So I'm all about chaos on GTA Online. I've also become so paranoid when someone comes close to me my automatic response is to shoot them. I often get messages saying they weren't going to shoot or something along the lines of that.

For you guys, how do you identify a friendly? And how do you let people know your not going to attack?

I usually honk a million times to try and show I'm not hostile at the moment. If I get shot at still well, I destroy them.

you can't tell if they're friendly or not on the minimap, even with the mental state function, i've been shot and killed by players who where pure white, and i've been left alone by players who where bright red.

I'm just rarely the one who attacks first, that's my way of finding out what their intentions are.

If the player kills me, they're aggressive and I can deal with it how I wish at that point (either retaliate until satisfied OR passive mode it up). I don't mind being killed first if I'm not fighting back, there's no real insult there to me.

If they don't kill me, I just made a friend I can add to my list of people I can do activities with.

Me too I try to honk a million times and I try having one of my nice cars, no supers when trying to be friendly, sadly, I usually end up getting shot...

Which cars are recommended to look good?

"For you guys, how do you identify a friendly?"

1) Random player approaches in car
2) I say "Just letting you know I have a sticky bomb on my car. Will detonate both of us depending on what you do"
3) If they have a mic, they normally say "Don't blow me up, bro. I'm friendly"

4) I say "Just checking"

5) They drive past without shooting

That doesn't necessarily mean these people were friendly from the start, but I promise you no one shoots at me if I say that.

Edit - Does not apply to people with chat settings on "Friends Only" or "Friends and Crew Only"

I tell them, either via mic or message. If I have received no message from an approaching player they're gonna get shot. If they honk their honk I'll kill them two times.Seriously, why honk the horn? If they just pass me honking then fine, if they pull up next to me and just stand there honking ... wtf am I supposed to do?

I can't stand when people follow me around honking their horn. Honking it initially is fine, but repeatedly honking would be worse than trying to shoot me on sight.

Me too I try to honk a million times

Thats probably why.

Well I exaggerated I don't honk like crazy but I give like 5-10 horns and if people don't react I go away, I'm not a creepy stalker, I mainly cruise around and when I encounter other players I honk.

The only way for a random player to approach me without him,me or both of us ending up in a bodybags is sending me message.

Why doesn't more ppl do that? All u have to type is "friendly" and wait for a response!

Honking the horn just pisses me off, so expect a rocket headed your way if you honk at me more than 5 times.

Edit: just realised how douchey that sounds. don't get me wrong, I'm down to roll with pretty much anybody (only exception being chradder owners, they get shot on sight), I'm friendly, but very cautious

Trust everyone and have passive mode at the ready.

Then when passive mode glitches out and they can't kill you, run them over.

When I walk slowly up to people with no weapons out and they shoot me I just chalk it up to GTA because I know they can tell I'm friendly unless they don't reaize exactly how quick they would have been dead if I wasn't.

My chick runs into way too many friendly idiots trying to flirt with pixels. I guess u could try that, but be prepared for them to follow u around and honking their horns to try to get u ride with them to see how awesome they are with their imaginary money and hideous cars. My dude doesn't get that kind of attention, he must need to work out more. But the killers he runs into are definitely less annoying.

1. Find a white dot and kill it.

2. If they don't try to kill you back, they are ok.

3. Party time.

I've found that driving a Faggio is a pretty good way of not getting shot, for some reason. I can drive right past firefights and nobody aims towards me, it's ridiculous. Apparently joke vehicles are the way to go if you're trying for a peaceful run. Also, avoid red dots. They tend to be assholes. Which is fine considering this is GTA.

I stole some guy's faggio as he was exiting Los Santos customs. I went passive mode after killing him, and I guess he didn't know how to kick me off his vehicle through the menu.

I'm strongly skeptical of any player who approached me or if I see them enter the store with me, I usually leave and wait until they're gone. I'm generally unagressive until provoked. I hold to a live and let live attitude. Then there's those tense standoffs with other non-hostile players where you basically circle or duck in cover waiting to see who fires, then when you both dont fire you either go your own way amicably or you bromance for a session. Sure being less hostile than others has gotten me killed, but it's also made me have some fun partying with other players.

Finding someone friendly is not as hard as finding someone who won't stab you in the back, such as this:

I pull up in my Coquette Classic and honk my horn, player gets in. I start driving, a few blocks afterwards they jump out and shoot me to death with Assault Shotgun.

That has been happening quite a lot to me on NG. Bloody traitors.

Yea. In IV you'd just jump a few times or honk the horn.

Thats like the international symbol of "I'm with you cracker"

for the last 10 times people first honk to me and show they are friend, will end up shooting me in 2 mins later, so I dont give it a f*ck about honk now

I think messaging might work better now.

for me, Super car are always a sign of hustle, especially those will bullet proof butt and Adder, these are "kill on sight" to me

top tier sports are hustle somehow, but honestly, I dont see too much of them now, people just use their super now, still, KOS.

guys on bikes, especially chopper are friendly, as least for me, the logic is, you are f*cking yourself if you kill other player with a slow ass bike. same thing to muscles.

interesting is, for all the appreciation post we have here, where the f*ck are all these non-super vehicles?

I'm curious as to the color of the dot of the people who post that they can't find friendlies.

1. If they stop their car in non rushy manner

2. If they send you a message through in-game text or PSN/XLive message service

3. If they join your fray and following what you do

4. If they do Air Thrust

5. If they sound horn

But really, communicating with other people in this game is harder than giving command to a dog or a cat.

This actually does work well - Most tacky/garish supercars I see in FR are driven by hostile players. Same for anyone in pig masks and monkey/Pogo masks. 9 times out of 10 they attack you first.

I avoid red dots, and never approach other players.

Drive slowly past, and if they shoot at me, I'll engage if I feel the odds are good. Otherwise I get out of there and lead them on a sewer chase through the tunnels, see if they can keep up.

Actually, what's with the sewers? So often when being chased people don't follow you down there...

I'll get my Gauntlet or other muscles and lower tier sports if I want to look good. Otherwise I think I'll start KOS when I see those tastelessly tuned Supers.

Must be my automatic reaction due to the many reverse drive-bys...

^^^ I see a Zentorno and I automatically assume that I'm going to be killed.

I'm one of these unicornesque 'friendly players', though I don't actively go up to people and honk etc as that irritates the f*ck out of me when people do that. It used to be fine, didn't mind it so much, but I tend to find that one of these three things usually happens:

1) The Text: 'R U A REAL GIRL'

2) The Massacre: they go around killing other players for no reason whatsoever whilst I sit in the car rolling my eyes at being saddled with this prick.

3) The Rejection: I carry on my merry way and end up getting killed or run over for my insolence.

As for the over-abundance of honking... no. Please. No.

I guess I lean towards being friendly but there are days when I just have no patience for it whatsoever and instantly enter a defensive mindset when someone's nearby.

Friendly but limited patience.

It depends on their choice of horn as well tbh. If it's a stock horn you might be safe. If it's that jazz loop just start firing on them immediately. Truck and police horns are signs of unpredictable divas who get angry when you won't take a ride with them. Usually if they're over honking they deserve to die regardless.

The clown horn tends to be mostly douchebags too. :D
