The only thing I really like over GTA Vs online than 4s, is you can loose the cops easier you don't have to go to a paint-n-spray.

You don't need Pay & Spray to lose the cops in GTA IV either. However the option's still there unlike GTA V.

I hate GTA:Online. Why? Because you can't just sit back, relax and f*ck around in a random session or f*ck around with your friends without conflicts.

  • You always have to worry about money
  • You always have to worry about cops
  • You can't choose to turn off traffic
  • You get penalized for blowing up vehicles

It's just not fun. I liked IV's multiplayer because it was simple. Yeah, we couldn't save cars or anything like that but did I care? No. If I wanted to do any of that, I'd play single player. And the idea of doing jobs, and heists whenever they come, with friends sounds cool but in actuality it's very anticlimactic, choppy, and annoying and definitely not worth the small payout (20K which will get you a bloody horn or pink paint job). I like a simple multiplayer, one where I can do anything. I felt so limited in GTA:Online but whenever I play IV's multiplayer I feel so unlimited.

For me, I don't really want to bother about getting into what one has or doesn't have over the other.

So for me, this is what it ALL boils down to. The bloody player tags and blips. Anyone else miss the colored names like I do? GTA:O just has plain white icons where as IV Multiplayer has all these different colors and it made the mini-map less boring to look at. Amirite?

I may be in the minority here, but I think GTA Online is WAY better than IV's multiplayer. IV's was pretty limited to be fair, the missions were fun, but they weren't many of them, there were only 10 levels and I enjoy progression, so that's a let down IMO. GTA Online's progression isn't perfect either though but at least it's more long-lasting, just a shame hitting 120 is pretty much the end of the line and them making it so high.

I know some may disagree, but I enjoy the money aspect of GTA Online, earning my own cars, being able to customize and store those cars, LSC is one of the best things in Online. Not to mention the amount of content GTAO has in comparison, LTS, DM, Races, All those missions, Creator, Robbing Stores etc. I mean clearly GTAO wins here. GTA IV was fun, and I enjoyed both, but when you break down both and look at them overall, GTAO has a lot more to offer, and whilst it's no where near perfect, it's kept my interest a lot longer than IV did.

I honestly think if they just added a Classic section to GTA Online, that would be perfect. This includes Classic Freemode with no money worries etc. Returning modes from IV such as Cops and Crooks, Turf War etc. They could even make a little update out of it with returning cars considering GTAO didn't bring a lot of great modes back that IV had.

That would most certainly help.

I liked IV's multiplayer in the sense that you weren't punished for killing other players and it wasn't fueled by cash cards and chrome adders. Is it less structured? Of course, but that's what made it wonderful.

Please explain to me how exactly GTA Online is fueled by Cash Cards. Please, in some sort of theorem, explain it. It's not pay to win, it's optional and doesn't hurt anything.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS:

I dont think its fueled by cash cards, but it's obviously fueled by money. The problem is, money is extremely easy to spend or flat out lose than it is to make. It makes grinding missions the only way to fairly make money at a moderate pace. All the free mode activities are useless when it comes to money making. Grinding obviously isn't fun, so some would rather glitch in money. Glitching isn't allowed and it may get you banned or your money reset or some other punishment. This makes most people just buy a cash card, usually the $20 one which most my friends bought at least once. The cash cards are pretty overpriced, too. $100 dollars for only 8,000,000 in-game cash? What kinda of BS is that?

I play DMs, LTSes, races, and captures all the time, and I end up with a well-balanced amount of cash in my bank account without having to suffer from grinding and gives myself tons of variety instead of the "shoot guy, grab case, go to destination" way of making money, it's a much more stable and fun way of making cash, and I find myself with 300,000 dollars within a few weeks or so. Keep in mind not everyone subjects themselves to grinding if they want to earn money the legitimate way, seems to only be the free-roamers who under-estimate the payouts of various jobs and only play there rooftop rumbles and coveted, despite the 1.17 mission payout debunking them to average payouts. The online community has played them so much they've brainwashed themselves that they're still the highest paying jobs, first it was funny and laughable, now it's, well, still laughable, but now stepping between the border of insane grinding and tony hawk level grinding.

It doesn't take much effort to make money in Online though? Just jump between several game modes to keep yourself entertained if you don't want to grind missions.

For me it's close. I love the leveling-up system on GTA Online. It felt less boring than those pure freedom MP. On the other end, I loved IV Online simplicity, and how flexible it is.

My verdict goes to GTA Online.

Gunplay in Online is kinda annoying to me. Guns killing in 2 shots, everyone taking cover (which is smart, just boring) and the bulletproof helmets really put me off. Racing is fun with friends, but playing with random people is boring, in my opinion. Captures might be fun, but not many people play it, so i've personally never was able to have a good capture game. That's my view on all that, i'm sure there are many others who disagree.

But yes, you are right. If you play a variety of modes, you do end up with a good amount of cash. Still, most people (certainly not all) would rather grind high paying contact missions or glitch to get ahead.

It doesn't take much effort to make money in Online though? Just jump between several game modes to keep yourself entertained if you don't want to grind missions.

You're right, too, but (as said above) most would rather grind or glitch. Although i don't really like the gunplay, i do sometimes play a deathmatches or an LTS when i get bored of playing random contact jobs.

