Do you consider the PC: "master race" platform? If yes, why?

  1. 1. In your opinion, is PC the "master race" gaming platform?

  2. 2. Do you also play on consoles?

^ what the title says ^

I consider it Master Race gaming platform because:

>PC games always have better graphics
>PC games always run at 60 FPS (or more) compared to 30 FPS on console games
>PC games' multiplayer doesn't require users to pay a monthly fee; It's FREE
>PC games can be modified / improved by modders
>PC games have keyboard support so you can quickly type into the games
>PC games have mouse support, which is much more precise than the gamepad's thumbstick
^ In my opinion, these are the benefits of having a PC as a gaming platform ^
(I know... I'm a PC elitist. I don't care. Go and start swearing at me. PC is the best for gaming, in my opinion. The only disadvantage is that you cannot have all games on it - some games are exclusive to consoles. But I won't buy a console just to play 3-4 exclusive games, lol --- money wasted.)
What about you, guys?

I agree with you but....this forum is about the GTA V PC version...so I think that this topic has nothing to do with GTA V itself.

I think you're looking for "reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace"

Please, enough with this "master race" attitude. Superior as PC may be, this incessant bragging has done nothing but make us look pretentious beyond belief, and it's not "converting" anyone. Not to mention you're pretty much preaching to the choir, so there's nothing here to actually discuss. A console-bashing circlejerk is all I can expect out of this.

You also do know that the main thing separating consoles and PCs is differing system specs right? Just because a PC can reach 60fps doesn't mean it will. Currently, my Xbox can play more games today than my PC. Finally, you'd be lucky if you get 60fps and perfect performance since most games are sh*tty console ports.

A real gamer wouldn't waste their time arguing over which system is better. A real gamer, would, you know, actually play the games. Well said.

Well differences and reasons are so large and much but I'll name a few.

- It's a PC! you can do whatever you want beside gaming.

- Modifiable and configurable game files.

- Some really, really good PC exclusives (ARMA for example).

- powerfull hardware to your desire, cheap or expensive.

- upgradeable over the years. not being stuck with the same hardware for a decade.

- this goes without saying, higher resolutions and graphics for pc, becuz they can handle it.

- and ...

Edit: most of the above is based on you have a powerfull PC ofcourse.

I consier the PCs as the most powerfull gaming platform, or the most superior. But can't say or agree with that master race.

I play on PC, and will continue to do it there. The only console I owned was a nintendo almost 20 years ago. Since then haven't bought, and have no intention of buying any other(PS4/X1) console. I don't want to spend money for it, I don't think it is worth. But if someone gives me a console as a present, I won't say - No, Thanks. :D

No need to be a "masterrace" you can have a cheap PC and play with medium graphics too (like consoles), and still enjoy mods and all.

The reason why I love PC would be because you can connect any controller(s) to it and it will work. Games are moddable, hence more fun. Steam gives you games at a really, really low cost.

Only drawback is that games get released for console earlier than the PC version.

no need to choose one side

i love playing games on pc and yes pc more powerful but for publishers important thing is sale numbers and pc is very behind. so if you are talking about graphics yes pc master race but for publishers consoles lead the way

I love playing on PC since the early 1990's.

It's more confortable for me. On consoles, I feel like I don't have 100% control on the games. Mostly because of the early days, when I manipulated files to make games works, or finding cheats myself. That was golden days for me.

Using codes on MS DOS system, editing autoexec and config.sys files, learning how a PC works. I'm nostalgic of that time. I could go back and choose a 386 PC instead of my sh*ty IBM 286. But I didn't know anything about computers. I was so pissed not being able to run Alone In The Dark. XD "not enough memory" ? What are you saying to me? I deleted nearly everything, what do you want? XD Oh... f*ck, that memory... XD

And of course, playing with keyboard and mouse is great on most games I like.

Sitting on a chair, not on a couch. I mean, I can't play games like I watch movies. I'm always tense when I play.

Maybe on steam. I can't use my 360 controller on my cd version of San Andreas.

I feel PC gamming is better because you can do much more with a game, either mods, free online, dedicated servers etc etc, consoles are to restrictive, the only thing they got going for them is exclusives.

the hole master race thing is fun teasing, like when you get with your friends to watch sports and rat on their teams.

