

Nothing to worry about it, this is really the same as SA on Low FX.

It's controlled by LightShd or PoleShd values on timecyc. Setting to zero will disable.

I'm not sure if this can be fixed but whatever, take a look at the shadow under the car, it disappears as soon as CJ gets out. This happens only when on top of buildings.

 

 

EDIT: Also the shadows can be seem from under bridges.

Oh, thanks god that bug is common :) I saw that too. For me it happens behind that brown church that on the crossroad to the right from the very beggining of the game.

This looks like an missing IDE flag problem to me, I just don't understand why the shadow comes back when CJ enters the car.
