ArmenianAssasin77
GTA V had a pretty okay plot it wasn't terrible nor great ,but I enjoyed it mainly because the missions were so much fun and they actually had a bit of variety to them. GTA IV has a good plot but the missions just make it hard for me to enjoy it, the missions were so tedious and boring apart from a few( 3 leaf clover, museum piece etc). Nevertheless both games are masterpieces. Lioshenka, Algonquin Assassin and AkshayKumar 2

Because V understands its owns limitations in a storytelling perspective and it embraces it instead of trying to fight against it like IV did. IV reminds of the "dumb popcorn movie who tries to take itself seriously" trope while V goes on the opposite direction (which is way more effective IMO). Yes, Michael taking drugs and hallucinating that a bunch of aliens have kidnapped him is definitely more mature than Niko vividly describing dead children he saw during one of the most destructive wars. Journey_95
GTA V is great but GTA IV has one of the best stories in gaming history. It was too dark and mature for the average GTA fan so Rockstar went back to the over the top style of the 3D era which is fine I guess. But overall GTA IV's characters have just much more depth and feel real and the plot plays out like a gritty gangster movie & shows that there are consequences to the criminal lifestyle. The other GTA games are basically power fantasies where everything works out magically, there is no real tension and the characters don't really pay for the evil sh*t they do. They also lack flaws and are too quirky. Like compare Woozie with Packie, both memorable characters who help the protagonist but there is just much more to Packie. I think it's story is second best in the series... GTA V's story is a clear step down from GTA IV but its weird how people act like the 3D Era games like SA had better stories & characters than GTA V. GTA V's tone is very similiar to them and its not like CJ has somehow depth (if anything Michael and Trevor are more fleshed out) Lioshenka and AkshayKumar 1

universetwisters
IV, though I do feel like further down the line, V’s plot will be looked at like more of an action trilogy like the fast and furious or mission impossible ones. Idk just something high energy and incomparable to stuff like IV and SA

I work with a zoomer who’s like “San Andreas? Nah that’s old sh*t” and yea it’s one example but still goes to show some folks sadly think that idk maybe it’s different because I was alive and played SA when it came out but maybe kids these days look at 15 year old games the same way I look at games like pong and vigilante 8 Edited June 9 by universetwisters The Artist
Detonario
Both stories were very interesting. But I think GTA 4 had a more emotional site, which doesn't mean that GTA 5 is bad. It might also depend on the personal history of the people who are playing these games. Both games are great and I'm excited for the future releases. Lioshenka
I would probably say V, though not by much. Overall it works better for me, and fits the location, the characters etc better. GTA 4 is better when it gets to the details or sub-plots, but overall is a mish-mash of too many things. Niko just gets involved in too many things, and it looks out of place in the RAGE universe and contradicts what his character was supposed to be. GTA 5 story works better on the bigger scale, but falls apart when looked at in details. Some parts are too long, a lot of irrelevant chapters, waaaay too much focus on special intelligence agencies work, and the number of people's names and characters is mind blowing. It's like Santa Barbara soap all over again, who the hell can keep track of who's who? AkshayKumar