The master race platform plays the master race MMO

And I've never seen Eve Online for Xbox or SNES or whatever you kids play

I've never actually understood the 'master race' mentality myself. While it is fun to play the big man and brag about beefy PC's, it makes you look like a douche to console players not yet enlightened by Steam's warm glow. I view it as an 'evolution of gaming process'- i started out on the PS1 and PS2 back in the day, moved on to the 360 (dark days indeed) and then PS3, before finally biting the bullet and making my own PC, and have never looked back.

The main problem I have with consoles is that they're so 'closed source', and feel like the IOS of gaming. Before, I could only download games from the inexcusably austere PSN store, whereas now i can buy games on the cheap from a limitless source of online stores, and when hardware gets outdated just pop the new model GPU or some more RAM in whenever its needed.

It does everything better, that's pretty much all you need to know.

The map doesn't have the same scale and LOD as GTA V and the difference in draw distance(for objects and lighting) is huge.It will be the same with V.Can't wait for the definitive version.

Not really. PC=\= just for gaming so its not a "gaming master race". However consoles are built for gaming so the Xbone and PS4 can fight for it. The PC, however, can be called God Species. It can do what consoles can, as well as what consoles can't

I love my PC, I love gaming on it, I also love doing a lot of other things on it such as multimedia production, communication, recreational media consumption, etc. But I never considered myself a part of the "Mastur Reice" or anything. That attitude has never been about anything positive, but always about mindlessly bashing anything that's not some tricked out $12,000 machine of devastation in a pathetic attempt to appear superior to others via some silly social caste system that a bunch of neckbeards developed some day. The last time I was a fanboy of anything related to this stuff was back in the early PS3 days, and that even wore off as I got older and wiser (and generally less silly, though I am a goofball anyway lol...)

I just consider myself a gamer. Don't care what platform it is, if I see something is fun, I'll try to play it, even if I have to emulate it on my PC. I don't arbitrarily limit myself due to some false sense of superiority, especially not one derived from being a sheep and following those losers at Reddit (a place no better than 4chan, just another cesspit of the internet, really.)

As for that image posted above, I have a few counter-points (as it is just a silly propaganda image, lol.)

*The whole "build an equivalent PC for the same price as a console and get better performance" thing is a myth. Seeing as how both consoles basically cost $400 now, there's literally no way you can build a decent machine *FROM SCRATCH* including the OS (Windows, Linux is not suitable for gaming no matter what anyone tells you) and a monitor, as well as a keyboard & mouse and have it be superior to either the PS4 or the X1. Yes, you can cheap out and get a really cheap keyboard & mouse combo, and you can say that "including the monitor isn't fair because they can use their TV", which is somewhat valid, but not everyone wants to do that. But even then, excluding the cost of the monitor, they still need to get Windoze, which will add about $90~$100+ to the overall build price. I could pick out a build using a low-end MOBO, a cheap processor, cheap everything (because people who use this argument always skimp out heavily on these parts in some shape or fashion) and then wind up blowing the budget ($400) before the rig would even be usable.

*Consoles don't "struggle" to keep up because they were never meant to compete with PC in the first place. A console is a closed-spec special-purpose box where you're locked into an environment that the manufacturers want you to be in, but in exchange you get ease-of-use and a simplistic streamlined environment. Sony and MS could've made their consoles a lot stronger, but all that would've done is jacked up the prices to make the consoles completely unattractive for their target audiences. Remember how much of a fuss everyone threw when Sony announced the PS3's price point back at E3 2006 ($599 USD for the top-end model)? And that wasn't even because of the CPU or the GPU, no, it was because of the Blu-Ray Disc Drive it contained, which ironically was among the cheapest and highest quality BD drives you could get even when it came out (other basic standalone BD drives costed $1,000 and up at the time.) PC elitists always bash consoles because a rig having an i7 with two enthusiast-tier GPU's in Crossfire will sh*t on it... Well no f*cking sh*t it will, that's the whole point. With PC, you pay for high performance... That's not what a console is or ever was about.