GTAIV & TBOGT Free Mode were a blast to play for the first couple of years before the modders took over. There was so much variety that made every session different.

Why couldn't GTAO have added a "Classic" Free Mode where rank and money and properties don't matter. They could make it a timed session so players can't stay in it forever.

Reason why R* haven't done it is because nobody would play the normal one with money and properties.

But some people still prefer this new system, so it wouldn't be nobody.

It would just split the playerbase the same way Free Aim and Auto Aim did.

I never plated either, but as a spectator, I found those "BUSTED!" videos by GTAMissions, et al to be more exhilarating in IV's multiplayer than V's Online mode.

Well welcome to gaming. You can't just sit around in freemode all day any more, there's a lot more to do now. Besides doesn't it get boring just hanging out in a freeroaming session?

GTA:O has a very different concept than GTA IV multiplayer. GTA:O is like a world itself. Yes, it feels like SIMS, but comprises of different structured and unstructured activities. GTA IV MP was based on different modes like Team Deathmatches, Races, Free Roaming and all, and wasn't as advanced as GTA:O. So comparing both would't be fair, but indeed IV MP had it's own charm.

IV MP for me, as it was simply more fun and laid back. Nobody was asking you for constant grinding or buying cash and you didn't have to pay for things that should be free in the first place (paying for ammunition for DM?). We (me and people I'd played with) have much more fun in cool events (Doc's Racing League and Turf Wars), and in Free Mode than in O.

It's down for personal preferences. It is ironic that while in singleplayer, I tend to prefer more structured gameplay lately, in multiplayer I miss "barebones" philosophy of old. That applies to Online too. I just miss times when there was no grinding, no loadouts, no unlockables, no challenges to distract you from the fun. I never really bothered with Online for that reason and neither with RDR's MP.

But I have to admit that Online might be much more appealing to me as a fully-constructed MMO it might be one day. Right now, it's this half-beast between MMO and classic GTA free mode. Too structured for an entertaining, carefree multiplayer fun, but not complex enough to be a true MMO. There are MTA SA roleplay servers much better constructed and more complex than Online.

So yeah, Online might be interesting. One day. Maybe.

The Sims on crack

You say it like it's a bad thing though ;)

I prefer to think of it as the Sims meets Need for Speed whilst being bullied by COD

A few of things that make GTA O better than IVs multiplayer

- The sheer scale of contact missions alone just dwarfs IVs co op game in both quantity and quality

- Rockstar have some investment in the game so they have systems in place to deal with griefers, hackers, abusers and mouth breathers

- Customization - in characters, cars, vehicles, even weapons

- Variety in vehicles - bicycles, planes, submarines, Cargo Bobs etc

- Progression - rewards, unlockables, achievements

- Snapmatic

- Off-Roading areas/ rural areas, better stunt jumps

A lot of the criticism from the IV fanboys usually amounts to the same things; not wanting to work for stuff (laziness) selective memory nostalgia junkies (hipsters) complaints about the game being too hard (pathetic) or complains about it's impact on single player (fair enough)

All in all I agree with the OP, even with it's blatant money grabbing and technical flaws, GTA O is just better. You could argue that IV was made in a different era so we should judge them differently, then it just becomes pointless and impossible to even compare the two. Maybe it is? For the sake of discussion I think GTA O is obviously better.

to add to that gta 4 multiplayer is ugly. i played it some months back. yeah there were some people there but there was nothing to do but shoot each other. screw that i don't see the appeal at all. i like the story mode but muliplayer. foh with that. you gta 4 fanboys are in denial. you want to see cops and crooks and vigilante missions without an under standing that gta v is a completely different game just like the 4 series was different compared to the gta 3 series. gta v has enough interiors stop beating that dead horse.

Totally GTA Online. There's nothing to do in GTA IV's multiplayer. It's full of hackers, who freeze you when you don't treat them like gods. GTA V has the better online feature.t

thats more like gta online then GTA IV mulitplayer...

I'd believe a complete retard, like you if I didn't own both games.

GTA IV multiplayer. It felt less like The Sims on crack and more like a traditional GTA except with other people. I remember when GTA IV was new I spent hours upon hours messing around in LC with my mates. Just plain old fashioned fun..

It also functioned from day one unlike GTAO. I was really looking forward to GTAO, but when I actually got to play it when it worked it left a bitter taste in my mouth. The only thing I like about it is the increased vehicle storage which should be in single player any way,

this. Plus you could change your character without restarting the rank-(the star next to your name). I also like it because the deathmatches were simple but fun none of that extra B.S. I also don't stay in clouds between matches either. I love the feeling to play a game to beast and feast....no ownership to anything= no bad sport lobbies either.

Idk when i play gta online I love the survival and the death matches are ok, but I hate they show us this great character creator and we only get to use it once thats why i always start my 2nd character over to play with the options because restarting my 1st is not an option for me spent too much time. I also liked cops and crooks, the N.O.O.S.E coop mission. Just imagine gta 4 being on the next gen version with the gta online character creator but you could change the appearance anytime like gta 4.

SAMP has no predefined static mode, so it wouldn't be a contest. :p
