Should Player blips always be visible?

  1. 1. should player blips always be visible?

    • Yes, I like it the way it is.
    • No, not at all.
    • Only if the other players allow you to see their location.
    • Limited Radar, Shooting, Running or Driving, anyone that makes noise in the vicinity of the player.

Hey!

I feel that if player blips are a major cause of griefing in online and removing them would make it less of a big deathmatch.

The way it is, you can't have a car chase where you "lose" the other player. They will always know where you are.

Currently you can't sneak up on someone that isnt in a clothing store.(why should I know someone is buying clothes if I can just go there and kill them while they are trying on shirts?)

It would make it harder for Jet griefers.

And for immersion purposes it kinda sucks that you can randomly decide to kill this person for no reason while there are a bunch of peds around that person to satisfy your psychotic need to spill blood.

Blips to me are just a big sign saying "Kill this person!" And shows their exact location at all times...

Let me know what you guys think!

this game need lobby options like in IV that allowed us to adjust stuff like blips...

the best sessions i had in IV were when the blips were set to Far. you would be able to see the blips as long as the players are far from you, the moment you get close to them or vise-verse the blip disappear, the tension goes through the roof!!!

That would be too perfect though

No. It's so easy to stalk someone and then later on blow up that person's car and the person itself. If the player blips wouldn't be visible, the game would be a lot better, specially the free roam. No more tanks, jets, helicopters or stick bomb throwers spawn killing you/stalking you, because they wouldn't know your position.

CrysisAverted

I like it cause it makes the world feel a little bigger

I don't like it because I can't tell if someone is aiming at me

I like the way it is. I wanna be able to see the locations of other players; to troll, start a pvp fight, do random stuff with them or just to know where a serious threat like a Lazer or Rhino is, even if it's 5 km away. When I wanna play on my own and don't want that others can find me, I switch to a solo or invite only session. Sure, I would like to approach others without them having to see me coming, but I don't want others to be able to do it and the other things I mentioned are more important to me than that.

Beside that, I'm f*ckin paranoid when I don't know where other players are (Lester's off-radar service).

i thought about this a while ago, and i came to one conclusion: blips are important and having no blips makes every session a dead session. turn off your radar for a while, u'll feel more lonely than in singleplayer and chances are u will never meet any other player.

In my opinion, the only player blips that should be permanently shown on the map are friends and crew members, for strangers it would work in a similar fashion to deathmatch.

no they we would join random matches with stupid setting and that would cause more empty lobbies

I would definitely like that

Even so, add a special Freemode lobby where the minimap and map are removed, you're forced to first person view and you basically have to orientate yourself around the map. Would be more immersive.

I agree blips should be removed but you should be able to pay Lester or some other contact to see a specific person if you want to go kill them. It could be staggered such as $100 will give you a rough location circle on the map for a limited amount of time, $500 will give you their exact location for 30 seconds, $1000 you could have there location for 2 mins etc etc.

Bounties should be 10k min and once set the player blip will be shown to all players until the bounty is collected or the player survives

I would like a lobby of random encounters. maybe just a flash to let you know there is someone close. It would be more intense.

And the "wtf are you doing here" element....

The nearest option in the poll id choose is limited.

All they really need to do is make stealth work in all game modes.where players press stealth and there blip completely disapears unless in your line of sight or making noise running shooting loud weapons driving etc etc.

I would also utilise lesters reveal players. With the vacinity thing so you can locate players anywhere on the map for a brief time. But maybe a large circle if a stealth player is near you so you can see there there but not precisely

If anything should change it should be the off radar time through lester. Maybe 3 minutes or so. If no other players were visible or only after a call for a limited time, servers would be dead. I like it the way it is.

Why should it be increased? The point isn't to be able to sneak spawn kill someone. If you can't achieve what you need to in 1 minute then get better.

OT I always believe in more options as long as lobbies work properly. I would never use it as I think it would be crazy boring and don't see what it would achieve but for those that want it sure, why not.

if stealth worked this wouldn't be an issue. It's a fairly limited feature that means players blips would still be visible most of the time. As theyd be running or driving flying whatever. People wouldnt be going stealth from there appartment to ammunation or anything like that it'd take forever. So thered still be tons of blips on the radar all the time

well, what if stealth and only stealth makes u dissapear and the icon changes to a "last known position" icon. (and stays static on the last known spot of course)

In my opinion blip options shouldn't be forced. There should be sessions with proximity blips, and sessions like we have now. So anybody can pick what they like. Because both ways have their pros and cons.

doesn't the next gen only show the blips for players near by and they fade out as they move away, I'm only going by what I read in another thread as I haven't moved to next gen yet...

Yes this is correct. Takes a lot of getting used to but the bigger minimap (d-pad up) still shows all blips.

The no blips / far blips ideas are nice in theory but they don't work in practice.

what???

but they did work perfectly in IV, specially blips Far... that just increase the difficulty and the element of surprise.

they could make "stealth" some more than a useless stat.

I think it would be interesting if we didn't have blips, but we had distance indicators. So when you double tapped down on the d-pad and looked at every ones name in the top corner, they would have a distance next to their names, and in the default setting you would have the three closest players in that corner.

If you paired this with a limited blips system that only showed players when they shot or being chased by the cops, then I think it would be a good mix between being able to locate other players, but not being able chase players once you've lost sight of them.

It would be tense, it would allow players to blend in with crowds, and i think it could solve the issues with the blips system.

I understand what you're saying but I think people sometimes aren't imaginative enough.

Just because GTA:O currently relies on radar blips for creating player interaction in free-roam, it didn't have to be that way.

Instead it could motivate players to come together with in-map events. Crate drops, Simeon's Import car and Bounties are on the right track, but those mini-game mechanics are crude, repetitive and, frankly, boring. Better mini-games, or even longer battles like ongoing gang vs gang wars focusing in on a particular zone of the map, or cops vs robbers mini-games - within the free roam map - would motivate players to join the action hot spots (if they wanted to) and wouldn't rely solely on the blips to attract interaction.