*Cheaper gaming is a joke as well. I routinely see just as many sales on the PlayStation Network as I do on Steam, Origin, GoG.com, Amazon, etc. You can find disc copies of PS3 and PS4 games for hella cheap just as you can PC games. This whole "PC games are cheep hurr durr" nonsense is an uninformed double-standard based off willful ignorance. The origin of this misnomer is the fact that lots of people will pointlessly binge-buy lots of cheap indie games and random games they'll never play on Steam any time a big sale happens, and then brag about how cheap PC gaming is (but then turn around and complain about how devs never support PC or whatever, etc.)

*PS3 users have been enjoying free online play ever since 2006, but yeah, having to pay to play online on the 360, X1, and PS4 is lame. Another reason why it will be quite some time before I even bother getting a PS4.

*Mod support is always great, but the fact is that 95% of mods are always poorly-thought out, glitchy, untested, terrible trash for almost every game out there. I've been suffering through horrible mods for about a decade now, and it hasn't gotten any worse. It's to be expected though, you give people mod tools and most people who use them will create things which should've never gotten past the "thought" stage. The other 5% of mods are the actual good ones that wind up being well-known throughout the community because everyone who has messed with mods in said community ignores everything else because it's trash. And then a lot of mods that did look like they were gonna be good end up getting canned because the guys working on it lost the passion they had or whatever, etc. (seen this too many times...)

Basically, being an elitist about PC, or whatever console of your choice is just stupid. When I come across a console-only user who doesn't know much about PC's but is interested in them, I don't send them propaganda or belittle them for playing on a console, I offer them help and advice. That's how you "convert" people to PC, you don't do it by being some uptight douchemaster supreme about it. Just my two cents.

PC:

-games on release are cheaper

-fans can make patches and mods, no matter how old the game you can always play it, even in 1080p without "HD edition" bullsh*t for money on re-release

-current console generation is already failing to catch up to PC power

-you don't need to pay to gain acess to online features

-current "consoles" are PCs, only Wii U and PS Vita are consoles, PS4 and X1 are almost ITX computers with closed software suited to be placed in living room by the TV

By 2018 people will must to buy new gen consoles when I will probably just buy new card and just forget about it. Or maybe I will change both CPU and GPU and OC them to have even more time before upgrade. My old PC was rather weak and it was used for about 7 years so with this one I have now I can stick for over 10 years without upgrades.

The master race is more like the a**hole race.

It promotes the picture of "a PC is so horribly expensive".

That is why many console people never realize it is actually more resonable to go with PC, they just see a $10000 Nasa PC that needs to be upgraded every year.

Uncle Sikee Atric

My kids have a 360, while the last console I owned was an Atari 2600....

The reason I don't play consoles is because I hate the controllers! I have always used keyboard and mouse, plus a joystick when I was a kid. I'm a tall person and have large fingers, so the controller buttons and triggers are too close together and very clumbersome for me.

However, this never stopped me acknowledging the consoles. Nor does it make me think there is a 'master race'.... I hate that term! Game development, consoles and PC's go together hand in hand. Just because a title is exculsive to one

console, it doesn't mean a PC and a console dev kit hasn't been used to code it!

I'm sorry, but the egos apparent in this thread just makes me upset. The PC is a gaming system as much as the consoles, but to make us appear better than the consoles is a gross mistake!

This thread should be closed and deleted! The last time the potential for hate and the re-ignition of the platform wars arose was, ironically : The do / don't make a PC version of GTA V petitions....

People that play on ALL platforms are the gaming master race. How can you be the master race if you limit yourself to one platform? There's nothing masterful about that.

I play on PS4, PS3, 360, Wii, PC. I'm tempted to get a Wii U and Xbone just for the sake of having everything, but there's not much on either that's exclusive and appealing to me.

My PC is powerful enough to run a very heavily modded Skyrim at full specs, but it's not my platform of choice. It's certainly more powerful than all of my consoles, but I don't like the isolation it encourages. I live with my GF, she likes to watch me gaming, and likes to game herself, so the consoles are the top choice.

No. PC is not master race, and will never be. Yes PC have better graphics, and the fact that they're so flexible. But it got its drawbacks. Postponed release dates, hassle of building, etc.

Also, not everyone wants a huge case behind their TV's, consoles are small and blends easily. Build a PC equivalent to PS4, I'd bet it'll be larger than a X1.
