What happened to crate drops?

Im level 42 and i have yet to see ANY crate drops. what happened to them?

I've gotten a few on PS4.

 

None that where special.

 

Just Some money and XP.

 

Would be great if they put random rare items in them. Like the stun gun, fireworks, suits.

I was just in a lobby (PS4) with only 8 people in and out of the blue a special crate drop was announced!

By the time the countdown was down to a couple of minutes real time it was down to 4 people in the lobby, so I wasn't expecting it to drop.... but it did, and had these in:

 

$5000

5000RP

Minigun

Armour

[CrysisAverted]

I haven't seen any special crates but I have noticed various regular crates drop since I got it

You're not missing a lot OP, Crate Drops are rare yes, but they're useful only if there's some kind of event, where the crates carry something related to it, aside from that they contain pretty useless stuff, an example of this is the post of djdest, even a special crate is useless, unless you're low level and you are in the need of a Minigun/RPG (that's going to disappear on the next session anyway) they need a better incentive.

Forgot they even existed, I haven't seen one on the next gen platforms yet.

dont know about new gen but yesterday i saw the first crate drop notification since the radio tshirt thing back in october.

op: I concur ..havnt seen a drop for over 1 1/2 weeks..maybe 2..when gta launched it had it's flaws but crates were even dropping in invite only..

full lobbies we were getting 3 every hour back in November 2013..

I have picked up 2 since I switched to NG

they have pretty much dissappeared, now all i get now is nagged by ron about not collecting them!

how can i collect them when they rarely drop now??

and i'm on xbox 360.

They're always there.

Problem is they take forever to spawn now.

FunMw documented it awhile back.

The random events seem to only occur every 48 min or 1 In Game day now.

Armored trucks, HPV's, Lester Kill Targets all apply.

In theory would take over 3 hours real time to cycle through the set.
