Identifying a friendly online

So I'm all about chaos on GTA Online. I've also become so paranoid when someone comes close to me my automatic response is to shoot them. I often get messages saying they weren't going to shoot or something along the lines of that.

For you guys, how do you identify a friendly? And how do you let people know your not going to attack?

I usually honk a million times to try and show I'm not hostile at the moment. If I get shot at still well, I destroy them.

Doesn't matter, at least I've found. Inevitably me or the other person will "accidentally" kill the other. So usually it's shoot on site.

Usually unarmed with gestures is universal for friendly, or a coy trap.

Honking the horn is the universal friendly sign....I USUALLY don't shoot first when I come up on another player. That said, I usually also position myself defensively so that if they do whip out their gun, I can make an escape without dying. Sure, sometimes they throw a sticky or have their RPG ready but most times if you're defensive enough, they can't have it ready in time to wipe you out.

I don't typically approach people. I know they assume I'm hostile and will act accordingly. I don't shoot on sight, but I'm fully prepared to. If they pull up and do a burnout or something that's obviously meant to show that they're not a threat, then I cautiously go from there...

it depends on what kind of mood i'm in. most of the times i don't feel like killing so i'm going to drive by in my van, so how people react to it. horning offcourse, trying to find a friendly person. afther i rough day i like to clear my path before driving it. make sure that i'm not going to get shot down.

most people are quite aggresive though, so i'm allways carefull approaching people. i've had an experience that i pulled up next to a level 4, horning and hoping for him to get in. he pulled out a RPG and killed me... guess he just did a survival or something...

I tell them, either via mic or message. If I have received no message from an approaching player they're gonna get shot. If they honk their honk I'll kill them two times.

Seriously, why honk the horn? If they just pass me honking then fine, if they pull up next to me and just stand there honking ... wtf am I supposed to do?

I know where you're coming from with the honking but to be honest, if someone pulls up next to me, they can see that I'm not interested in them and they're blazing away non-stop on the horn, it can be annoying enough to warrant killing them.

Just a couple of beeps on the horn and then moving on if no interest is shown is what I'm looking for. I don't get it when people won't leave me alone, if you went to see an acquaintance and they slammed the door in your face you wouldn't bang on the door for the next hour.

i dont see it as a problem on PS4. if survivals are anything to go by, they are mostly useless tossers anyway who must be shooting themselves with the amount of times they die

This is the fundamental problem with GTA Online -- what the hell is there to do anyway? When one random player drives up to another one, the only alternatives are, (1) get in the car and drive around somewhere, (2) shoot or get shot, or (3) make a gesture. GTA0 is a beautiful, lush virtual world with no plan on how people can interact in it, other than just shooting each other. It's just a twitch shooter.

If a player has a crew and/or friend colour on their blip they are friendly. Everyone else is cannon fodder.

So true, I mean I'd much rather shoot someone than have them drive me half way around the city for like... no reason, or have them drive into their appartment so I can look at their generic supercar collection.

Kill every single player in your way and await either no resistance or a message saying 'plz let me go'.

If so, you just found yourself a pacifist playing a game about killing and sex.

Unless your in a car and honk a million times they might not shoot, but if you just walk around on foot your gonna get shot, then again if your on mic just say Im friendly lol

I used to be friendly on this game. I would be nice until someone killed then I would murder them until they leave the session. Now, I've become what I once despised: An asshole that kills everybody. My only advice to you is:

TRUST NO ONE

My policy is 0 of them are friendly. They can act all friendly and kill you after, doesn't matter what their rank is 1-1000. Why? Personal first hand experience. Applies to PS3, 360, PS4 and XB1!

Identifying a friendly is easy - just spot the person dressed as Superman, riding a unicorn!

...what's that? You've never seen them? Hmm, now that's odd...

I've found that driving a Faggio is a pretty good way of not getting shot, for some reason. I can drive right past firefights and nobody aims towards me, it's ridiculous. Apparently joke vehicles are the way to go if you're trying for a peaceful run. Also, avoid red dots. They tend to be assholes. Which is fine considering this is GTA.

keep moving in a car....a bit in front of them so they never can get a good aim

sooner or later a real hostile is gonna shoot you

if they just stick to you, step out and get in their car as soon as posible before they change their mind

also dont try to ram them or sh*t

also if they kill you, get revenge :)

i just wish players on new gen consoles would switch their headsets from "crew+friends" to everyone, at least till we all meet a new crew on new-gen. my old crew were all 360, and i've yet to hear another players voice whilst playing on ps4.

Nothing. Take a guess. I guess if they honk or, based on the map, clearly avoids red dots. Sometimes, the kind of car and clothes help.

Dunno about you, but I haven't shot or have been shot by anyone since I perfected my "gut feeling". I don't know what servers you guys get. It's probably because I am literally always a white dot.

I usually poke the player in question with a stick... And by stick I mean my carbine rifle bullets.

I typically target and try to kill the highest rank players in the lobby. I don't really like just killing lower level players, (With that being said, some level 30's are better than some level 200's). Anyways, I usually won't go out of my way to kill someone if they are near me, and not a high rank. However, if they come to close or start following me, my first response is to attack, because 90% of the time in GTA Online...

Its kill or be killed.

Well the things I normally look for in a friendly player are: a nicely modified PV, a decent gamertag, decent clothes (not a mask and a bikini with bright pink hair) and good behavior towards other players.

If a player matches none of that I will keep my distance from them. If they are all of those things I normally invite them to my apartment show to show them my garage and then we to their apartment and do the same thing afterwords we normally go bounty hunting or do some missions/racing.

Same applies for driving a Surfer.

Personal experience here, you can even make some friends with that!
