SkyGfx: PS2, Xbox and Mobile graphics for PC

The Hero

Full thing goes: GTA SA on PC, unlike PS2, uses dynamic shadows, so in order to restore PS2 look, SkyGFX disables HQ shadows, but it seems that during cutscenes the dynamic shadows are still used.

Even on PS2 there seems to be a bug where only CJ has a static shadow texture during cutscenes:

I totally agree, that dynamic shadows of some trees, objects, buildings are very ugly, and they negatively affect performance, but what about CJ, peds, cars shadows ? They looks almost fine. And in cutscenes this shadows looks not bad. On the other hand, I know that The Hero tries to be maximum close to PS2 version, so I will not blame him for possible "SA without any dynamic shadows".

I don't think I'll change the shadows in near future. I don't mind the dynamic shadows in cutscenes much, sorry.

This light effect (texture?), can someone check on PS2 if it's any smoother? I tried some videos, and it does seem smoother, but I don't know, can be youtube compression or something

Definitely a DXT compression problem. What a surprise...

Fixed it.

Different compression for that texture only + remade the texture:

Change Visual FX Quality to Medium.

Yeah I guess that's one way to do it, still mine has better quality

Anyways there are a lot more broken gradient textures in the game, I will try to fix them.

So I removed all seperate asi files and installed skygfx. But the hotkeys seems to be not working except the grass loading key.

I haven't changed the hotkeys. And does skygfx has the feature to switch between different postfx? If yes, it is also not working.

And the vehicle reflections seems to be using a different reflection textre than ps2refs.asi used.

Yes, you can switch between different postfx, you start the game, modify the ini (so change postfx in your case), reload it with F11, then you can switch between the first and second ini with F10. vehicle reflections use the same texture as in ps2refl. The effect shouldn't really be different.

Hm, I will look into that later, I'm very sure the hotkeys aren't working on my side. Also check your PMs please. :)

Does the skygfx also have the feature to switch between different reflections like ps2refl.asi had?

I'm still figuring out why the hotkeys aren't working.

Hey Hero, I found a little differences on the grass of the PS2 version back in 2013, I think now is fixable with your ASI (probably...).

Here is, that kind of plant, in PC is not present in whole Flint County only in a few places (almost nothing) while in PS2 is in a lot of places around (I don't know if is present in other places of the map, e.g. Red County, etc.). And that rocks (blue circle) is not present on PC while in PS2 is in a lot of places again, also they are destroyable with a vehicle (e.g. Monster truck). Can you take a look into this?.

Hm...maybe another broken rand() again? ...

Little update. I think these kind of plants is present on the whole map, I saw them in Venturas too. I hope this thing is fixable.

Just wanted to come in and say The Hero you are a... hard to avoid this, hero for getting the PS2 San Andreas post-processing effects and the like in the PC version. Been following this since you initially started this and it has come a long way, and nearly perfect at this point after spending a lot of time in the PS2 version. Many will disagree but with this, SilentPatch, and other PS2 related fixes the PC port is in my opinion, the best way to play San Andreas at this point in time. The PS2 atmosphere combined with the PC's shadowing just makes for a really nice looking game.

Ok, whoever has problems with hotkeys now. If anyone of you has time, add me on skype or so and we'll debug this together. I do remember having problems myself some time ago, but I don't remember any details...right now it's working for me but that may be a coincidence.

I'm sorry if I'm annoying you with my Steam requestes. Remember when I said that I use Steam version of GTA 3 and the patch doesn't work? You sent me another one that worked on Steam version. I recently downloaded the new update of the patch but it doesn't work on Steam either... :(

Indeed. The version I gave you was made by Sergeanur but done after I had already started rewriting much of the code so the new version does not have steam support yet. Sergeanur said he wanted to add steam support again but I don't know when he'll do it, I'm sorry for that. Why don't you use a regular exe instead?

I tried a regular nocd 1.1 exe and it worked just fine. But the ThirteenAG's widescreen fix (which is something that I can't play the game without) doesn't work on 1.1 retail version and that's something I really don't like.

Will you make a update log because the mod gets updated nearly every day, and it's nice to know what's changed.

Yeah, thought about making a list of fixes...I always see what I did in the code but it would be informative for other people :p

And you don't use 1.0 because?

Yeah use 1.0 with silent patch. Every bugfix from 1.1 should be converted to 1.0 with silent patch

I prefer 1.1 too. Mainly because some adding cars scripts are made for it. I would switch to 1.0 if the devs would make them compatible with that .exe, but for now I have to stick to 1.1.

After a chat with SilverRST today I've redone the ini-system for SA. You can now have multiple configurations (skygfx1-9.ini) that are loaded when the game starts. You can cycle through them with F10 and reload them all with F11. If skygfx1.ini isn't found, it falls back to skygfx.ini.

Otherwise there aren't any changes really (ped paths and car spawns have the fixed rand() now though).
